omg! Uncle Gus, Star of the Day, Rex Trailer and Howdy Dodee. Not sure on that spelling but what great memories. I was on Uncle Gus also, I think it was with the girls scouts because I never was a brownie, or perhaps it was just my class that was on, it's kind of a blurr. I have to jog my sisters brain, she remembers everything.

Community Auditions! I knew 'star of the day' was close but not quite right. 'Star of the day' was the first line of its theme song:

Star of the day,
Who will it be?
Your vote may hold the key.
It's up to you,
Tell us who
Will be star of the day!

Hear the tune now? Yup, that's right! Now we're all waking up tomorrow with this song running through our heads!

Donna - Ron just told me the final score of the game. I promise I didn't watch! I only happened to notice they were up by 10 points when I went into the living room to tell Isaac it was bedtime, but I promise I witnessed no plays! I didn't even see who possessed the ball!

Hmmmm... I wonder... Perhaps this means, since this loss wasn't my fault, that this curse on me has broken, and I can start watching the game again!...

But I guess this also means Rob will sleep soundly in London tonight... for now...

This was our version..I think Melissa came up with it but not sure...

Star of the day,
Who will it be?
You know it should be me.
You must confess,
I am the best
I should be star of the day!

11/16/09 10:32 AM #1622

Mary Schunemann (Felton)

Glenn is star of the day!

Joan Whitcomb (Pledger)

O.K. who is John Doe?And Glenn really star of the day.And I remember being on Uncle Gus show, he would throw the frisbes so know one could not catch them.
Ane Ev I can not believe you remember that song.

Robert Ferendo

Glenn...What do you mean, "painful game"....Peyton Manning did exactly what he was supposed to do...And I might add, Donna, my prediction was correct! Albeit in the last 20 seconds!

And I will be in UK for dinner with Joni the first week of December...see you soon, Joni...

Go Colts!

11/16/09 11:36 AM #1625

Are the website gods tinkering with the site, or has John Doe infiltrated?

Hey... John Doe... Quick! Who taught Earth Science at Memorial our Freshman year? ...

11/16/09 02:27 PM #1628

Donna Keenan (Grady)

OK Rob you got lucky with the Pat's gamble, but I still stand by my prediction the Colts will no go undefeated and they will not win the SB!

Linda Lemay (Wojceshonek)

I remembered the star of the day song. I also remember the zoom song with the zip code and all. But don't ask me what I had for dinner yesterday. Amazing how the brain works.

As for John Doe, I do believe someone is too Chicken to admit they love this site as much as us.

I'm disappointed with the Pats. They are usually the ones to pull off a win in the last few seconds.

Well you all were quite busy on this sight last night weren't you!! Well I was out seeing the most amazing special effects/light show I have ever seen. If you haven't already gone to see them I highly advise going to see "Transiberian Orchestra"!! After leaving the show my friend, Stephen was hungry so we went to "Strange Brew" for a drink and he ate and we saw some great blues bands but the game was also on so unfortunately we also saw the ending of that too!!! Just like the SB 2 yrs. ago!! Unbelievable!!! Rob, sorry buddy but "Peyton Manning" is no "Tom Brady"!! LOL

I also was on the Uncle Gus show with the brownies! I remember "Zoom", "Boomtown", "Star of the Day" etc. too!! Does anyone remember the "Dobie Gillis" show? I don't but apparently it was on in the late 60's early 70's. My friend Stephen brought that up last night as I was watching my other friend's dog named "Dobie" who was named after "Dobie Gillis." I vaguely remember something about it but truly couldn't tell you what it was about or any of the characters in it!!

Linda Lemay (Wojceshonek)

Pam, I do remember Dobie Gilles. He was played by Bob Denver (Gilligan from Gilligan's Island). He played a beatnik . Although I remember the show from Nick at Night more than from when I was a kid.

Glad you had a good time at the show. I've never seen them. Speaking of old t.v. I recently heard that Seaseme Street is 40 years old. I was suprised to hear it's been around that long.

I think John Doe should post a picture of himself.
Also my sister reminded me with laughter in her voice that I lost so quickly on the Simon says game when I was on the Uncle Gus show.
Well at least I made it on the show , right?
What funny memories we all have. Great to share them.

Where's Jane Doe? Fair is fair! (Oh, this is going to be so much fun!)

11/16/09 08:35 PM #1634

Evelyn Gratton (Pepin)

Actually, 'The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis' was a show from the late 50s/early 60s, with Dwayne Hickman as Dobie, but yes, Bob Denver played the beatnik, Maynard G. Krebs. The show opened with a shot of the sculpture of Rodin's 'The Thinker'. We were infants when this show first ran, but it was a favorite of my older sisters & brother, which is how I know about it. They'd quote from it all the time. And later, it did run for awhile on cable.

Evelyn, you are a wealth of knoledge.

11/17/09 05:44 AM #1636

Linda Lemay (Wojceshonek)

Ah yes Ev. You are right. Now I remember. Thanks for the help. T.v. just isn't the same. 500 channels and nothing is on. As a teen ager ours was one of the first houses on the block with a clicker. It literally clicked to change the channel. lol

11/17/09 11:03 AM #1637

Evelyn Gratton (Pepin)

LOL, Linda! And we were the last! It took forever for us to even get a UHF antenna on the roof! A clicker was the holy grail! Eventually, I got to enjoy Channel 56, Channel 38, and if it was overcast and I stood in the right place in the room, Channel 27! I was out of high school before my Dad sprung for cable. But I remember when my friend's dad put up a new-fangled antenna, it had a gizmo with a dial that sat on top of the TV. When you fine-tuned the channel by turning the dial, the antenna spun. We'd take turns, one of us spinning the dial while the other ran outside to watch the antenna spin. Forget the TV! We were fascinated by the gadgets! Like a baby who is more delighted by the box than the toy that was inside it!

Joni, I'm amazed myself at what trivial and useless knowledge that rises to the surface of my brain. Too bad I can't just as readily recall what I did a few days ago! :)

I've been thinking about the Uncle Gus show since it came up here. Remember the toys that were promoted on the show? I had a set of those tubes with the marbles that you raced with a friend to shake all the marbles to the bottom. And those Clackers, I think they were called: two balls on strings attached to a handle that when you got into the right rhythm, the balls swung to hit above and below. They, of course, disappeared from the market almost immediately when reports of injuries came rolling in!

It's too bad the Uncle Gus shows don't exist anymore. I'm sure it made sense at the time to tape over them but what a shame they weren't kept to share with future generations. Romper Room went the same way. The only bits of these shows that are left are on personal home movies and photos taken by the parents of the kids that appeared on the show. There's nothing like these shows today.

Linda Lemay (Wojceshonek)

OMG Romper Room. I remember being so excited every time Miss Jean would say "Hi to Linda" in the magic mirror. I thought she really saw me. I used to drink Choc. Milk when they did. I owned a pair of romper stompers. he he he .

We didn't have cable until I moved out and got it myself. My mom refused to pay for tv just to have 2 additional channels. My friend next door had it and we would go to her house after school to watch Speed Racer and Kimba the White Lion.

Where are all these memories coming from?

11/17/09 04:52 PM #1639

Evelyn Gratton (Pepin)

"Bend and stretch, reach for the stars. There goes Jupiter, here comes Mars..."

Miss Jean never said "Hi to Evelyn". :-( I waited and waited. :::sigh::: Curses that magic mirror!

Linda Lemay (Wojceshonek)

Now i'm remember that song too. Sorry she never saw you.
As I kid I never realized how many Linda's there were.

"Magic mirror tell me today did all my friends have fun at play?" Wow now we are really going back into our early childhoods!! My parents didn't get cable until I was well into high school!!

Ev what I remember the most about your house is all the parties we had when your Dad was out and the disco light room!! It was right off the kitchen. Boy, did we have some fun times there!! It was right around the time "Saturday Night Fever" came out and we would listen and attempt to dance like they did in the movie!!! Too funny! I know I did a lot of "making out" with Larry on the couch in that room too!! LOL

When I think about the partying I was doing at 16 y.o. compared to my Emily, I am glad she is not partying like I did. There are benefits to her having a boyfriend a year younger than her who goes to Memorial and neither one of them have their driver's licenses yet!! Manchester to Goffstown is a good distance I think!!! I am going to enjoy it while it lasts as I know my days are numbered with that.
