Pam, I can't think of our kids parting today like we use to. Thank God we grew up to be responsible adults to teach our kids right from wrong. How does that saying go? Do as I say not as I do?

As long as I got everyone out by the time Dad got home, I was good. If not for my Dad's social life, I wonder if I would have had one! I also recall, though, the parties at my house continued while I was on the Germany trip! I wasn't terribly popular in high school, but apparently my house was...

Ev, MY house was populer in school. My MOm worked waitressing at the Derryfeild . So I had a few parties. I remember having to walk the street picking up beer bottles.I must of been pretty brave or could have cared less that the superintendent of schools lived across the street from me.How ever his son Mike would be at my house, so I some how doubted he called the police.

Simba the White Lion??? HAHAHAHAHA! Wasn't that animation something like 3 frames a minute? Right up there with Speed Racer! Man, you guys are really killin' me now! I want a Simba the White Lion beanie baby. I'll put it right next to my Plankton beanie baby! HAHAHA!

Ok...back up to date after reading the posts! Busy, busy life! I was on Uncle Gus not once, not twice, but three times! Once I sang the Smile song with the Brownies. Another time I caught the "whiz rings" and for that won a box of macaroni elbows! Who remembers Mr. Moose, Mr. Rabbit and Mr. Green Jeans? There was a special on TV a couple years ago commemorating Uncle Gus. It was quite commical, although my children were bored to tears and couldn't wait till it was over!

Ev I don't think any of us were among the "popular" crowd in school but we all had our groups of friends we hung around with!! Don't recall partying at your house when you were in Germany but might have who knows!

Michelle, I remember "Mr. Green Jeans etc."!! Wow you go girl a box of Elbow Macaroni!! LOL Goes to show you it was the simple things in life when we grew up! Now a days the bigger and more expensive is what a lot of the kids want! I don't know about the rest of you but there in no money tree growing in my back yard!!!

Debbie, I agree! "Do as I say not as I did" is right!!

Joni - I bow to the Party-Mistress! You were livin' on the edge having parties with the Superintendent across the street! Now that's guts, girl! :D

Pam - I'm not sure who of our "gang" it was, but from what I was told, a handful of kids showed up at my house under the impression that a Friday night party was a regular thing. I had left earlier that week on the Germany trip but apparently they didn't know that. Luckily for the party-seekers, my brother, Carl, was home and my sister, Linda, was over visiting. (Dad was out!) Carl and Linda recognized some, if not all, of the faces at the door and let them in. Soon, Carl found his inner DJ and started spinning tunes while Linda set out snacks and drinks. A good time was had by all, enough so that they returned at least one other time before I got back!

Oh, Michelle! - I loved Captain Kangaroo! ...with Mr Moose and Bunny Rabbit! Mr Moose dumping ping pong balls on the Captain (I forget what would set that off) and Bun-Bun would always throw back his "greens" from the carrot the Captain gave him. Mr Green Jeans would share some cool animal. Then there was Dancing Bear and Grandfather Clock! I can still hear strains of the theme song! I forget what he called that magic screen thing where line drawings appeared on their own (but was really someone on the back side of it doing the drawings, which meant the artist was drawing everything in reverse so that we in "TVland" saw it correctly). Didn't the line drawings eventually morph into a Tom Terrific cartoon? TV for kids is not what it used to be!

Ev, is it possible? I like you more and more. I never ever got invited to a party at your house (Joni, I live at your house and your parties rocked.) but it wouldn't be wrong to invite me to the next one. I will bring wine (plus I wash dishes or anything else required as a return welcome guest.) I am sorely missing New Hampshire. Why did I leave again?

11/18/09 11:49 PM #1650

Evelyn Gratton (Pepin)

Oh, Missy! Forgive me, but you certainly did come to a party or two of mine! Your dancing moves and personality impressed my siblings, particularly my brother - nothing dirty!...more like a polite she's-my-little-sister's-friend-but-if-I-were-only-a-few-years-younger sorta thing. (When we were 16, he was 23) He spoke of you fondly for quite some time after - in the nicest of ways, of course. :D (A year later, he married his soul-mate, and they just celebrated their 30th anniversary a week before our reunion.) I'm hoping that by knowing you were "secretly admired" back in the day, you will overlook that I have just publicly contradicted you. :) I'm sorry you don't remember.

Evelyn Gratton (Pepin)

Oh! and by the way, Melissa Turner, you are cordially invited to my house anytime! Your presence will make it a party! (I will never make you do dishes, but I may enlist you to mix some of your famous martinis!)

Missy,I am so sorry. I was living in the North end at the time and it was not by invitation,.Hey Miss, I Have pictures of you at my house on Mistic street, with the Juzas Barbara Searles and her sister .I will post them.

Mary, what about Speed Racer?

Joan Whitcomb (Pledger)

Missy,I would love for you and the family to come and visit. Now that would be fun. I miss you.

Speed Racer was the worst animation ever. But he sure was cool...

11/19/09 09:45 AM #1655

Evelyn Gratton (Pepin)

With Disney and Warner Bros animation's existence in the world, I couldn't stand to watch Speed Racer or Kimba the White Lion for any length of time. Even as a kid, I recognized the animation short cut of having the face of the speaking character turned away from the POV of the audience so the mouth didn't need to be shown moving! Cheaters. And when the mouths were seen, I was distracted by how they were never synced up with the dialog. Perhaps I was a fussy kid.... I'll take Mickey and the Gang, Bugs Bunny and crew, Jetsons and Flintstones any day. Scooby Doo? eh... That was just filler to watch after Looney Tunes and while waiting for Land of the Lost and Sigmund the Sea Monster to come on!

Are you ready for this one? ...Creature Double Feature! Anyone?

11/19/09 10:52 AM #1656

Joan Whitcomb (Pledger)

Evelyn, I have one Godzilla and Mothera and I forgot the turtles name. They would be on creature double Feature.

11/19/09 11:25 AM #1657

Donna Knowles (Leduc)

the turtle was Gamera (sp)....i remember pronouncing it as gam-er-a.....lol.......i also thought the best godzilla movie was....godzilla vs. king kong.....lol

11/19/09 11:26 AM #1658

Evelyn Gratton (Pepin)

Oh, yeah! My favorite was the one with Baby Godzilla who would jump over daddy's swinging tail! Dad could breathe fire, of course, but Baby could only do smoke rings!

Giant monsters stepping on major world cities - great cinema! Perfect on a rainy Saturday afternoon, sitting on the couch while searching for the bottom of a potato chip bag...

Having a great laugh catching up on all the postings. Yes, Glenn, I remember going on Uncle Gus and being our usually roudy selves. And I truly, honestly, miss community auditions. I do not care for today's contest-type shows-they are too polished and professional which takes a lot of the fun away. Nothing is better than a tap-dancing granny or a baton-twirling 11 year old who is not particularly great at it but is pretty darned good.

TV shows: Love American Style and the Carol Burnett Show. Especially the Carol Burnett show.

Creature double feature.......going home stoned and watching it at like midnight. I'm surprised I remember that.

And then the t.v. would go off the air til morning. My kids still don't believe that. As if i would make up something like that.....
