Ev....to finish your Carol Burnett, the song went:

I'm so glad we had this time together
Just to have a laugh or sing a song
Seems we just get started and before you know it
It's the time we have to say, so long!

I also loved the "Carol Burnett" show!! She was great! Creature double feature always just seemed plain dumb to me!! Sorry, what can I say!!

Have fun in Chicago, Rob and make sure you check out a few of the bars on Poets St. Lots of great blues and jazz if your into that!!

Hey Rob!
If you are looking for something to do in Chicago, I still have artwork on display at the Homey Gallery! Just a suggestion...:)

Evelyn Gratton (Pepin)

That's it! Thanks, Michelle! and Debbie! My missing lyrics did come back to me this afternoon while doing laundry, but I didn't get to meet up with my laptop 'til now.

Rob - I don't remember Matt Lauer, but I know that Tom Bergeron is a local boy - Haverhill or Methuen, I think. Anyway, my nephew appeared on Granite State Challenge when he hosted it. Enjoy Chicago! We vacationed there a couple of years ago when we attended my niece's wedding. We'd love to go back.

I'd zone out after school with Match Game, and Mike Douglas and/or Merv Griffin, depending on the day's guests. Then, Hogan's Heroes, for sure! I got to homework eventually, if I didn't get it done at school.

Going back to grammar school, I remember getting off the bus in time to see Dark Shadows! Barnabus Collins! Quentin! Angelique! Always thought it was the coolest show, probably 'cuz I was surprised that my Mom let me watch it. A few years back I caught it on sci-fi channel. Until then, I had managed to forget all about the really bad acting!

The Banana Splits. Can anyone name them?

Star Trek Thursday night ten o'clock. I was living in LA then. Does anyone remember the English teacher our freshman year that was very cool, looked like Wolfman Jack and then moved back to California?

11/21/09 10:05 AM #1674

Carol Erlman (Phillips)

Sorry, Scott. I was too busy freshman year dealing with my own English teacher (who shall remain nameless), who spent an enormous amount of time assigning homework and putting more red pen corrections on my papers than I could deal with at the insecure age of fourteen.

She was incredibly talented at reducing all of my hard work to some really low grades, then offering no help as to how I could come close to her high standards. She did nothing to improve my English skills but was great at lowering my self-esteem.

The good news is I later had English teachers (as in "teach" - the verb, not "teach" - the noun) who more than made up for that negative experience by teaching the "whys" of many of our lovely English language rules. And for all the rules that seem to have no rhyme or reason, they taught all the wonderful tricks to remember them.

Scott I remember him. The name will come to me. Tony Sapienza sat behind me in that class!

It just came to me as I was defrosting an English Muffin for breakfast...Mr. Chimeluwski (wrong spelling but that is how you say it).

Joan,
I Loved the Banana Splits!!

The Banana Splits themselves were a rock band made up of a dog (Fleegle), a lion (Drooper), a gorilla (Bingo), and a small elephant (Snorky). The band was designed to resemble the Monkees (who were designed to resemble the Beatles.

How about H.R. Puffinstuff???

11/22/09 01:22 AM #1679

Evelyn Gratton (Pepin)

H.R. Pufnstuf! Yes!! A Saturday morning favorite!! I sent away for a Freddy the Flute off the back of a cereal box once (Cap'n Crunch, perhaps? It was my favorite, although I did also like Quisp and Quake). It took FOREVER to arrive, but it finally did! I wish I still had it. Not only could you make his mouth move, working him like a puppet, you could also play music on it like a recorder.

Okay, ladies: who didn't have a pre-puberty crush on Jack Wild?

I was reminded today of... get this!... Gumby & Pokey! They made a brief comeback in the '80s. I remember introducing them to Ernie (my 'big' son, now age 27) back then.

And how about 'Davey & Goliath' on Sunday mornings?

11/22/09 08:57 AM #1680

Laura Kohut (Douglass)

"Well gee, Daaaaveeey" said the amazingly dumb Goliath! I remember watching that show on Sunday mornings and being annoyed that it was the only thing on because that show sucked so bad!

Remember Hollywood squares? I remember walking home for lunch (my kids think I am making that up) and eating minute rice and watching the Hollywood squares with my mom. Rewatching those shows now was shocking: it was so very naughty!

LOVED Dark Shadows with a passion. The old shows are available through Netflix. Rewatching them as an adult was a bit painful as all of the actors apparently graduated from the school of overacting!

The Way back Machine - what cartoon was that from? Remember when you could only see the Wizard of Oz once a year? Glenn and I would make big plans to watch it at either his or my house. It was one of my favorite traditions.

Lost in Space. What was with the chimp? The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. What a concept for a show. Didn't you always wonder if the ghost watched Mrs. Muir when she was getting dressed? The Flying Nun. Car 54, where are you? The outer limits. My 3 sons (who knew I'd end up a Douglass?)

It's funny how these shows are popping into my head at odd times these last few days. It really feels like I'm dusting off the cobwebs in some corner of my brain. Getting older is strange.

3 words...Major f'ing Mudd...and that capusle door that never seemed to close just right...and he'd crank that pie in the face thing

Bob , do you remember Danger Island? I think thats where Jan Micheal Vincent Got his big break.

11/22/09 07:40 PM #1683

Larry Bunnell

I liked the jungle boy chongo on danger island. But the show that i enjoyed was Monty Python. Before that was on for a short while was a show called the goonies. It was pretty funny also but short lived.

11/22/09 08:31 PM #1684

Evelyn Gratton (Pepin)

Laura - The Way Back Machine - which we all seem to be riding at the moment! - was from the Mr Peabody cartoon, a segment of Rocky and Bullwinkle (Moose & Squirrel!! Boris and Natasha!)

Wasn't the chimp on Lost in Space called 'Debbie the Bloop'? Penny finds her on some planet and makes her a pet.

I loved The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. I always saw the Captain as a gentleman, so I'd like to believe he'd never resort to voyeurism.

Glenn - I all but forgot about Major Mudd! I remember making an astronaut suit out of paper grocery bags and tethering myself to the coffee table and going on 'spacewalks'! (Perhaps now you all know a little too much about me... ??)

Okay, who remembers Pixanne and Jabberwocky? I think both were local (Boston) shows on channel 5.

Laura paul lynne was great as the middle square. But don't forget Gullivers travels.

Linda Lemay (Wojceshonek)

Dark Shadows was my favorite. I agree with Laura. I bought the whole series on VHS a long time ago and trying to watch them was torture. I can't believe that I every thought that show was scary. The acting was so bad I only watched about 4 shows.

I remember in grammer school I would watch Leave it to Beaver and that's how I knew it was time to leave for school.

YOu all have brought up so many memories I'd forgotten. Too funny.

11/23/09 09:31 AM #1687

Karen Dobrowski (Hernandez)

God, you all are cracking me up!! I watched ALL those shows as well.

I remember getting in trouble for watching Dark Shadows after school with my sister... it gave my little brother nightmares! So, after that when it was on, we'd stick him in a corner behind a big chair, so technically he WASN'T watching it! My mom couldn't figure out why he still had nightmares!

I also remember playing Lost in Space in St Casimer's, before I started at Green Acres in 4th grade... I would get so annoyed because I could NEVER be Judy - I always got stuck as Penny because of the dark hair!

OMG!! Remembering all the shows from our childhood is amazing and what is even more amazing is that I do remember all of them!! Who started this whole show thing anyway??

Well, change of subject but if anyone is around this Sat. night and interested my friend's band is playing at a bar/restaurant in Deerfield 6-9PM. I know it's early but you know how those small towns are! It is called "The Lazy Lion" and it is right on the Main St. You basically follow Rte. 43 past the Deerfield Fairgrounds straight into town. The food is very good! If anyone is interested we could meet and have dinner and listen to the band. They play a lot of blues and music from the 60's-70's. Carol you came and saw them last month when they played there! If anyone is interested in going I can fit 6 people in my van including myself and I wouldn't mind driving. We can always go someplace else after that in Manchester like the "Strange Brew" or "The Derryfield" or whereever! Give me a call or text me if you are interested at 603-361-5210!

Went to Kevin Farley's yesterday for his annual turkey killing and had fun. I also have a nice, fresh turkey for Thanksgiving too!! Thank you, Kevin you are the best!!
