I'm writing this on Sunday May 5th 2013. It is just 3 days until we will arrive in McPherson for the reunion. I have been looking at other classmates profiles and I see some recent pictures. This is good because hopefully I will recognize you when I see you. (Not that any of us has changed) I am getting excited about seeing everyone. We are going to have a great time. See you soon, Mimi

I've promised to do this for a long time. Well now the time has come. Winston and I are here with Dick and Deanna Bell in Dallas, and after a little arm twisting, I am now going to update my profile. Dick has promised to help me as I am very computer challenged.
I am not going to give you the whole 45 plus years, but just a few highlights in an effort not to bore you. Winston and I were married in 1966 and are about to celebrate our 43rd anniversary in August, which is no easy feat in itself. We have two daughters, Natalie, 39 and Caroline, 37. Three grandchildren, Caroline's children, Megan, 9 and Clay, 6 and Natalie's one, Joanna, 4.
After being in the landscape contracting business for many, many years in New Bern, I went back into the teaching profession after an absence of 20 years. After a couple of false starts, I landed a job as the "Homebound" teacher for Craven County Schools. I serve students in every grade and every subjects. ...Turned out to be a perfect match for my training, talents, and personality. Essentially I go to see students with mostly medical problems and cannot attended school. I have been doing this for the last 13 years and have signed up for at least one more. Just doing it year by year at this point. What it comes down to, is teaching lots of High School math, if you can believe that, as that is what everyone needs the most help with.
I have pursued a couple of hobbies that might be of interest. After my little bit of high school and college Spanish, I become obsessed with learning to really speak the language, spending many hours learning. As a result I went on four different home-stay visits in Spanish speaking countries staying with families who did not speak English for a total immersion experience. Great fun!!
In the last five years or so, I have taken up watercolor painting as a hobby. I will include a couple of pictures in this profile. This will definitely be a retirement activity, if I ever do actually retire.
Winston and I are on the tail end of a big epic two month trip around the US and into a little bit of Canada in a 19' class "B" RV. We have stayed at campgrounds about half the time and the rest of the time with friends, family and motels. We have seen many wonderful sights including a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon, and Stampede Days in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. We are in awe of the beauty of this wonderful country of ours and the great effort that has been made to preserve the beauty for future generations.
I will end by just telling you a little about our day to day lives. In additions to visiting the grandchildren, one family 2 hours away and the other family 5 hours away, we are both very active in our church, First Presbyterian, in New Bern. I help lead a Woman's bible study and Winston is chair of the very active Outreach Committee. We have some close friends that we get together with about once a month to play silly games and do lots of laughing. Our lives have been blessed and hopefully will continue to be. I send love and greetings to all my fellow class of '63 classmates. I would love to hear back from you. Love, Mimi

I guess I should chime in here. I am one of the ones who has known Ray since kindergarten. He actually lived just around the corner from me. So I can't remember a time when I did not know Ray.  I always felt a special friendship with him. We always took  some  time at our reunions to talk  and catch up on each others lives. About 15 years ago or so Winston and I took a trip around the US and some of Canada. One of our stops was to visit Ray. He was nice enough to organize a little mini reunion  at his house including Benny, Connie, Ray, Diana, Winston and me..  It was a special time for all of us.   A memory I will hold dear to my heart. Especially now.

Rest in peace, my dear friend.

Guess I should chime in here. I've known "Dicky" Gier since kindergarden. He and I were among those who went all the way through school together starting at Washington Elementary.  I always liked him and enjoyed his quirky funny sense of humor. My condolences to all who loved him. He will be missed. Mimi

I was so sad to hear the news that Judy had passed away. I really got to know her at the reunions better than I did in high school. She was a great gal and will missed by all who knew her. Mimi
