Stephen Jackson Workman Obituary

Stephen Jackson Workman
"67 is not that old!"
Murray, UT-Steve wanted to live to be 100, or at least 70. But he died unexpectedly March 24th, 2018 from a long battle with numerous ailments- including A-fib. Born November 18, 1950, Steve felt that he really hit the jackpot when he was adopted by Willard (Jack) and Mary Workman as a baby. His father was an ex-Marine who was severely injured in the battle of Iwo Jima, so it was just the three of them. They always had a good time together and invited many friends and family to share in their adventures. Their favorite vacation was Swan Lake, Montana, and they went there every summer for over 40 years. After graduation from Hillcrest High School, Steve served an LDS mission in Germany.
He was the father of four beautiful children that he was very proud of. He was a home-builder and remodeler. He especially enjoyed working as a regional manager for Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Steve is survived by his wife, Marilyn, children Melissa (Loren) Mitchell, Matthew (Megan) Workman, Michael Workman and Jon (Sara) Workman. He has 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was thrilled to see his family continuing to grow.
Funeral services will be held at noon on April 4th 2018. There will be a viewing Tuesday, April 3rd, from 6-8 pm. Also at 10:30 am prior to the funeral service. 755 East Three Fountains Circle, Murray, UT 84107. Interment will be at Memorial Redwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to The LDS Perpetual Education Fund or your favorite charity.

Deepest Condolences Marilyn & Family, Steve was a great friend. We were best buds at Midvale Jr High building Estes and Century model rockets, calculating and measuring trajectories, and all kinds of nerd stuff. Steve always impressed me with his designs and builds—I have sweet memories of helping him build a “foldable kayak” which he launched during one of his Swan Lake Montana sojourns. He (and his parents) also introduced me to joy of watching Raquel Welch, in her “One Million Years BC” movie début in the mid-60’s—I fondly recall we both enjoyed her moves and skimpy atire. It was so great to see Steve and Marilyn at the 45th Renion picnic, both were so happy together. I will miss my old friend. —Terry J Crebs

I can't remember the class for sure, but I think it was a science class, and I just remember how smart I thought Steve was, and so very patient to try to explain concepts to a non-science oriented person!  Steve, you will be missed!  And Marilyn, my sincere condolences.

I was so shocked to hear of Steve’s passing. We did a lot of crazy and fun things together in High School. He was a dear friend and “shirt tail cousin”. I think we have common pioneer ancestors. Steve was always fun loving, kind, and positive. I know he was greatly loved and will be sorely missed by many of us. Our prayers go out to Marilyn and his wonderful family. This a way too soon to lose him.

I'm so sorry to hear of Steve's passing... way too early to lose him!  I remember him in school, always with a smile on his face and a ready "hi" when he passed you in the halls.  Always so nice to everyone.  I was lucky to be at the 45-yr reunion picnic and to be able to talk to Steve and Marilyn after they were married.  Hearing their story and talking of their new life together was a real pleasure.  Lots of smiles and laughs!  They were very happy.  Marilyn, my heart goes out to you and to your family.  I keep you in my thoughts and prayers and pray for your peace and comfort through this difficult time.  Hope you feel all the love from your many friends!

Love, Leann

I'm deeply saddened to learn of Stephen's passing.   About a year ago, I reached out to some people that I knew fo find him and say hello.   I had an old phone number and tried to call, but got no response.  Steve and I had been friends since before grade school.  We were always doing things together and Mary and Willard,(Stephen always called them by their first names so we did too) his mom and dad sort of adopted me as well.  Not having a brother, Stephen was that for me.   We had a lot of fun with all of our neighborhood friends, usually playing hide and seek, or stealing apples from Old-man Dalton's orchards.  Sometimes hiding in the ditches and throwing rotten apples at passing cars, we were terrible on some occasions.  Usually in our teen years on Sunday night, all our friends in the neighborhood would get together and watch Mission Impossible.   One of our parents would always host us with food and desserts, and then we would all go out and do our own Mission Impossible.

Stephen was always a kind spirit, loved everyone and always looked for a good laugh.   I can still hear him laughing and so glad to hear he met someone later in life that he shared his fun spriit with.  Rest In Peace my dear friend, my eyes are flowing with sadness that we did not reconnect, but you were always in my heart as a true friend.
