Bob and I were very close friends in highschool and later during our last two years of college. I remember shooting pool while listening to music in his basement and playing basketball almost every afternoon. He was always a good friend to me. He went to Syracuse and was off to the "U" (Miami). Two years later we were both back in Montclair and resumed our friendship. He graduated from Bloomfield College and I from Upsala College.

After college we went our separate ways until one day about 20 years ago he walked into a mortage business I owned. We went out to dinner that night and at the time he was the owner/operator of a company in Clifton that manufacturered expensive wallpaper. Unfortunately wallpaper was a fading industry and Bob was having the difficulties of other small suppliers in that industry. Depsite his problems he remained an optimist but later closed his business. At that point he was living with his Mom in Cedar Grove.

I sensed that something wan't quite right with Bob but didn't have any idea that he was at the begining of his illnesses of alzheimers and dementia. Later he moved to a small apt in Montclair and I had a friend take him out to dinner. He was very happy to have the attention from someone he didn't know and enjoyed his evening with my friend. For awhile I kept in phone contact but that became more difficult in time

Bob's brother, Kent was taking care of Bob at that time but Bob was becoming increasingly difficult and ultimately was moved to a nursing home on Gates Avenue for several years where he received all the medical attention that is possible given his illnesses. Unfortunately, Bob passed away quietly this past Spring. As and old and dear friend I must say I was deepely saddened at the news, especially since he was more than just somebody I knew in school. May he recieve the peace ansd happiness he so richly deserves. I miss him despite the fact that our lives took us in separate directions. Thanks for being such a good friend Bob! And thanks to Kent for being such a caring brother and keeping me informed along his final journey.

Dear Chris, Richard and I are so thankful to learn about Bob, we’ve been so puzzled at the incomplete obituary news. I last remembered him playing golf in early 1990s, we talked, I played where he belonged which was close to where my children were in camp, Sparta NJ.

Very sad! Thank for filling in the blanks.

Chris, that was a lovely memory you posted. I'm glad that I got to know you and your sister Jeanne on Edgecliff Road. Those were such happy times, and nice that we have those memories to sustain us as we go on in life. I hope things are well with you. Arlene

We just found his father’s obituary in the New York Times from 1994. He had 3 brothers and a sister. Really a great guy.

Chris, do you know where his brother Kent lives? Do you know who wrote the obituary and why they waited so long ? Ginny

Ginny:

Bob had three brothers, Jon, Art and Kent and one sister, Susie. Not sure who wrote the obit but I would think it might have been Susie or Kent. It sure was minimalist....

I knew Bob from Mt Hebron on.  We were always on the basketball court either playing with, or against, each other.  In the summer we would play until it was too dark at Watchung Plaza basketball courts.  As best as I can remember there was Bill Morgan, Ralph Yarnell, Bill La Touche, Jim Bunting, Dick Stoval to name a few. It was a good summer of 61.

Bob lived up the street from Andy Muns.  We all became good friends.  In fact in the summer of 62 we all drove my mom’s Corvair across the country.  When in LA we all lived on a boat in San Pedro Harbor.  We had great times sailing to Catalina as many weekends as we could.

Andy and I got jobs and stayed on that summer.  Bob returned home after a month.  Bob went Syracuse University where he was a walk-on basketball player on their freshman team.

After that summer I lost touch with Bob.  I will always remember our summer adventure.  Andy, Bob and me.

I left Mt. Hebron at the end of 8th grade having started kindergarten there. I don't know if Bobby was there all that time but I remember him so well. It was very sad for me to hear of his death and the sad circumstances. Bobby was always there with us, a friend, a tease, a pal. In some ways I remember him more specifically than any other boy. He was just present, always fun, always a positive and happy kid in our group. I am sorry he is gone but my memories of him will last.
