Coach Schmidt, you were my teacher and friend, I am proud that I had the opportunity to share with you those years gone by, you will always be loved and remembered on this site and in all of our hearts, rest in eternal sleep, Your face will always be remembered.

No longer with us in body, but never forgotten in spirit, death can show us the way, for when we know and understand completely that our time on this Earth is limited, and that we have no way of knowing when it will be over, then we must live each day as if it were the only one we had. Life is so fragile. EVERY DAY IS A GIFT . . .

Remember, It is not how we die that is our legacy, but how we lived the Life we were given.

"To live in hearts we leave behind, is not to die." Thomas Campbell

Coach Schmidt lived across the street from my family. I babysat his children, Laurie, Kathy and Brad. I remember in jr. high he was the summer events planner. Margaret Sayre and I helped him decorate Alessandro Jr. High gym for summer dances. He was a good and kind person. I remember his parents telling stories about when he was a teenager. He lived close to the park where they filmed some of the Tarzan movvie. He loved playing there. Coach was a good and kind person.

I REMEMBER COACH SCHMIDT OUR GREAT TRACK COACH, I NEVER RAN TRACK IN SCHOOL, BUT I REMEMBERED THE LESSONS I LEARNED IN P. E., WHICH CAME IN HANDY WHEN I JOINED THE MARINE CORPS AND HAD TO RUN AND RUN.  I ALSO REMEMBER DATING HIS DAUGHTER LORI, I WAS AFRAID TO ASK HER OUT BECAUSE OF COACH, BUT HE TREATED ME GREAT.

Dick remained in contact with me after I moved to Sacramento my Freshman year (1974) and continued following my running career through high school, college and to US National Championships.  Dick even traveld North once to see me race at Berkely in 1981.  A coach with persistance who would never let you forget that you had a talent that you needed to share.  Between coach Reading at AJHS and Dick Schmidt at MVHS, these two men helped to shape years of growth and experience in a sport I truly love...but, they also helped forge direction in a young man that would serve him (me) well the rest of my life.  Thank you for being there for me Coach, when I didn't even know I needed you.

I received great tips during tennis lessons under his guidance because I was a beginner and a challenge. A cool individual with great patience. RIP Mr Schmidt.

Not sure how I missed this posting originally. Coach Schmidt was a really fine track coach. He showed such positive leadership for our entire team during the years from 1962-1966 when I was part of the team. I also had Coach Schmidt for P.E. a couple of those years as well. He was one of the best coaches MVHS ever had IMO....yes

R.I.P. Coach Schmidt.
