In Memory

Charles Brovelli

Charles Richard "Charlie" Brovelli, a lifelong resident of Napa Valley, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025, at the age of 83.

Born in St. Helena, California on March 15, 1942, to Charles and Lena Brovelli, Charlie was deeply rooted in the Napa Valley community he loved. A graduate of Napa High School's Class of 1960, Charlie built a diverse and accomplished career spanning several decades. He worked as a surveyor for Napa County, served as Plant Foreman for Syar and Harms concrete, owned Valley Furniture Refinishing, and ultimately retired in 1995 as plant superintendent after many years with Basalt Precast Concrete Division of Dillingham Corporation.

Charlie was known for his extraordinary craftsmanship, meticulous attention to detail and unparalleled work ethic. Even in retirement, he continued his passion for repairing and refinishing furniture, generously offering his skills whenever needed. There wasn't much Charlie couldn't fix. His neighbors and family knew him as the go-to person for building fences, constructing decks, or repairing bicycles for neighborhood children. When his children were young, he regularly volunteered his expertise for school improvement projects whether it be building a reading loft or painting a new volleyball court, showing his commitment to his community.

An avid gardener, Charlie planted a garden every year, taking special pride in cultivating his prized tomatoes. A devoted sports fan, he enthusiastically supported the San Francisco Giants and 49ers throughout his life.

Charlie's heart of gold and radiant smile touched everyone he met. His willingness to help others and his kind spirit made him beloved by all who knew him. Charlie's craftsmanship lives on in the many pieces he lovingly restored and in the countless lives he touched with his generosity and skill.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 55 years, Mickey; daughters Michelle Phillips (Matt) and Kimberly Thorpe (Wade); granddaughters Natalie and Abigail Thorpe; sisters Patty Sullivan, Kathi Nielsen (Don), and Vikki Smith (Jerry); and four nieces and eight nephews. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lena Brovelli, and brothers-in-law James Sullivan and William Kelly, and sister-in-law Kathleen Hric.

A celebration of Charlie’s life will be held on May 21, 2025 at 11:30am at Tulocay Reception Hall and Garden Court.

What beautiful words are said about you here in this announcement. You and I were warriors as young bucks at Napa Schools, and bumped heads a few times. I know we had some classes together, but I can't remember.  You accomplished what counts most in life, and that is you are loved and admired for your accomplishments, by your family and those that knew your talents as a provider. I hope we can meet again one day and become the friends we should have become. Time and circumstances took us on our seperate ways, and you deserve the best. May God watch over you and your loved ones, and one day we might see each other again.
