Catherine B. Knutsen

Catherine B. Knutsen, 84, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, in San Francisco. Catherine was born in Hazlebrook, Pa., to Wante Sr. and Charlotte Bartol. She graduated from Hazelton High School in Pennsylvania and Indiana State Teacher's College in Indiana, Pa., in 1940.

Catherine was married to Kermit Knutsen in 1943 and moved to California. She was an educator and taught high school in Napa and Berkeley and retired from the Napa Unified School District in the early 70s. She was an active member of the California State Teachers Association.

Mrs. Knutsen is survived by her children: John, David, Mary and Edward Knutsen. She is also survived by her siblings: Wante J. Bartol of Florida, Doris Vaughan of Schuylkill Haven, Pa., and Carl Bartol of Scarsdale, N.Y. and she will be missed by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Kermit, brother Donald Bartol of Roanoke, Va., and grandson Christopher Knutsen.
