Bernita Davis (Hostetter)


HOSTETTER, Bernita Vorine (Davis) Dearest wife of 54 years of Dr. James Hostetter; mother of Stephen Hostetter (Caryl), Jennifer Averbuck (Chico), and Michael Hostetter; grandmother of Emma and Henry Hostetter; Sam, Will and Hannah Averbuck, and Hallie Hostetter; sister of Don (Marilynn) Davis. Preceded in death by her parents, Vorus and Majel Davis. Jim and Bernita were married in 1962 at the First United Methodist Church of Napa, followed by an unforgettable reception at the Silverado Country Club. In her childhood, Bernita enjoyed membership in the Browns Valley chapter of 4H, where she developed her love of sewing and cooking. Years later she became known for her delicious pies, which became the centerpiece at every family gathering. After her time at Napa Valley College she enjoyed working in the lab at Queen of the Valley Hospital. She and Jim shared their common passion for antiquing around Sonoma County, even making several trips across the country, to find and restore Victorian treasures. She enjoyed many fun years of tennis at the La Cantera Tennis Club. Bernita was devoted to her family, and pursued excellence in everything she did. Persevering well to the very end, Bernita died November 25, 2016, outdistancing all expectations of life. A member of First Presbyterian Church of Santa Rosa. A native of Browns Valley, California, age 74. A celebration of Bernita's life will be held Friday, December 9th at 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 1550 Pacific Avenue, Santa Rosa.
