David Carl Heitz

David Carl Heitz

David C. Heitz of Upper Makefield Township (PA) died at his home on Dec, 18, 2004 of prostate cancer. He was 62 years of age.
 
Dave was born in St. Helena to David M. and Carola Heitz, and was the first grandson of Michael and Louise Heitz to carry the family name. After attending St. John's Elementary School, he graduated from Napa High School in 1960 . Dave then completed bachelors degrees at Oregon State University in science and pharmacy, as well as an MS degree in pharmacology. In 1970, he received a PhD in pharmacology from the University of Iowa, Dave was subsequently appointed an assistant professor of pharmacology at the University of Michigan, before joining the Richardson Merrell Company in Cincinnati, OH as Assistant Director. Later, he became a founding officer of GH Besselaar Associates, a clinical research company now known as Covance. In 1990, Dave retired and became self-employed.
 
During his retirement years, Dave pursued varied interests, including collecting and restoring antique cars, theater organs and especially early phonographs and Thomas Edison memorabilia. His volunteer work included lectures and demonstrations of Edison's light bulbs, phonographs, electric dynamos and movie projectors. For five years, Dave was also a volunteer teacher of pharmacology at Delaware Valley College's adult education center.
 
Dave is survived by his wife Nina; daughter Molly, granddaughter Madeleine and son-in-law Craig Smith of Manchester, England; son Matthew and daughter-in-law Naomi of North Carolina; brother Charles and sister-in-law Mila of CA; plus may relatives from the Napa Valley.
