In Memory

Carolyn Johnson (Larsen)

Carolyn Morae (Johnson) Larsen, 71, passed away on Jan. 10, 2014. She went peacefully in her home with her family by her side. Carolyn was born on Jan. 27, 1942, in Napa, to Chesley Irl Johnson and Marjorie Faye (Walker) Johnson, also of Napa.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Carl John Larsen; her mother, Marjorie Faye (Walker) Johnson; son, Carl John Larsen, Jr.; daughters, Diane Carol (Larsen) Holstein and son-in-law Michael J. Holstein, Mallory Justine (Smith-Larsen) Davis and son-in-law Michael B. Davis; “adopted son,” Robert Carl Lundeen; sister, Irlene Fay (Johnson) Morgan and brother-in-law George W. Morgan; brother and sister-in-law, Edwin Leigh Larsen and Dianne S. Larsen; niece and nephews, Dr. Edwin K. Larsen, James E. Larsen, Jenifer M. (Morgan), and George C. Morgan; and grandchildren, Beau Thomas Larsen and Lauren Morae Larsen.

Carolyn was a very energetic little girl. She grew up on Jefferson Street, where she kept the neighborhood lively, roller-skating around the block. Although she was a Girl Scout, she was definitely a tomboy. Carolyn graduated from Napa High School in 1960, where she was very active in sports. She loved to play softball, hockey, played in a bowling league and was a vibrant pom-pom girl. She enjoyed playing the Cowardly Lion in a rendition of “The Wizard of Oz” in the junior/senior play, which she reprised for the family throughout the years.

On Sept. 24, 1961, she married Carl Johnson Larsen at the First Presbyterian Church in Napa. Following their marriage, she changed from a city girl to a farm girl when she moved to the Larsen Ranch.

After the birth of her children, she was very active in their lives. Along with Carl, she participated in many activities for Los Carneros Elementary School, being camp mom and dad at Las Posadas 4-H Camp, and raising show pigs for Las Amigas 4-H Club.

Her hobbies included gardening, camping, fishing, boating and dancing. She loved entertaining and cooking for family and friends. She loved feeding the many duck hunters that her son invited over throughout the years. Wherever Carolyn went she was well-liked. She kept everyone entertained and was very animated. She was the best caregiver and always put her family and friends before herself. Carolyn will be missed by everyone who knew her.

The Larsen family would like to give a special thanks to the Lundeen family for all of their love and support during this difficult time.

A graveside memorial for her friends and family will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 16, at Tulocay Cemetery. A reception will follow at Treadway & Wigger Funeral Chapel.

The family suggests donations in her memory be made to the American Lung Association, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave., Suite 800, Washington, DC 20004.
