Napa native Robert L. Negri died Sunday at his residence in Woodland after a sudden illness. (December 9, 1990)

Mr. Negri was born on May 9, 1942 to Fred A and Anne (Bonaguiso) Negri. He was raised and educated in Napa, and attended St John the Baptist Catholic School and Napa High School, graduating in 1960.

Following graduation, he went to Oregon State University and received a degree in economics in 1964. He then entered the Peace Corps for two years serving in Venezuela where he formed a farming cooperative in the local communities.

Upon completing his Peace Corps obligation, Mr. Negri went to work for the State of California Department of Transportation. He had worked for the State of California for the past 24 years and was presently chief of personnel management for CalTrans.

He married Lynna Berry in Sacramento in 1972. An active member of the U.S. Army Reserve for the past 23 years, Mr. Negri received several military awards including the Meritorious Service Award for Outstanding Service to his country and currently held the rank of Warrant Office III.

He was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing, hunting and gold mining on the family claim in Quincy. In October, he had just enjoyed the annual family deer hunting trip in northeast Nevada, which has taken place for the past 15 years.

He was a member of the California State Employees Association, California Association of Managers and U.S. Army Reserve 418th Military Intelligence Detachment of Sacramento.

Mr. Negri is survived by his wife, Lynna Berry Negri of Woodland; two sons, Kevin and Darren, both of Woodland; his parents Fred A and Anne (Bonaguiso) Negri of Napa; one brother, Fred L. of Napa and three sisters; his twin Sandra Harman of Lake Oswego, Ore.; Joan Shurtz of Woodland and Danelle Negri of Napa.

Interment will be at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
