Vallejo - Stephen G. Powell passed away at Kaiser Hospital in Vallejo on Wednesday morning May 28, 2008. He was born in Oklahoma City, OK on Mar 5, 1942 to Kathleen and Jack Weathers. Shortly after his birth, he was adopted by his stepfather, Frank Powell. Stephen attended Napa High School and graduated in 1960. He enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, performing duties of a medical corpsman and a military operating room specialist from 1966 to 1969.
Stephen loved to fly in planes since he was a child, and later in life he became a flight instructor. He attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Duran, OK and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree. Stephen had a degree in chemistry and graduated as a safe engineer. He also graduated from Napa College with a nursing degree.
During 2005, Stephen joined the Solano Association of Realtors, where he made a lot of good friends. He loved to have fun riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Stephen was a very funny, gentle and generous man. He will be missed deeply by his family and friends.
Stephen is survived by his wife Mila Valesquez-Powell; stepson Hever Carranza and his wife, Enma Carranza; daughter Kimberly; son John Mark; mother Kathleen Powell; brother Rick Powell and his wife, Julie; grandchildren, Jacqueline, Jazmine and Hever Carranza Jr,; many aunts cousins and his good friend, Jessica Ramirez.
There will be military honors by representatives of the United States Army on Thursday, June 5 at 2 p.m. at the Sacramento Valley VA National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Rd, Dixon CA.
