John Richards

John Richards

John A. Richards passed away July 6, 2007. Born to Retta and Elmer Richards April 23, 1941, John traveled the country in a car and trailer in 1948 with his parents and his brother, Bob, visiting 38 of the 48 states.

They settled in Napa in the early 1950s and grew up in the Coombsville area on a small ranch while enjoying the fishing, camping, hunting and swimming there. He was a member of the Wild Horse Rod and Gun Club and a car club called the “Road Gents.” He worked at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard for 30 years in Shop 67 as a machinist. He took great care in knowing the names and birth dates of his grandchildren and relatives’ children. His love of old cars and anything concerning them found him tinkering with them all the time. He loved to find out what made things “tick,” and he could fix almost anything. He loved fishing so much that he could fish all day without eating and it wouldn’t bother him. He is survived by his daughter, Deanna; son-in-law Wes; grandchild Alex; step- grandchildren Mackenzie and Austin; his brother, Bob; sister-in-law Kit; and nieces Laurie and Amy.
