In Memory

Al Sherwood

Al Sherwood

Al Sherwood, husband of Carolyn Roberts went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 6th, 2011 after a brave and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Al is the father of Kimberely Sherwood Elam and Kenneth Sherwood, and is beloved by his siblings, step-children and 11 grandchildgen, including Kristin Elam and Kendall Sherwood.

A native of Napa, Al was born on April 4th, 1941. He attended local schools and graduated from Napa High School in 1960. Al was a master craftsman and carpenter, and built many of his family's homes. He also worked for many years as a supervisor for the commerical construction firm of Howell and Lee and later went on to found the construction firm of Sherwood and Borges. He also managed his family's real estate holdings with his partner and wife, Carolyn Roberts.

He gave up construction for golf and as a member of Napa Valley Country Club, he possessed a handicap that most would envy.  Al was an adventurer and a sportsman.  He hunted pheasant, went diving for abalone, and loved to fish.

Al dearly loved his wife, Carolyn.  He was devoted to his children and step-children and doted on his grandchildren.  He was brave and courageous to the end and, as always, was ever the consummate gentleman.

A memorial sevice will be on Saturday, June 11, at 3 p.m., at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 1917 Third Street. Immediately following the memorial service, a reception will be held at Napa Valley Country Club.  All family and friends are warmly invited to attend the service at 3 p.m., and the reception beginning at 4 p.m.
