Phillip Simpson
Laid to rest in the arms of Jesus was Phil Simpson on July 5, 2006 after a two-year battle with cancer.
Born Phillip W. Simpson in Santa Rosa, at the age of three months, he moved to Napa with his family. Phil was educated in Napa schools, graduating from Napa High School in 1960. In 1963, he married the absolute love of his life, Sharon Santos, and began a 43-year loving relationship. He worked in the construction trades, Christian Bros. Mt. La Salle. He also worked as a sandblaster for George's Gun & Sport Shop and in 1969 started Phil's Sandblasting which flourished for 33 years. He retired in 2002.
Phil enjoyed young people; he was youth leader in his church and once took 14 youths to Puerto Rico to build a church with other youths from all across the U.S.A. He was a member of the Napa Community Seventh-day Adventist Church and a former deacon. Phil also loved trap shooting, turkey shoots, and could be seen with his boys and their model 12's at local events, always willing to donate a helping hand to all who asked and some who didn't. He had an infectious smile and kind, big heart. Through the years, he was a sponsor of local softball teams, men's, women's, and the "Phil's Sandblasting" old men's team. He once bought into a sprint car "for the kids." He loved to travel and was involved in Napa's Sister City Launceston, Tasmania Program. He also had the talent of rock carving which appears all over the valley, and was known as the "Rockman."
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Sharon; sons, Kirk Simpson, Todd Simpson and his wife Lisa; daughter, Charlotte Allen; grandchildren: Ashley, Afton and Avery Simpson; Amanda and Jeffrey Allen; and his constant companion, a Schnauzer named "Shadoe." He is survived by brother, William of San Rafael, Oliver of Vacaville, and Walter of Columbus, New Mexico; and also by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, William B. Simpson and Bernice Simpson and by sister, Diane Blazer. "Good Night Sweet Prince."
