Frank Smith

Frank Warren Smith Jr., “Smitty,” died Jan. 20, 2010, on his ranch at Lake Berryessa. He was the last of the cowboys and died with his boots on. Frank was born on Dec. 2, 1941, in San Francisco, to Frank and Avril Smith. He attended St. John’s Catholic School in Napa and then Napa High School.

Frank married Maria E. Rodriguez on July 22, 1961. They made their home in Napa Valley with their five children. He was a well-known rancher in the Valley. 

 

Also, he is survived by his sisters Carole Duncan and LaVerne Millstead and his brothers John Smith and Stephen Smith.

 

Frank was preceded in death by his children, Tony Smith, John Smith and Frank Smith.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Yountville. The rosary will be said on Monday, Jan. 25, at Claffey and Rota Funeral Home, 7 p.m. Condolences may be sent at claffeyandrota.com. His wife, Maria Smith, and three children, Leon Smith, Rose Bell and LaVerne Smith, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren survive him.

Frank Warren Smith Jr., "Smitty", died Jan. 20, 2010 on his ranch at Lake Berryessa. He was a cowboy and died with his boots on. Frank was born on Dec. 2, 1941 in San Francisco, CA. to Frank and Avril Smith. He attended St. John's Catholic School in Napa, St. Vincents High School in Vallejo and Napa High School, graduating in 1960.

Frank married Maria E. Rodriguez on July 22, 1961. He worked at Val Nap Beverage Company in Vallejo until 1969. Then they moved to Napa Valley with their children. Smitty became a well known rancher in the Valley and his cows carried the Double Eagle brand.

Smitty was a fourth generation native to Napa Valley. His great grandfather was Louis Siquierra who settled on the Twin Sisters and founded Wild Horse Valley School. His grandfather was John M. Rodgers, a founder of Rodgers Bottling Company in Vallejo and Rockinar Dairy in Napa.

His wife Maria Smith and 3 children, Leon Smith, Rose Bell, LaVerne Smith, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grand-children survive him. Also, he is survived by his sisters Carole Duncan and LaVerne Millstead and his brothers John Smith and Stephen Smith.
