Highway Worker Killed

     May 11th, 1973 - A county permit inspector was killed and his road maintenance supervisor was seriously injured today when they were struck by a southbound car while they were standing by Highway 29.

     Dead a upon arrival at Queen of the Valley Hospital at 9:10 am was Perry Stiltz, 30 a permits coordinator for the state Division of Highways who lived at 1020 Pony Lane.

     Mecun and Stiltz were standing on the west shoulder of SR 29 at Yount Mill Road when they were struck by a car being sought after by police for two property accidents a short time before.

     The two men were inspecting the site of a permit application for a driveway. They were thrown into a ditch beside the roadway by the car's impact.

     Officers said the driver of the car was possibly suffering from a diabetic reaction at the time of the accident.
