In Memory

Gary James Vaughan

Gary James Vaughan, born May 12th, 1942 passed away on May 18th, 1997, age 55, due to Mesethemeoma.

Dad loved his country and was a very devoted patroit. He served in the Navy until 1969, earning a bronze star. He became an electrician while in the Navy and kept that as an occupation throughout his life. He lived in Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma and Washington and back to Kansas in his last years. He lost his battle with cancer in 1997 and he is buried in the Sedwich County cemetery. He loved to help others rather they were human or animal. He had a very green thumb, always had an amazing garden, we miss him dearly.

Gary is survived by his son, Gary J. Vaughan 11, his daughter Jennifer, 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Within a few months after graduation, Gary Vaughn, Steve Thomas & I rented an apartment together in Napa. Steve & Gary were working at Napa State and I worked at Mare Island. I worked days and they worked nights so we didn't see much of each other. After several months I moved out and several months later Steve & I again shared an apartment. I never knew what happened to Gary. Now I know. Steve Thomas ended up being my best man. My best rememberance of Gary was that he was a good joke teller. Especially the one about the air battle between Messerschmitts and Folkers.

I'm glad to learn that Gary had a good life.

After thinking about it, I would like to say that my comment about a good life was off center. To pass away at 55 with the type of cancer he had was not part of a good life.

Gary was another Napa hero, and should be remembered and honored as such. I am sorry to here of his passing. I don't remember him very well, so we probably didn't have any classes with each other. This website tells us what the bronze star represents, I thank and salute him for his service.
