In Memory
Richard "Dick" VaVerka came into this world October 18, 1942 in Vallejo, CA, born to Gerald and Ella VaVerka. He returned to our Lord August 17, 2013. He grew up in Napa, CA. After high school he moved to Southern CA to attend Long Beach State. He then attended UCLA School of Law, graduating in 1966. Dick eventually settled in Costa Mesa, CA raising his four children there. He worked in Orange County as an attorney, investor and entrepreneur. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior in 1970 and was part of the early Calvary Chapel movement.
Dick met his wife, Roni, in 1993 and they married August 5, 1995, living in Big Bear, CA and then in Riverside for the past decade. Dick had a quiet engaging manner and sharp wit. He loved the Lord. He loved life. He loved learning. He also had a passion for cooking, architecture, building projects, and especially dancing. He is survived by his loving wife, Roni; brother Don; sons Dave, Rob, Mike and Bill; step-son Nate and 10 wonderful grandchildren.
Dick impacted the lives of almost everyone he met. We will celebrate his life at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 31, 2013 at The Grove Community Church in Riverside.

I have known Richard since my second second grade days at Salvador. We went all the way through high school, and then I don't remember ever seeing him again at any of our reunions. Maybe one. We had many classes together. What a great man he was. He never caused any trouble or grief for anyone. He was a true gentleman. I am glad he led a great life, and left so many of his grandchildren to tell his legacy. I know I will see him again, and we will continue our friendship, and knowing each other. I wish his family well, and that they all have peace about his passing. Rest in peace Richard.

Dick was someone I met our senior year at Napa. He always impressed me as a very fine person. He was friendly, and, at least with me, not at all overbearing. I don't remember him ever saying anything bad about anybody. He was jovial and good natured. Someone told me at some point later that he became an attorney. I don't know if that's accurate and there was nothing about that in the posting I saw, but if he was, I would suspect that he would have been a fine counsel. Like Arlie, I don't remember seeing him at a reunion, but then I didn't make them all. I am sorry to learn that he is gone. Rest in peace. We all hope that we will be able to see all those that have gone before us after this earthly existence. I'd like to spend time with them all and catch up.
