I remember Dustin from our old boy scout days at Troop 2 at the Methodist Church.  That is where I learned not to look through the crack on a one way swinging door.  He was a nice kid.  His mother was the Napa High Librarian.  I think that his brother Forest was going to be a priest.

Dustin joined the navy just before I did. He was about a week ahead of me and I remember running across him twice in the galley at lunch and then at dinner. I remember it was good to see a familiar face and talking to someone who actually knew you. I was in the Recruit Drum and Bugle Corps in boot camp and played at Dustin's graduation. After the ceremony was over he came over to the Drum and Bugle Corps barracks and told me he had orders to the USS Helena CA 75 a heavy cruiser homeported in Long Beach, CA. I don't think he got a school on the way, just boot leave and report aboard. I imagine he may have ended up in the deck force but don't know for sure since I never ran into him again. I remember Dustin was a pretty quiet guy. RIP sailor.
