Cheryl Leplat (Gribble)

Bruce, have you gotten rid of the cast already?

After the EQ in Napa I heard a rumor that the buildings that used to be Ridgeview are red tagged.

Paula, Thanks for the update on Pueblo Vista.

Margo (Lanpheir) and Jim Holland, as well as, Sandy Swearingen both live in that Mobile Home Park.  Margo has gotten back to me and has let me know that they were being provided food and water.  Their water pipes still aren't fixed, yet.  I haven't heard from Sandy, yet.

Oh, Dennis, that is so good to hear that your parents are all right and no structural damage was done to their home.  I, certainly, remember those Basalt block houses when I'd walk past them to go to a friend's.

Everyone knows what a shy person Paul Vallerga is. That is the reason he gave me for not personally announcing his own birthday today. He keeps asking me if I would post it for him. Would everyone take a moment to wish Paul a "HAPPY BIRTHDAY"?   There.......are you happy now Paul?

Birthday kisses and wishes, Bob

Hi Everyone,

I'm so glad that we have this site for communication.

Cheryl, the cast is long gone.  I've been doing physical therapy for several weeks now (while on a month-long trip) & hope to begin playing volleyball again this week.  Alas, I can't play the sympathy card any more.  Thanks for asking.

It sounds like no one I know was injured; a blessing.  The worst I've heard about, Diane, is Sandy Swearingen.  I spoke with her on Monday.  She said that the quake knocked their trailer off its foundation.  Apparently it was difficult for them to get out, but no one was hurt.  She feared it may be a total loss.  They were staying in their camper & have many family & friends to turn to.  I'll try & contact her again.

Did someone say that Larry Hamilton lives in the same trailer park?  Anyone know how he's doing?

Again, I'm so grateful that no one was hurt, most suffered repairable damages & that we've all gathered on this site.  Keep it going, everyone.

Hi Paul; I see you....

I actually had lunch w/my bff, Judy Gage Cook, 'n picked her up @ Napa Vly. Mobile Home Park.  Wow!  You can definitely tell Mother Nature was not happy out there.  Lots of devastation, from coaches thrown off their blocks, to piles of mostly ash, from the ones that burned.  Quite a few neighbors wandering around, checking on other neighbors, which is a good thing.  Lots of red 'n yellow tags.  On a separate note, apparently, many tourists are very disgruntled b/c their vacations have been interrupted.  My sentiments?  Take it up with God!

Paul Vallerga - Have an absolutely wonderful birthday! It was great to visit with you at the reunion - that whole evening just went so fast and thery were so many people I did not get to see or talk to, but very glad I had the opportunity to share a few minutes with you and some of our other Alta Heights alumnae!   ---   Glad to hear everyone is OK in Napa, and hope Sandy Swearingen is able to recover from the loss of her home.

Hi Bruce,

Glad the cast is off and that you are mending well.

Yes, I had her that Sandy's trailer had collasped to the ground and that she's living in her travel trailer, but I haven't heard back from Sandy, herself.  :(

I'm glad to see such few injuries from the quake. The purpose of seismic retrofitting is to prevent injury and loss of life. Looks like it helped in Napa. There is no such thing as "earthquake proof" buildings. Damage occurs, but people are able to escape unharmed, in most cases.

Happy Birthday, Paul, and everyone be well.

Susanne Carroll (Boone)

Glad to read only property damage among our team.  My sister still lives in Napa, off of SR29:  only glass damage and fallen stuff.  What a blessing.  Barbara Abate had similar damage.  Talked to Becky Burris (Ford) in Browns Valley (?) just b4 the quake.  Hope she is ok as she just returned to Napa after a 50 yr vacation:  Never realized she had that kind of power.  Glad to see Bruce is on the mend.  Where did u go on vacation??? All is well in the NW--today.

Yes, we are grateful that no one was injured, we are climbing out of the mess.  I have never experienced such violence and hope I never do again.  Our hometown was mugged and looks very sad right now.  Wishing Sandy all the best....  On another note we are Napa Strong!  Happy belated birthday Paul, I still wonder if we were switched at birth since both our moms were both named Betty...but I think we may have settled that when we celebrated our birthdays the morning after one of the reunions.

Hi Susanne,

Becky Burris?  Wow.  Please say hi for me.  More importantly, Pat Hartle has been trying to find out how to locate her; apparently efforts during the pre-reunion searches failed.  Can you either have her contact me, or I can tell you how she can contact Pat, or whatever is best?  I don't think we swapped info @ the reunion picnic, did we?  You can e-mail me at bagenhoven@netscape.net or call me @ (619) 697-8009 (home phone).  So can anyone else, for that matter.

As for my recent trip(s) - I went with a baseball travel group & saw 5 games in 5 stadiums in 5 days in 4 cities (Chicago, Detroit, Milwaukee & Pittsburgh), came home for 4 days & went to Dallas & Houston (more baseball stuff) then drove thru to Mississippi & Georgia visiting friends.  In Georgia I got another baseball fix by visiting the Ty Cobb museum in his home town then went to Harlem, GA.  Why?  It's Oliver Hardy's home town, of course.

Diane, et al, I called & left a message for Sandy again on Thursday with no response yet.  Trusting that no news is good news -- especially since she has so many family members & friends available.  Jane, sounds like you were put through the mill.  Did your baseball bat training from long ago serve you well?  Sincerely hope you haven't suffered too much damage.

Bruce, we are still digging out, but our house itself is sound!  We are doing what we can this weekend, the we leave for a trip on Tuesday: Vienna, Prague, Munich, Venice, Rome, and Florence...will leave all this behind for a month..

That will be nice, Jane.  I was hoping to go to Budapest, Vienna, Durnstein, Melk, Slazburg/Linz and Passau up the Danube, but it's not going to happen.  :(

Bruce, Sometimes, it's hard to find the women, in particular, because of marriage and name changes.  Boy, we sure tried to find EVERYONE!

As far as Sandy Swearingen goes, she never did get back to me so I had asked Joan (Arruda) Latimer if she had heard from her, she had not, but promised she'd call.  Joan let me know, yesterday, the Sandy is fine.  I know that her Mobile Home had collasped and that she was living in her Travel Trailer, so I knew she was find physically, but I was still concerned and would have liked to have heard from her.  They are now, trying to go through their insurance to see what can be done.

JANE, I LIVED IN VENIZA FOR A TIME, BUT I ASSUME YOU HAVE BEEN THERE BEFORE?

08/31/14 11:54 AM #567

Jane Dickel (Jennison)

No Mary, this will be our first time to Venice...the only part of Italy we have seen before is the Lake District.  This trip is for cities....Diane, if you do get the chance to do the Danibe cruise, it is wonderful!  We did it from Passau to Budapest in 2002... One of our most memorable trips!

Diane,

Thanks to you & everyone else for tracking down Sandy; I'm delighted to hear that they're doing OK.  Believe me, I know how hard everyone worked to track people down (I even helped a little).  It was an impossible task & I'm amazed at how many you guys were able to find.  Well done.  Thanks goodness efferts haven't ended.

And yes, Diane, it's hard to find the women...it's incredibly hard.  I've been looking for the women all these many years and --- well that's another story.

Jane, I think your trip planning is incredible -- maybe the bat incident made you psychic (sp?).  You anticipated Napa's Armageddon & decided to get out of town.  Well done!!  I know you'll have a great trip.

Well, keep looking Bruce, we're right here.  :)

Jane, I hope you love Venice, I sure did.  It was my most favorite part of my trip.  That and a little out of the way little town called San Gimingano.

Wow!  Becky Burris was right in our own backyard. Susanne, Could you ask Becky to register here so that we will have her e-mail and mailing address for any future events?  Barbara Abate, too?  Thank you.

I understand Larry Hamilton also lives in the Mobile Park.  Seems like everyone survived it.  Lots of wreckage and worn nerves, though.
