Sammy,

Marilyn Budde was hurt pretty bad with the her broken/dislocated arm. The bruises are now passed the yellow stage but I think when they knocked her out and reset it, I hope they got it right. She seems to be able to scratch her back more easily (poor joke) Actually it worked out best from her. When she finally got up and saw the bed she had just left, the heavy mirror that was hanging over her head was now down on the bed where she had been sleeping.

Bruce,

Sandy's house is looking pretty good. Putting the home on a new foundation has made a big difference. Please don't feel too sorry for Sandy. The last email I got from her she was at a wedding in Hawaii!!!!

Jane,

The photo you posted looks like Cinque Terra.  :)  I'm sure you had a WONDERFUL time!  Welcome home.

Bob,

That's all good news.  Thanks for sharing.

Diane

Jane, my older brother took his wife there for their 25th Wedding Anniversary.  They LOVED it there!

I have been there twice on Rick Steves' trips.  It is such a gorgeous area!  I like the slower pace.  In 2002 we went kayaking in the ocean.  I was surprised that we were not given floatation devices.  Instead of a kayak (2 bladed) paddle, we were given a canoe (one blade) wooden (very old) paddle.  We decided that it would be a good idea to stay close to the shore!

Ah, Cinque Terre....a lovely part of Italy, I have friends in Sestri Levante so try and get there every couple of years.  Portofino and smaller surrounding towns are great too!  Pesto country.

Has anyone been to Russia lately? I signed up with Geo Ex to take their comfy train from St Petersburg to top of Norway across the Arctic circle in search of Northern Lights and back to Moscow for Christmas.  Dr Zhivago made a big impression, apparently.  Has anyone been to Iran?  Think that's my next trip.

Mary,

You are way too adventurous for me...that walk to Berryessa must have twisted something! (You were among the crazy few of us that did that aren't you?)  I do have St. Petersburg on my bucket list.

Jane -- Oh my goodness -- that walk to Berryessa -- was that taken by several of you girls after a (mostly) non-chaperoned party @ my house at the end of our Senior year?  If so, do you remember who (innocently) left a suggestive undergarment behind which my mother discovered?  It must have taken you gals all day to get there.  How did you get back?  If I've got the right event, I have many memories of that party.......Does anyone else?

Jane Dickel (Jennison)

Oh dear, Bruce, I don't remember a party.  What I remember is leaving from Fred Knoles' house at about 3 in the morning because we wanted to beat the heat...I remember Kay R looking like she was going to collapse.  Someone brought us supplies along the way....we ended at Spanish Flat where Del was working...I think he and someone else brought us home...how embarrassing to not remember more.....crazy kids!  I think Kris Bush was with us....

That's so much for the kind comments everybody. Day 6 of the trip. Stopped overnight in Morgantown West Virginia (home of the University of West Virginia...cool town!). Will be ending in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania for a wedding (not mine). Visit with friends on the east coast (maybe Vermont), for a couple of days and then drive home. Breaking in the new car nicely ha ha. Will have drien 2,800 miles by tomorrow.

Don't get around like Mary though. Wow!   wink

correction "driven"  (before Bruce gets ahold of this).

Jane, Bruce .......the great Berryessa walk -a-thon......what I remember best was our boys paying up their bets with all of us when it was over, that impressed me.  Was Vicki there?  Janice R?  It was a hoot that's for sure but for the life of me I don't remember what we did when we finally got there, sleeping in the street?  I think we hitched a ride the last mile......or was it the last 25 miles Jane?   AND, that my parents didn't say a peep about this adventure, yet if I was home two minutes after midnight, I was done for.

Larry, I like your trip, I've sort of put off traveling in the states until I get around the world, but your itinerary is a nice one...fall in that part of the world is always nice.  What kind of car did you get?

Stopped by the Elks Club to put the finishing touches for the Napa High mini reunion luncheon on Saturday Oct 11th. It will include classes '60, '61, '62,'63, '64. At last count we are now over 200 registrants. It should be a great time.

Jane Dickel (Jennison)

Ah Mary, I don't think anyone knew our secret about that last mile...I don't think Janice or Vicki were with us.  Nancy G?

Marsha Grady (Williams)

So much for that secret. I was along for the walk too. And we did get a ride back.

Hi Marsha and Jane, were Helen or Diane with us?  Seems like there were 5 of us...I think we were up to Berryessa when we stopped walking.  As I recall we laughed all the way and obviously it was one of those great memories I won't ever forget!

Whenever I drive to Napa I go over the hill through Berryessa, it is like a freeway up there now, new road all the way...but, alas, they have moved all the trailers out.

Jane Dickel (Jennison)

Mary and Marsha...ahah! Another piece to the puzzle....so it was Mary, Marsha, Kay, Jane and I think Kris Bush because she mentioned it in my yearbook...I don't remember Diane or Helen....Marsha, how is your memory?  We were up to Berryessa when we stopped because we wanted to rest and look fresh when we cruised into Spanish Flat.  That's when Kay began to look very pale....

10/05/14 05:15 AM #616

Mary Pieratt

That's right, Jane, I remember Kay getting a little woozy plus it was becoming warm later in the morning.    Marsha, it's been 50 years....is it really still a secret?......maybe not so much now, I realize, but no one else remembers what we're talking about.   LOL   think Kris was there, I'm finding out.

PS,  Marsha please come over when you come down off the hill.

The Napa High mini reunion has been sold out and the Elks Club is now at capacity and not taking anymore registrations. Thanks!!

EVERYONE --

This morning I got a call from Fred Cohen.  As most of you know, Fred chaired the very successful reunion we enjoyed this Spring.  Fred has learned that he has to undergo bypass surgery due to a blockage in an artery; one of those "silent" things we hear about -- may have a tie-in genetically.  His surgery is tomorrow afternoon, Sept. 6.  He's in Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae.

Fred's taken good care of himself, he's in good shape & the prognosis is very favorable.  The doctors anticipate no problems.  If all goes well, he may get to go home sometime this weekend.  Still, it's very scary.  I know he'd appreciate your thoughts, prayers & support right now.

Burton (Burt) Williams

I'll certainly pray for our old friend Fred.  He looked pretty darn good at the reunion.  He'll be fine.  Thank you for the update Bruce.

Wow, just goes to show that one never knows!  Fred looked really good while working on the Reunion.  Sorry to hear this.  Prayers going up for Fred and his family members that he makes a speedy recovery.  Will be thinking of you, Fred, and sending "good thoughts".
