Fred - so sorry to hear about the bypass surgery - I understand that is a fairly traumatic experience, but I know you will have a full and speedy recovery. Hope the stress of the responsibility for our 50th Reunion was not the reason for your condition!  - Take care and listen to your doctor...........my prayers are with you.

Hi Everyone.  Re: Fred's surgery -- I spoke with a nurse in ICU @ the hospital this morning.  She said that the surgery was successful & Fred is doing very well.  He'd just awakened but said he'd give me a call later.  Don't have any other details yet but I wanted to pass this along & thank all of you again for your kind thoughts & prayers.  Keep that positive energy coming as I'm sure he can still use it.

Hi All,

I received an e-mail from Jerry Charlup who is visiting from Conn.  He went to visit Fred, but was unable to see him as he was in ICU.  However, Fred's wife, Ann, was there & they spent an hour together.  Fred continues to recover very well & Jerry hopes to have a real visit before he goes back home on Saturday.  I guess I didn't realize that this was a quadruple bypass surgery.  Ugh!!

Jerry did mention that apparently the nurses have fielded a lot of calls at the hospital & may be a little peeved.  To me, this is great as a lot of people obviously care about & are supporting Fred.  Thanks again to you all.

Fred:  we did the by-pass thing a few years ago.  It was very scary but turned out perfectly.  The patient recovered fully and remains better than new.  Prayers and lots of positive energy to you and those who love you.

Got to Napa in Sept to visit my recently widowed sister.  Your weather was devine.  Downtown Napa looks great considering all the repair that is happening.  Did the High School suffer?  I had not seen Shearer since it was replaced.  What a difference.  Thought it was amaizing that Seminary St and Food City still looked almost the same save the mature flora.

Will be thinking of you all tomorrow.  Raise one for the missing.

Update -- I spoke with Fred Cohen yesterday for the first time since his surgery.  He'd had his first post-surgery visit the day before & all is going quite well.  He was walking, he was in good spirits & sounded well.  I'll spare you his description of the proceedure -- suffice to say it sounded brutal.  But it was worth it & we should still have Fred to kick around for a good, long time.  He hasn't been able to focus much on the computer yet, but he wants to thank everyone for their thoughts & prayers.

Best wishes to my longtime classmate Fred Cohen!  A speedy recovery Fred!  What worries me is that you looked better than anybody at the reunion! I'll be going through a cardiac stress test myself, on the 27th. We'll see how that goes my man.

Mary:  sorry about the late response. Just returned from the trip (6,900 miles). Made it to Vermont, as the furthest point, and it was totally ablaze with color.  I sold my miata to my son (his family is having a blast with it). Bought a Lexus IS350C convertible with retractible hardtop. The first four seater I've owned in over 20 years (now I can tranport my two granddaughters ).  The color is "Deep Sea Blue" with light grey upholstery.  It is a total beast (306 hp and zero to 60 faster than a GTO, but gets 20-30mpg not bad), but also a wonderful touring car and the miles just flew by. I only did about 500 miles a day so I wasn't fatigued when I got off the road each day.  By chance I stopped in a lot of university towns (in West Virginia, Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa) and most of them were having homecoming at the time. When I got to Vermont I picked up my niece and nephew after school and they couldn't believe their eyes when the top came down. I had to laugh...they had their hands in the air and were singing all the way home.

yes I kept the old plates

Bruce,

Thank you for the updates on Fred.  Glad to hear he's doing well.

Larry,

Wishing you the best on your Stress Test.  Prayers that all the readings will be looking good.  Nice car, Larry.  What does the license plate say?

Burton (Burt) Williams

Good to hear classmate Fred's on the mend.

That's a beautiful ride, Larry.  Sounds like a great trip and taking the niece and nephew for a ride must have been a highlight.

To you ladies that made that Berryessa walk:  You need to figure out just who the hell was there.  Not fair to hold us in suspense...  we need a legitimate roll call.

Thanks Burt! Yes that was the highlight of the trip ha ha

Diane:   The plates read  "NATWOOD"   ...an ode to Natalie Wood. It didn't start out that way, but I decided to keep the plates just to keep her name out there. An amazing amount of people come up to me to discuss her.

Burt: the niece and nephew during the ride in the convertible yelling "put your hands in the air like you don't care!"

Ah youth

Ok, we have decided the hikers to Berryessa were Marsha Grady, Mary Pieratt, Kris Bush, Jane Dickel, and Kay Rutherford.  No more suspense....

I just spoke with Fred Cohen this morning.  He continues to improve & is gradually getting off various meds.  He's walking & expects to begin some physical therapy.  He says not to rule out the possibility of his showing up @ Ray's breakfast next month, though it's too soon to say whether he'll be up to.  At this point all signs are positive for a full recovery.
