Judy Bob Roberts Easley.........you are to old, and don't you let anybody tell you any different.

Good thing I love old people.......now, not old men...young, good looking ones....but they have to know how to dance....not just sway from side to side. Every time some fool on T.V. dances they sway from side to side. That is pitiful..you know they could pay for dancing lessons. If I was going to dance on T.V. I would at least learn how to dance......We did do some dancing...maybe if kids would have sockhops and after game dances they wouldn't be so awful. If one is dancing, one cannot hold his pants up...

Say Freddie, maybe at the reunion you, Connie, and Kayla could do a repeat performance of Mrs. Lilley's favorite cheer, you know, "Louisiana Shake It". :)

Polly & I did take dance lessons, we can/could square dance and round dance but we have to have a caller on the squares and cuer on the rounds. :(

Say Freddie, don't discourage the kids from "sagging" their britches. It sure makes it easier to catch them, the kids, not the pants. I personally think it's hilarious when a dummy with 'sagging' britches tries to outrun a police officer.

How did the meeting go today about the reunion or did you have one?

Wm "Billy Dick" Richmond Holly

Meeting went well. Next meeting scheduled for February 9 at 1:30 p.m. We had two additional classmates attending today, Glenelle Pearce Brown, Joan Edwards Breedlove, Diane Mayeaux Christopher, Ben Pratt, Jerry Sibley, Ronald Canerday, Polly St. Andre Holly and yours truly. Dianne drove in all the way from New Roads, LA.

We voted to set the reunion dates as Thursday evening, May 27 and all day Friday, May 28.

We plan to have a tour of old NHS on Friday.

We visited several possible locations for Friday activities. Nothing written in concrete yet, still checking prices so we can come up with a cost figure. Might be able to share some details after the next meeting. Looking into motel/restaurant/meeting room rates.

May 27!!! Oh no, my new teeth won't be in yet. Are you sure you can't delay it for a couple of months??

JUST KIDDING! Well, about the delay anyway. Working to make the reunion very much appreciated. I sure hope more sign up.

I'm sure we're going to have a real good group there. I have to get letters out to those without computers & maybe to those with computers who are not obviously active on the website. I guess some folks check email and some folks don't. :) I would think most of those who have signed up will bring a spouse or date so that number will be doubled.

Hello from Kansas, how did the meeting go on Feb.9th?

02/10/10 08:51 AM #42

Wm "Billy Dick" Richmond Holly

It went well, we had three new classmates attending, Roy Gentry, Jim Buckley and Richard Johnson in addition to Polly & I, Glenelle Pearce Brown, Ben Pratt and Dee Canerday. I'll add more to the "50 Year Reunion" page here on the website later today or tomorrow.

02/11/10 04:34 PM #43

Wm "Billy Dick" Richmond Holly

See the "50 Year Reunion" page for a quick glimpse of the meeting results reflecting, cost, agenda, etc. We will be doing a mailout to all classmates including the ones on the class website.

Cost will be $50, per person, if received by April 1. Cost will be $60, if received, after April 1 but before May 1. There was discussion about breaking down the cost farther but it was later decided not to do so due to the expenses we'll be incurring that also have to be covered beyond the two meals. If this creates a hardship on anyone we can deal with that individually. If we're short we'll pass the hat, if there is an excess we'll set up an account for the next reunion.

Freddie DeBlieux

Hey everybody.....If you don't hear from me, please know I am not avoiding anyone. Work is busy, so I am busy.

I was going to borrow the money to come to the reunion, but if John Harry can stop by and pick me up for the ride to Natchitoches, I will find a place to stay. I can just eat off of everyone's plates, so that will keep me from starving until John Harry brings me back to the "home" in Baton Rouge. John Harry will be so happy to know he is responsible for my life, and what little joy is left. My children will be so grateful for his kindness. I promise to be nice, maybe not for the entire weekend, but as long as I can hold out !!!!!

Anyhow...now off to "Gay Paree" for my ensembles. I would never want anyone to think I was suffering hard times. Chanel.....oh Chanel....Perhaps there will be time for a little "lift" here and there.

Can't wait!! And a good time was had by all....

Shall Remain Nameless.....

Well, Raymond and I couldn't come up with the name of the grocery store that used to sit between Lasyone's Restaurant and the Cane Theatre so Ken Hatcher had to tell us it was the Live Oak Grocery.

That made Polly and I start trying to think of any businesses that were still in their same location as when we were at NHS. I thought I was posting here but it actually was on Raymond's comments at the bottom of his profile page. Not many still there but wow, the list of those that have moved/disappeared is long. I'll try to move that list to here. My computer is old and sometimes doesn't like to allow things to be done.

Well, it let me do it, I think,

Yep, you nailed it, Kenneth. I'm trying to think of any of the old stores that are still there, almost none. Gone are Gunter's Shoe Shop next to the Rendevous Cafe which is also gone.

Still there:

Kaffie Frederick Hardware (Front St)
Mason Salter's (2nd St)
Motel Louisiane (but the red blinking light that could be seen from the Chief Drive In is inoperative)
College Cleaners (123 Jefferson)

Gone:

Gunter's Shoe Shop (2nd St)
Rendevous Cafe (2nd St)
Kollege Korner (700 College at Caspari)
Mrs. S.T. Sibley's Store (College & Caspari)

DeBlieux's (Front St)
Hughes (Front St)
West Bros. (Front St)
Todds (Front St)
American Department Store (Front St)
Nichols Dry Goods Store (Front St)
Groves Superette (220 E. Third)
P & C Rexall Drug (Front St)
McClung Drug (Front St)
Michael's Men's Store (Front St)
Don Theatre (Front St)
Cane Theatre (2nd St)

We probably missed a few but it got discouraging to see how much the town has changed. And, the "old" bridge (Keyser at Williams) is now the "new" bridge.

Raymond Sanders added Jesse Grappe's Grocery on Washington and the controversy that developed when he wanted to stay open until 11 p.m. when all other grocers and most businesses closed at 5 p.m.

Kenneth Hatcher added Stephen's Grocery and Warren's Grocery 1 & 2. And one I barely remember, the Circle Cafe at the north end of Front Street by the old "Uncle Jack" statute and the "circle" that went around it.

By the way, for those who might be curious, the old statue is now in Baton Rouge in front of a state "farmstead" exhibit. Natchitoches was seeking to get it back recently to put it on display at the old railroad depot which is to be turned into a black history museum. However, as I remember it, LSU is going to take possession of the statue and keep it in Baton Rouge.

It is good to know where the black statue is located. I would like to see it again after all these years. I think it should be back in Natchitoches where it use to be. Maybe that will happen one day.

The statue is at the LSU Rural Life Museum off to the right of I-10 after you cross the Mississippi River at Baton Rouge traveling east. You can do a search on www.bing.com and probably on www.google.com for "uncle jack statue" and pull up pictures and articles about it.

It just dawned on me...should I be one without a computer, or one with don't know what it is going to do next computer.

Judy Bob, I appreciate your kind hospitality, but just what kind of farm are you talking about ?????

02/23/10 04:16 PM #52

Wm "Billy Dick" Richmond Holly

Freddie, at least you don't have to tell folks you are from Pineville. It seemed strange but when we used to tell folks we live in Pineville they wanted to know "inside" or "outside". Seems all knew about the state mental hospitals here even out of state.

Rosalie Lott (Ewing)

Reese (spelling ?) Variety Store, a smaller version of Morgan & Lindsay and next door to Todd's on Front Street, is long gone. If you like "dime stores" and you're ever in Fredricksburg, TX, there is one on the main street there that is just like our 50's dime stores.

Speaking of Fredericksburg, TX, have you visited the nursery located a couple of miles east of town? They have a butterfly house there also, you have to pay to go through the butterfly house, but can wander through the fields of flowers, absolutely beautiful.

Also, if you like the Bluebonnets, there is a side road just north of town that is almost a one lane road but it is two way and is paved, has several low water crossings that are only wet, but passable, after a rain. It is a beautiful drive. It almost looks like a private road but is public, however, no pulloffs, we usually drive it both directions. If interested I can give you some directions to it.

Also, north of there is a pair of nesting eagles, or at least they were last time we were up there. The state has even made wide shoulders for parking due to the folks stopping to watch them.

Hi from Kansas, Do you have any other information about Zelda Mitchum? I see that she lives in Ragely, Louisiana but where is that located? I would like to contact her since she is not coming to the reunion. Any information would be helpful. Elwanda Miller McCabe

Lofton, I posted you a sweet email, but the system would not accept it...so you are on the list with Di, Elaine, Chester, Glenelle, Judy Bob, and all those lost emails floating around out there......Lordy, Lordy, Lordy, Lord, please don't let those emails land somewhere they don't have any business being.....I do try to be careful, but the devil living in my computer just does as he pleases....Where would he send the emails to get me into the most trouble???

Dave Splitlog from the computer section told me he is building me a computer....what does that mean? Is the state so broke they can't afford to buy me one???? Or, am I so special I need one built for me...I think I had better worry......<><><><><>*****

Just to say "hello". Looking forward to seeing everyone. Enjoyed reading the message and learning we are all in the good condition as Freddie. My computer is like her's, has a mind of it's own or maybe it's the operator.

03/01/10 10:35 PM #58

Freddie,

I have searched "hi and lo" in the Alexandria-Pineville area for your lost emails, without success. I'll expand my search to Natchitoches and the rest of Louisiana and then the other 49 and then the world. "I shall return" them to you as soon as I find them.

We may have to recruit our computer experts Raymond Sanders, Bill Hyams & dang, I can't remember who that other one was, might have been Selby Jean, for assistance.

Later,
