speaking of mrs. lilley as some of you have--she started a high school christian club--it might have been a BAPTIST club. anyway, i joined. i remember john harry robson was in there, too, and probably rosalie and polly.

she kicked me out of the club because i would not give up dancing!!!!

now i ask you--is that the christian attitude. needless to say she was NOT my favorite teacher.

was anyone else kicked out??? i sure hope so.

Here's a jolt for all of you. Several years ago, Mrs. Lilly appeared at my door in New Roads. She and her husband had moved here (I think from Alaska) and were looking for a place to live. I quickly found her one, else I was afraid she would move in with me, and as you know, no body would tell her "No!" Hubby Jim became her doctor and, believe it or not, she and I became quite good friends! How's that for "dogs and cats"?

I've got to say when our kids were in school I often wished for teachers such as Mrs. Lilley with the backbone and gumption, the courage, to stand up for what she believed.

I believed in supporting the teachers & school administrators. That said, it was a shame when a parent had to go to the school and go face to face with the principal to remind him he was charged with protecting our kids while they were by law in his charge, and demanding that he do so or accept the consequences if the parent had to come to school to protect their own child from another student.

our kids knew if they got in trouble at school they would be in double trouble at home.

we were so blessed that they were in a wonderful school and never had the bully problems that so many have now.

the principal of our first grader, gavin. goes to our church and is wonderful. teachers in his school were hand picked by him--it is a new school, so they are great, too.

THANK you billy for keeping all of us together for this reunion.

Diane;are making this stuff up? What did Mrs. Lilly teach? Eudora was a little old for our class but does anyone remember the fifteen year old in second grade? Corbitt Smith.

Let me add a little tid bit here. Mrs Lilly had two sons, Miles & John. Miles lives in Converse...retired. John was the drum major a year or two ahead of 60 class. He is ahead of music at Baylor university and has done quite well. Mrs Lilly came from the old school and might have been a little extreme, but her husband was a minister if my memory serves me right.

a little correction kenneth--john was presdient of baylor and just got fired last year because he was not enough of a fund raiser.

he had been president of another university--i think in calif. not sure where

this was too bad. i thought he was doing a great job at baylor

were three of the boys--miles, john and james was younger--i think his name was james.

miles was the "black sheep" of the family.

i do not remember the 15 year old, but i do remember gladys smith who was a lot older than we were in elem. school. there was another girl who was a lot older and cannot remember her name.

her older brother was pete smith who was arrested for killing his girlfriend. he threatened to kill my uncle sam james when he got out of jail. my uncle was a deputy and then sherrif. when pete got out he went to see sam and did not kill him but thanked him--for what i cannot remember.

MERCY--where do these thought come from.

i think mrs. lilley taught math. am i correct??

I sense Senior Moments.....
Mrs. Lilly taught us Eight Grade Math....second floor, end of hall, east side. Some of us had lockers right outside her room that year and were often in trouble with her about "activities" around the lockers. She tapped people with her yard stick to keep them "separated".

Bet we could all tell some "Mrs. Lilly stories"...
Remember this???? She would be teaching in front of the room and we would start looking out the window and giggling about the NSC boys kissing their girlfriends at the end of the Varnado Hall building across the street. Mrs. Lilly would hurriedly pull down the roller blinds and start fussing about what they were doing...and about our looking. More than once those blinds shot all the way up. I think some of our boys called her attention to the college activities because they knew that math "would be over for the day" and we would get her "lesson".....

Best stories, of course, were of her "corrections" to our behavior during our fund-raiser assembly programs and pep rallies.

She did have three sons...Miles, John and James Ernest. Don't know where John went after he left the presidency of Baylor.

Thanks for the correction Judy Bob...first mistake I have made this year and we are in april. LOL Anna, I had forgot the yard stick Mrs. Lilly waved though I should have remembered that. Dan Carr taught genereal math on the 3rd floor. Does any one know how he is doing? Also Judy Bob the Pete Smith incident really was a long time ago, pretty gruesome news for Natchitoches in those days

Kenneth...

Coach Carr lives in Natchitoches.   I'm sure Glenelle, Roy or some of the others could give more information.  He and Coach Melder come to the BOFA guys' gathering every year and they were at the class of '59 reunion last year.  (Bill, Roy, Donald, Gil and others will have to explain BOFA!....I do have some pictures that I could post....but, won't.)

To all...

I have pictures taken by Betty Brown, Judy Fletcher, GJ Norman, Charles Britt, me and others from the class of '59's 50th reunion if any of you would like to "see our friends" from that class.   Just send me an email and I'll forward them on to you.  (And, they are identified!)  They are in a Snapfish program...free to see.  (annasb11@cox.net)

I'm up from my nap, Raymond, and am going back to the Lilley's----- When the class of '55 had their 50th reunion, my brother (who was in the class) had a good visit with Myles.  At the time, John was president of the U. of Nevada Reno.  Very soon afterward, he was named president of Baylor.  My h.s. memory of John is that he was a really good musician and drum major.  Seemed destined for leadership.  John's dad was the preacher at my church, Westside Baptist, when I was a child. I don't remember the club Mrs. Lilley booted you out of, Judy Bob, but there's a lot that I don't remember !......By the way, did y'all know that the class of '55 had their 50th reunion at Southfork in Dallas?  If you want more details, let me know and I'll post them....................This has nothing to do with anything, but-----did you know that Ken Starr (of Whitewater/M. Lewinsky fame) is now the president of Baylor?

Hi from Kansas, I do remember Gladys Smith that was in our class. She was so much older than we were. I was always a little scared of her because of what her family did. I have her school picture and will bring it along with all the other pictures I have. See you soon. Elwanda

Probably no help from Bill Clinton for Baylor. I would like to hear about 55 reunion Rosalie. Also if you did not (any one) take Anna up on her offer of the 59 class you should. Great pics.

this is the day that the LORD has made.

My 7 year old grandson was baptized this morning. a very exciting time for us.

He asked our pastor how long he was going to hold him under water and Bro David said "it depends on how well you behave. the whole church cracked up because he has been known to speak his mind--no matter what and also to MISBEHAVE ON OCCASION

AND JESUS SAID "SUFFER NOT YE LITTLE CHILDREN, COME ONTO TO ME"

PRAISE THE LORD

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO LIVE AWAY FROM NATCHITOCHES:

Polly & I moved back to Louisiana due to the ages of her mother and my parents.  We could not get closer than Pineville due to my work at the federal prison in Oakdale.  We wanted to be close by to be able to do for them when needed.  My dad died in '05 & Polly's 99 yr 7 mo of age mother died in '06.  My dad had alzheimers and we were driving to Natchitoches frequently, often everyday for one problem/emergency or another.  Polly and her sister, Ethelene, took turns, a week at a time, staying with their mother for her last two years to be able to let her remain in her home instead of a nursing home.  My mother will be 93 this month and still lives in her house, hopefully she'll be able to stay there as long as she lives.

Polly's brother, Dwight, still lives in Natchitoches also.

We're up there at least once a week sometimes twice.  We rotate between I-49, US 1 and US 71 but they sure get old.  I feel like I can drive either of those roads in my sleep and have tried it but Polly gets excited when I do it.  :)

DO MISS TEXAS!  Keep it there for us Judy, one of these days we may get to come back.  The love of Texas is about like the Harley Davidson quote, "if you have to ask, you just wouldn't understand".

Hey Judy,

I heard a story about a little boy cutting up in church.  His dad got up and was carrying him outside for an attitude adjustment.  As they reached the back door of the santuary the little boy hollered out, "y'all pray for me"!

Sounds like that might be your little grandson.  :)

My last time there I was thinking about Doug's steak house. Doug Abington owned it and I remember coaches Carr & Melder, both single gentleman in the late 50's had supper there frequently. Mr. Abingtons son was a NSC grad and owns the People's State Bank network. He resides in Many. (Pete Abington)
