Thanks Terri, for the spring message, maybe now it will get here quicker...... One can only hope so! Even though we had a nice January thaw..... Today looks like winter is back!

Happy Birthday to all the up coming birthdays.... Most of you celebrating the half century mark? Is anyone doing anything special for their big day?

Spring is just around the corner....yet there is still time for some winter fun in Michigan. I'll be kayaking on the Muskegon tonight, in the full moon, with some of my crazy family! Should be a grand time!

Sounds like a BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR of a time, hope no one tips....... But, I was out at work last night and the moon was bright and beautiful, but it was cold...........
Brave lady Mitzi..

I was in Rochester Hills the week before Christmas. The lights were fantastic. Downtown Newaygo should give something like that a try. Might cause conjestion on 37 though.

The kayak on the Muskegon, as usual, was wonderful.
Such a pretty river day or night. Even with cloud cover the full moon reflected well off the snow and the river was easy to read. All paddlers were bundled appropriately...maybe too well. We were disappointed when our destination came all too quickly. Another 1/2 hour would have been just about right.

Now I'm hoping for a sunny weekend for another float. It almost feels like summer with the late winter sun on the face.

This weekend has been lovely.....

Thanks Terri! I said it was a lovely weekend! Maureen was there cheering me on. I even beat out many that were much younger than me. The prize? A $25 gift certificate for dinner at Smugglers Cove, if you were the fastest to unwrap the frozen, twisted winterfest t-shirt, and put it on. Whoop it up!

You're a BRAT!!!

Soooo, that's the real story!! Sure Mitzi, good cover....Lovely weekend indeed!!! Is this an annual event in Newaygo, "Winterfest"? What is it about?

Okay everyone....have your fun :)

Winterfest is put on by the chamber of commerce. Different activities during the week. With a chili cook off, fishing contest, extreme plunge, ice bowling, fly-in, motorcycle races on the ice, frozen t-shirt contest, ect. on Saturday at Smugglers Cove on Hess Lake and a dinner/dance on Saturday night....just to get people out and having fun in the community. The chamber uses it as a fund raiser for their different financial/promotional needs. Alot of great prizes are given away by our generous local merchants.

Heads up all you river fans! Newaygo will be hosting the National Canoe and Kayak races in August 2011.

Yesterday sunny and 79, today sunny and 82. All the trees and flowers are coming into bloom due to our winter rain. Earthquake last night 4.4 on the Richter scale. No damage luckily.

Oh, I gotta a "new to me" car (used).... I'll be touring the town in a silver PT Cruiser.. it's alot of fun. Time to shed the mommy van!! Now, that's exciting news!!!;)

SNOW DAY! it's back..............Happy Spring!

Paula congratulations on your new car. I always liked the way the PT Cruiser looks.

Living with the threat of earthquakes is a lot like living with the threat of tornados. The largest since we moved here was a 5.6 about 1-1/2 years ago. I am on the 7th floor of our building. It was rocking back and forth, hard enough that doors were opening and shutting by themselves. The windows were shaking in their frames in the building next door. No damage though from that one. Epicenter was 12 miles away.

Most earthquakes aren't large enough to feel. I hope we don't experience 'the big one'. Of course the oceanfront property might be nice....

OK, that was interesting. My wife and I were at the golf course. I was trying to make a putt and started to get dizzy, I thought. 7.2 quake in Mexico. That one went on for 20-30 seconds.

Went to Palm Springs for the weekend and woke up at 2:30AM. 4.2 aftershock

Was watching TV at 10:30 last night, 2.7 just outside LA.

All the earthquakes and volcanoes are making me nervous!

Let's just smell the Spring flowers and forget some of the troubles....just for a moment...and then it will be a quick snap back to reality :)
