Anne Moore (Hutton)

I was privileged to have seen Joanna shortly before she died. She had come to New York for a brief visit with a relative and had contacted me thorugh an online search. We had not spoken or corresponded since our 25th reunion. I met her at a cafe for lunch and had little trouble recognizing her. We chatted warmly for several minutes about our lives since high school--the travel, the men, the careers-- before she confessed that she really couldn't see me. She was nearly blind. Her life before her sight failed had been filled with adventure: she had been all over the world as a writer, had lived in many different places and had had several relationships with interesting men.

We followed each other on Facebook for a while after that, but when I didn't hear from her I didn't worry. Alterall, we had picked up where we left off before with no trouble. Then a few months ago I heard the shocking news of her death. I cried.

Now I find myself smiling as I write this: she had had such a full and unique life. It might not have lasted long enough, but it was a good life.
