The news of Lynn Barbagallo Phalan's death was especially hard-hitting.  I had so enjoyed our visits during our 45th and 50th reunions.  In fact, we sat at the same table at our 50th, although our seats (across from one another) did not allow us to chat until after dinner.  I had been especially touched by Lynn's classmate profile where she described her bouts with cancer and her abiding faith in God.  We had E-mailed a few times before the reunion, so it was easy to take up where we'd left off.  What I will always remember about Lynn was her positive outlook, her multiple talents, and the keen interest she took in me and so many of her classmates.

Some of you may recall that, during her first two or three years of high school, Lynn lived in a house on 98th Avenue just down from BOD.  I would often walk with her on the way to catching my bus home to San Leandro.  It was during our bus ride to the 50th reunion dinner that I looked for her house to no avail.  When I questioned Lynn, she told me it had long ago been demolished in the name of progress.  I can still see its white stucco and yellow trim.

Strangely, it was only a few weeks before Lynn's death that I had E-mailed Pat Freitas suggesting an all-girls' get-together at a beach on the Central Coast.  I named a few girls I thought would be nice to invite and Lynn was among them.  I'm only sorry I hadn't acted much sooner.

Lord, grant this kind, effervescent, upbeat friend eternal peace!
