I had intended to enter the Dominican Order and be a teacher after graduation, but then I met Dick Oliver (actually my mother introduced us) and changed directions. We were married at St. Benedict's in Oakland in November, 1960.
I ended up teaching anyway after the children came, starting with 6th grade CCD at St. Bede's in Hayward, then religious education at St. Anne's Sunday Program in Union City. We moved to Our Lady of the Rosary parish where I was a catechist for at least twenty five years. I worked in the RCIA program for adults and then with 5th graders.
A lifetime member of Girl Scouts, I accompanied my daughter's troop to England in 2003 for the worldwide scouting event at Windsor. I look back over many fun times backpacking and camping with the Scouts and with my kids and grandkids. (Dick preferred not to take part in this as his idea of camping out is room service.) He turned out to be pretty good husband and father. He does the cooking for us most of the time and brings me coffee in the morning. One of our family traditions is Dick's cioppino at Christmas.
Dick is a real estate broker as am I (over 30 years in the business). We work together, he sells property and I specialize in home loans. Call for great rates and service!
Joyce Edgar, if you see this, get in touch as I think about you and our times at St. Louis Bertrand and O'Dowd. It's been such a pleasure meeting up recently with friends we knew all those years ago.
