After three years at O’Dowd, I graduated from Tennyson High School in Hayward. In 1961 I joined the US Air Force. For the next 21 years I served as an electronic technician in Oregon, Goose Bay Labrador, California, Oklahoma, Texas, Germany and Alaska. When I retired from the AF I completed my associate’s degree and worked in Alaska for 21 more years. My final 13 years there were at the Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
In 1963 I married Nancy Richard from St. Bede’s parish where I had earlier coached CYO basketball. We celebrated 47 years together last July at Lake Tahoe where we spent our honeymoon.
Nancy and I moved to Minden, NV, in 2004 where the winters are a bit milder than central Alaska. We have many opportunities to visit family and friends in the Bay Area. We return to Alaska frequently to visit friends there as well as our younger daughter and her family, including two grandchildren born in Fairbanks. We often travel to the Mid West to visit our older daughter near Scott AFB, IL, and our son outside Chicago. A favorite overseas destination is Australia, although we enjoy travel nearly anywhere.
I like to play golf and keep up with the Giants, A’s, Raiders and 49er’s. My volunteer time is at a local golf course and for the annual parish rummage sale (which grossed $62,000+ this year!)
