Perhaps we might engender some partiipation -- trying again. Gary and I had an exchange which some of our other classmates might join in to make it more meaningful?
Gary: "What do you think about this malady that is on our minds? I said it at our "50th reunion " We were in high school at a golden age compared to what is now. The blockade from Russia to Cuba, the Vietnam War debacle, Riots . We managed to navigate through those times, what do we do now with a bug so to speak. Regards, Gary"
Dan: "I agree Gary, we lived in simpler times, or is it that we just see all of the ills of the world, the crap we either ignored or were ignorant of when we were young?
The continual indoctrination by the Socialists against all of us, particularly our youth is very troubling. There aren’t enough voices out there bringing all of these sick ideas to the forefront. I particularly like a few who try to keep us thinking straight; such as, Rush Limbaugh (I don’t listen to him every day), Sean Hannity, and one of the most intelligent men around is Mark Levin. There are many more good people who still possess common sense, like Thomas Sowell, Prager, those affiliated with the Hillsdale Collage to name a few. I know there are more; I’m sure you could easily add to the list” I often read inspirational material from the LDS Church leaders, but often they try to stay A-political.
The basic items which (in my view) have been slowly eroding, causing our populace to lose the understanding of the Golden Rule. When we began taking spirituality out of our lives, is when we began seeing more and more vulgarity on the TV and Movie screens, People stopped talking as neighbors, becoming isolated, selfish and detached from one another. We see that now with everyone having their noses stuck in a cell phone, texting.
I recall liking a phrase I heard perhaps fifty years ago, “when we stopped building porches on houses, is when we stopped caring for one another”.
These things started becoming more apparent after our fathers, uncles, neighbors came home from World War II. Everyone just wanted to lay back, be left alone with their families and didn’t want to get involved. Not getting involved with much at all. We stopped getting good debate on civic affairs, allowing the less than stellar talents begin changing our world I noticed this very pointedly in Ogden, since every time I would leave for a couple of years and return for a 30-day visit, I was increasingly depressed with what I saw. The tearing down of old Ogden, replacing the stores with modern malls, losing the personal warmth and friendliness of Ogden. In addition, one thing that struck me years ago, is the ever increasing encroachment of the lower classes of Latinos, turning Ogden into almost a 3rd world country. It all goes back to everyone staying by themselves and not wanting to get involved – the loss of the front porch where neighbors would stroll the neighborhood, visiting with neighbors, keeping abreast of the latest local political news, the sense of concern about your neighbor, knowing their families and caring in general. That has all been gone for a long time.
Now to your point “this malady that is on our minds” Not 100% sure I know what malady you’re referring to, since there are many ills we face today. This Corona-19 virus is, in my view blown way out of proportion, and probably not much different than the influenza we’ve seen for years. In some ways, it appears to be even less dangerous. This isn’t to say we shouldn’t take precautions, but we sure shouldn’t be going crazy over this; such as, buying out all of the toilet paper in the stores, that’s just plain nuts, since Coronoa-19 doesn’t cause diarrhea in the first place. I firmly believe there are political hacks at work here trying to discredit President Trump. This could also be the Chinese, desiring to get rid of him, so they could have someone like Joe Biden in office, going back to taking advantage of us at every turn – literally screwing us as they have since we (Nixon) resumed relations with them in 1972.
Well, my friend, as for other maladies we see, are pretty much tied into what I said above, when we lost our spirituality we lost our ability to care or defend what we have, or used to come together in a common cause of freedom, teaching our youth about the glorious history of our country, the trials, sacrifices and hardships our fore-bearers endured to give us a great nation. The lessons need to be reinforced, not just reinforced but reintroduced.
The immorality, is more than sexual attitudes, the abortions, the gun violence, people attacking one another, road rage etcetera – are all part of what I’m saying In my opinion, the only way we’ll survive is to turn our hearts back to God, once again expressing our thanks, allegiance and love for Him. When we do that, then He (God) will once again bless us more abundantly.
Now Gary, I’m not a religious zealot, but believe this turning our back on God, goes counter to everything we’ve learned and been witness to throughout history – that has to change.
OK, Amigo, you got me turned on, and as you know once I start it’s hard to turn me off! Lol
All the Best
Dan"
