I've resumed writing on my fictional book of a special ops operator, former Navy SEAL, turned CIA special ops. After my son passed away in April of 2016, I was thrown for a loop, losing interest in writing. I'm getting back to it. I will need to have what I write cleared by the Agency before seeking a publisher.. I learned on their site, we're not even supposed to publish newspaper articles without their screening. They want to make sure we don't divulge anything sensitive; such as, the sources used and the methods used in gathering and/or obtaining intelligence information. Since I've been retired almost as long as I worked, most everything I write about would be considered ancient history. I'm sure they won't have much to worry about in my case.
My hero in the book is a guy by the name of Matt Gardiner (my mother's maiden name), born and raised in Ogden, Utah. I'm sure there aren't too many heroes featured in these type of stories who are born in Ogden, Utah.
My writing is based on some of my experiences; albeit, amplified and glamorized. Traveling the world, the store of various cultural experience is quite large. I'll have to get back with it, believing I need to write for therapy. I enjoy writing, yet see where I'm getting rusty -- grammar and spelling is suffering. If any of you former school teachers, or those who know our language well, see any glaring issues, please drop me a line, offering some constructive criticism.
This reminds me of the students in high school English class being asked to write some poetry. When they had all submitted their work, the teacher had each come to the desk for a semi-private critique or to give praise. In one case, she told a student: "What you need is a little more fire in your poetry, or vice versa"; this could very well be so in my case.
