Beverly Brown (Purser)

I my eye is about the same I am going to have surgery on Thursday to have them fix it again. They will take a graph of fat and skin tissue off my stomach and put it in my eye socket to build it up so that I can get a prosthesis. The doctor said it could take 2 to 3 months to heal enough before I have the prosthesis put on my eye. I really enjoy reading about the different things that everyone is doing. Please pray for me that everything will work out right this time. My daughter asked the doctor if it didn't what then. He said we will just keep trying until it works. So I hope it works the first time.

Hey Gary ..if you speak to Bob please tell him my prayers are with him..as I'm sure everyone else.                                                                                                                                                                                                         Oh Beverly I really hate what you are going through.  I will for sure have you in my thoughts Thurs.                                                                                                                                                                                                       And yes Gary I am a mean old cat lady  LOL LOL                    Heres another silly story from Ruth.  My little black cat is all day crying to get outside  (maybe thats where she grew up??)   My storm door does NOT latch properly and so she bangs on it all the time trying to get out..  Since we have fox, coyotes and racoons , I don't dare let her out.   My daughters dog had a coyote jump on it while they were sitting in the front yard.  Soooo one evening I dozed off on the couch and all of a sudden I hear the MOST terrifying, blood curdling screams from the cat.  I flew to the door fully expecting to beat up a racoon or or coyote  (could you just see how I would do that?)...Alas she just had here paw caught in the door.  ARGGGGHHHH  Good thing the old pace maker is working well  LOL

I was working in a bar and went down to open alone. I had everything ready and all of a sudden I had this overpowering sense of get out of here! I did of course until the customers came. Never happened again and spent many times alone and never bothered.

This happened in the basement of the old Browning building where the bar was located thus the name of the bar. I have asked around and from what I gathered it might be the old janitor. Most people don't know it's even there anymore.

Well, here I am on Halloween waiting for the little kiddies to come around. In Omaha, the neighborhood had about 1500 kids come but here, 1 or 2.

So sorry to hear of all the rough times many of you have had.  May God bless you all.

November 22, 1963, I was 3 days into living in Guatemala City when the house mother came at lunch and told us the news.  I was devastated.

Lynn, are you living in Omaha now?  A very good friend my my Navy days was from Omaha.

Guatamala,  how many earth quakes did you experience in your time there, Lynn?

I just read this bit on wikipedia, which is interesting:

"Earthquakes are relatively frequent occurrences in Guatemala. The country lies in a major fault zone known as the Motagua and Chixoy-Polochic fault complex, which cuts across Guatemala and forms the tectonic boundary between the Caribbean plate and the North American plate. In addition, along Guatemala's western coast line, the Cocos plate pushes against the Caribbean plate, forming a subduction zone known as the Middle America Trench located approximately 50 km off Guatemala's Pacific coast."

Happy New Year Classmates.  I just wanted to say a few words and wish everyone the best for 2020.

Gary Acker corresponds with me often which I appreciate his keeping me in mind and providing updates on the class once-in-awhile.

Our Dear Ruth Young Adams, contributes occasionally, which is also appreciated.  She chats or has some exchanges on facebook as well.  It’s always a pleasure, Ruth.

Ol’ Dan is still doing well, remaining active, doing some writing, and my wife has a pad of paper, titled “Honey Do List”.  I keep busy, but am thankful (not just on Thanksgiving) to have the health and energy to keep going.  Albeit, my body tells me often that I’m not 35 anymore.  I, like I’m sure many of you, take a handful of pills in the morning; food supplements, a blood thinner and a small tablet to prevent gout.  Other than that, I’m doing pretty darned good. I have a few comebacks in response to people asking how I’m doing.  When a young person at a checkout stand says “how are you”, I say “It depends on what we’re comparing to.  If I felt the way I do now at your age, I wouldn’t be worth a darn, but for an old guy, I’m doing pretty good – thanks for asking”.

Now having said that, I know some of you are probably not fairing as well, for which I am sorry.  Getting old is definitely not for sissies – Right?

OK, guys and gals, let’s make this the decade of “Roaring Twenties”, that we may have as much fun as they did in the 1920’s.

Do any of you classmates remember when and the BL ON the mountain was a W,and Ogden high made it into an O so our guys went up and made it into a BL? if so do you remember who it was. I think Andrews was one of those guys, do you you remember any of the others? Just curious.

I recall when the BLHS was put up high on the foot hill, but thought it was in addition to the W.  I don't actually recall it supplanting the W. I do rcall some of the guys (not me) went up, believe before a homecoming game and lighted up the BLHS  I seem to recall the class a couple years ahead of us were the ones who actually put up the BLHS,  When lite up it could be seen all over the valley -- that was neat.  I agree, I seem to recall Boyd Andrews being one of the oranizers, but not sure who all particiipated.

I remember when the BLHS was first put up on the mountain.  I was so proud.  Then,  Ogden HS changed our BLHS to an O. It is separate from the W which is there on occasion. Weber State has a stylized W way south near their campus where I live..  They must haul some equipment up the hill during homecoming week because it lights up with electricity very brightly.  My neighbor lady use to work for the engineering and Tech dept and said that years ago they had a very big thing they would haul up the hill but can't remember what it was. She is almost 90 now.

I can't recall seeing a BL on the hillside lately.

Dan, I haven't lived in Omaha for 5 years now. Thanks for the info on Guatemala.  The only eathquakes I was involved in was not in Guatemala but El Salvador and centered on Lago Ilopango, a lake formed by a sunken volcano crater a few miles south of San Salvador.  Over 700 died because the adobe bricks were not glued together, just laid one on top of another.  So, the people were crushed by the falling walls. That's one way to eliminate the poorer sections of town. The Catholic Cathedral downtown had a bell tower a hundred feet tall and it was really ringing through it all.  We were glad the tower didn't fall down.

This is the link for Krista Thompson's page, where she has been posting obiuraries for people who attended Ben Lomond over the years.  I haven't figured how to go to a specific years, but believe the listing are by year of birth and/or year of graduation.  In our case, you might have to scroll down quite aways to see people of our time.

Two guys, one old and one young,  are pushing their carts around Wal-Mart   when they collide.  The old guy says to the young guy,   " Sorry about that.  I'm looking for my wife,   and I guess I   wasn't paying attention  to where I was going."

The young guy says, "That's OK, it's a  coincidence.   I'm looking for my wife, too...I can't find her and I'm getting a little   desperate."

The old guy says,   "Well, maybe I can help you find her…    What does she look like?"

The young guy says, "Well, she is 27 years old, tall,   with red hair,   blue eyes, is buxom...wearing no bra,   long legs,   and is wearing short shorts.   What does   your   wife look like? "

To which the old guy says, "Doesn't   matter,   --- let's look for yours."

The older we get the fewer things   seem worth waiting in line for.
(Mostly because we forgot why we were waiting in line in the first place.)

Thanks Dan for the humor to start the day. Been there and done that. Just wondering, are you the old gentleman in the story?

'Chuckling, Dave. It could very well have been me.  I often enter a store, often Walmart, and my wife takes off,and is all over the store before I get past the vegetable isle. One time, with people around, I said "I've lost my wife", to which a guy said "you're a lucky man"! Another time, I said the same thing, and some woman said "Don't worry there are plenty more where she came from". In each case, everyone around chuckles and spirits are lifted.

Seriously, I love my wife very much and she loves me.  I'm the luckiest guy in the world and life doesn't get any better than this.

Thanks for the acknowledgement and comment, Dave.
