My third son is a Houston Texas Police Dept. (HPD) Sergeant working in homocide. He's been on duty 24/7 ever since the mess in Minnesota, and that because the dead man is a felon from Houston (who relocated in Minnesota after a string of serious crimes in Houston) and will be buried there. The strategy Houston Cops used to control the looting and burning and general chaos caused by rioters and Antifa folks was this; the police were instructed to allow the loudest and disruptive rioter to scream his/her lungs out for a short while, then cops nearest the screamer eased in around him, grabbed and handcuffed him and immediately loaded him/her up in a waiting paddie wagon. The first night of rioting in Houston, over 200 individual thugs were acosted this way and the second night over 300 using the same strategy. It's gone on for several nights but with less arrests -now to clarify just a bit, you see the loudest thugs in the crowd were allowed to blow off plenty of steam but not enough to enlist other thugs standing in the vicinity to get too riled up and start burning and breaking into business etc. The instigators were all snatched up by a show of intelligent planning, organization and force. It's still scary for any cop to face a screaming rock throwing mob especially when outnumbered twenty to one.

Just a few months ago Houston cops effedtively handled a similar large roit situation at the Galleria Mall area, (a huge high-end shopping district located west center of the Houston business district) and they did it with horses. The mobs had assembled to stop normal business flow from happening in the Galleria, and the horse-mounted policeman simply waded into the crowd, horse and all ! effectively sending rioters running pell-mell away from the area. Policemen on foot then gathered up the more stubborn of the thugs individually similarly to the way they are being handled in downtown Houston at present.

My policeman son has a lovely wife and four frightened children who haven't seen much of their dad during the past several days.Their father has been downtown being spit upon, screamed at, hit with rocks and blatently disrespected for hours on end. Quite frankly he's exhausted and yet like all involved policemen coast to coast expected to take the crap the mobs dish out, and turn the other cheek for several days yet. --

There were over 70,000 people gathered at Houston City Hall on June 3rd along with the mother of the deceased Minnesota felon, (she asked for peace) also a few government dignitaries and the gathering was generally peaceful. -- But there's more to come, because the thugs, and rioters, like all low life's don't crawl out their holes until after dark. --

Steve I just read your post and it makes me furious! My brother is a retired lieutenant from the Ogden Police Dept and I'm so glad that he's not on those police lines on the streets. I had no idea that your son was on the lines in Huston my the Lord keep him safe from the professional thugs that lead this crap. Our left news never acknowledge the hard work that our cops do without a break. So much more I'd like to say but it might not be suitable for our page here. Bless your son and family Steve! Talk to you soon buddy.

I echo Gary's comments, Steve.  I am keeping your son, and all of these good men in my prayers, a special one for your boy.

Their strategy sounds like an excellent way to weed out the ring leaders -- very good.

I was in a Starbucks Coffee recently when my stomach started rumbling and I realized that I desperately needed to fart.  The place was packed, but the music was really loud so to get relief and reduce embarrassment I timed my farts to the beat of the music.  After a couple of songs I started to feel much better.  I finished my coffee and noticed that everyone was staring at me.  I suddenly remembered that I was listening to my Ipod (with ear piece) - and how was your day?

Steve, Your son is a brave man. I think Texas leaders and police have the right ideas. I used to visit my dtr in Houston and I learned "Don't Mess With Texas"!

06/15/20 11:18 PM #936

Gary Acker

Its definitely a tough situation for Steve's son and ALL the other officers Karen. I got out of the National Gard in 71 after Kent State and it chilled me to think about what I would have to do with the unrest about Vietnam. Our country is in a bad spot at this time. What do you think about the stuff in Seattle Karen?

06/16/20 11:18 AM #937

Daniel Hutchinson

Gary you posed the question to Karen, however I'd like to comment about Seattle.  In short, it is insurrection or sedition, which is illegal, and should not stand.  To allow it to go on will only feed the cancer, and it will surely spread.  They, the U.S. Govt law inforcement should put it down now, it has already gone on too long.

06/16/20 01:34 PM #938

Gary Acker

Your right Dan, that was meant to be a general question for all. I agree with you totally they have become so "progressive" up there it's crazy, have you heard the mayor!

06/16/20 06:01 PM #939

Daniel Hutchinson

The problem is the progressive left are laying a trap for Trump, which he's well aware of.  If he sends in the troops and they start knocking heads, it will be a huge win for the Democrat/Left.  It's a delicate issue, but will be dealt with; I'm just not sure yet how.

06/16/20 06:26 PM #940

Karen Peterson (Belliston)

Gary, my thoughts on Seattle are it's disgusting! I can't believe what these protesters/terrorists are getting away with. I feel very angry at what's going on in our cities. "Freedom of speech" has gotten way out of hand. I wish policemen could just do their job and not worry about "offending" someone, no matter what color.

06/16/20 10:05 PM #941

Gary Acker

We all seem to be in the same camp on this Seattle farce,Karen and Dan along with most of our classmates if I may be so bold. Like you Dan I haven't figured out what to do but how about this angle. Let them burn themselves out, like the one 1%ers.The mayor may be wrong but let's see. I noticed both "where are the police and a police free zone signs in the same place? What about food and medical help πŸ€”. The outside do-gooders will only give for so long and then reality bites. Thank you for the forum to speak to my friends who I have known. "Keep the faith " as we used to say.

06/16/20 11:52 PM #942

Karen Peterson (Belliston)

I posted something on Facebook tonight, but I'll bet it won't get circulated because it isn't politically correct. I'm SO SICK of the protesters. And, you know, they are a small minority of the general public. Why do city leaders and the media give them so much attention and cave to their demands? And what really ticked me off tonight on the news was that some students at BYU want to rename the Abraham O. Smoot Building because they learned he once had a slave! It doesn't matter all the good he did, he had a slave back in the mid-1800s!

I think I'm going to need a sedative so I can sleep tonight!

06/17/20 11:22 AM #943

Gary Acker

Good heavens Karen, I didn't know that about re-naming the building at BYU! Our political correct language is the "newspeak" of our lives. Remember the book 1984? My dear departed friend made that comment years ago. I didn't realize that this madness had hit the church. I'm not even LDS but that makes me mad!

06/17/20 11:43 AM #944

Gary Acker

P.S.Karen,I'm used to using a lot stronger words to describe the situation but I won't here.

06/17/20 11:58 AM #945

Gary Acker

One more thing Karen and I will stop bugging you. Listen to Ben Shapiro Young Americans. He might be better than a sedative.

06/17/20 04:01 PM #946

Karen Peterson (Belliston)

Thanks, Gary. I decided today that I've got to quit getting so emotionally involved! And I remember reading the book "1984." It sounded so crazy and impossible at the time!

06/17/20 06:23 PM #947

Gary Acker

Your OK Karen πŸ‘Œ. I have been out mowing and thinking about this crap. Have you heard or looked up Ben Shapiro? It will help. Take care and keep the blood pressure stable.

I want to wish all of you gentlemen a Happy Father's Day.

For all of you, this is something I received from a dear Jewish friend in Bolivia. I thought many of you would appreciate it?

"A WINTER FRIEND

This article is so befitting for all of us... take time to ponder... the last statement cannot be refuted:-

I FIRST STARTED READING THIS EMAIL AND WAS READING FAST UNTIL I REACHED THE THIRD SENTENCE. I STOPPED THEN AND STARTED OVER, READING SLOWER, AND THINKING ABOUT EVERY WORD... IT MAKES YOU STOP AND THINK.

So, please READ SLOWLY!

AND THEN IT IS WINTER

You know time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems like yesterday that I was young, just married, and embarking on my new life with my mate. Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all those years went.

I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams. But, here it is... the winter of my life, and it catches me by surprise... How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where did my youth go? I remember well seeing older people through the years and thinking that those "older people" were years away from me and that winter was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like.

But, here it is...my friends are retired and getting grey... they move slower and I see an older person in myself now. Some are in better and some worse shape than me... but, I see the great change... Not like the ones that I remember who were young and vibrant...but, like me, their age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we'd be.

Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day! And taking a nap is not a treat anymore... it's mandatory! Cause if I don't on my own free will... I just fall asleep where I sit!

And so... now I enter this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things that I wish I had done but never did!! But, at least I know, that though the winter has come, and I'm not sure how long it will last... this I know, that when it's over on this earth... it's over. A new adventure will begin!

Yes, I have regrets. There are things I wish I hadn't done... things I should have done, but indeed, there are also many things I'm happy to have done. It's all in a lifetime.

So, if you're not in your winter yet... let me remind you, that it will be here faster than you think. So, whatever you would like to accomplish in your life, please do it quickly! Don't put things off too long!! Life goes by quickly. So, do what you can TODAY, as you can never be sure whether this is your winter or not!

You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life... so, LIVE FOR TODAY and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember.. and hope that they appreciate and love you for all the things that you have done for them in all the years past!!

"Life" is a GIFT to you. The way you live your life is your gift to those who come after. Make it a fantastic one.

Remember: "It is Health that is real Wealth and not pieces of gold and silver."

~Your kids are becoming you......but your grandchildren are perfect!

~Going out is good.. coming home is even better!

~You forget names... but it's OK, because other people forgot they even knew you!!!

~You realize you're never going to be really good at anything.... especially golf.

~The things you used to care to do, you no longer care to do, but you really do care that you don't care to do them anymore.

~You sleep better on a lounge chair with the TV blaring than in bed. It's called "pre-sleep."

~You miss the days when everything worked with just an "ON" and "OFF" switch..

~You tend to use more 4 letter words ... "what?"..."when?"...???

~Now that you can afford expensive jewelry, it's not safe to wear it anywhere.

~You notice everything they sell in stores is "sleeveless?!"

~What used to be freckles are now liver spots.

~Everybody whispers.

~You have 3 sizes of clothes in your closet.... 2 of which you will never wear.

~But "Old" is good in some things:

Old Songs, Old movies ...

and best of all, our dear ...OLD FRIENDS!!

Stay well, "OLD FRIEND!"

Thank you Dan, I too would like to wish all of our classmates a Happy Fathers Day. The time has gone so very fast since we were in school. A few years ago, I did not think of myself as an old man, but things happen in our lives that have a way of humbleing us and let us know that we are not invincable. Sometimes the winter of our lives comes on very fast and leaves us wondering where autumn went, mostly because we were enjoying it so much. Most of the things mentioned in your post have come to pass in this winter of my life. I would like to thank all of you who participate on this forum for your stories, your humor, your insight and for keeping the forum going. I don't post very often, but I do read and enjoy all of the posts and responces. I'll try to do better at contributing.
