I don't know how many of you are fans of Michael Moore, I was NOT. He has come around to the real world on the Green products and propaganda. Naturally its follow the money 💰. My brother-in-law worked on the solar powered boilers for Electrical power backed up with natural gas power of course. It cost us a BUNCH. Look at the videos on utube, they're under Michael Moore. Give it a shot. Of course I think that I am preaching to the choir.

Installment two

When referring to life after this, I can tell you beyond a doubt there is life after this, since my near death experience, I had a glimpse of the other side.  I’ve mentioned this before.

Regardless of your faith Judaism, Christianity and other Eastern religions, we enjoy many similar examples of there being a higher power.  Some variance exists in the interpretation, yet the commonalities are many.

Being raised in the LDS faith, going back to the three degrees of glory, could be viewed as something we should just take on faith and believe without question.  Again, the meat of my comments, If God gave us intelligence, the ability to reason, search and question, why then must we simply always take these things on faith without some questions.  I do not believe what I’m saying here is blasphemous, rather following our natural curiosity, using our ‘God given’ intelligence.  The Scientific world says ‘in the Milky way Galaxy alone there are probably 10,000 other worlds capable of sustaining life as we know it.  Imagine for a moment, compounding this by hundreds, thousands of galaxies.

Why then would our being assigned to another orb, world according to how we faired in the tests given to us here on Earth.  Were we good, bad or mediocre?  Why then would it be a stretch of the imagination to think we might be assigned to any one of the worlds in the universe?  We are given some guidance about the blessings or lack thereof after this life, which makes sense.  For instance we are told the Sons of perdition will be cast into outer darkness.  The very evil doers, in my view could be assigned to an orb less advanced than here; such as, starting all over as a Neanderthal, depending on the degree of evilness, somewhere at a lower level to atone for their miss-deeds.  Whereas, those who are righteous, remain wholesome, pure of heart and live good lives could (probably will) be assigned to an orb where God himself resides, or one of equal advancement and beauty.

My learned brother-in-law, a good man, believes after we leave this life, only the energy will remain.  He does not believe we’ll have the same resurrected physical body as we do now.  This idea still leaves one to ask – ‘then what’?  What remains, what happens next?  I do believe, rather know after being visited from the other side, we will have bodies recognizable and in the prime of life.  During my brief visit, I saw a group of about 20 people, dressed in robes.  They were about 30 feet away, murmuring among themselves.  A young woman of about 35 came near me from the group, and communicated with me without speaking, and told me “it isn’t your time yet, we will watch over you, and you will get well".  I never felt anxious or fear, rather a peacefulness in the knowledge that life goes on after this life.

OK, my friends, this has been long enough, you all know I could go on for another five or six pages, I’ll spare you now.  Leaving you with a couple of questions:  What do you believe life is after this?  Where do you think we’ll go?

I have more thoughts regarding who is right and who is wrong, religion wise, but that’s a topic for another time.

May the good Lord bless all of you.  May he keep you safe from this Dred Corona 19 Virus.  Stay safe and healthy

If I don’t receive any feedback from anyone other than Gary, I’ll make this my last posting.

Installment One

Hello Everybody,’

Ol’ Dan hasn’t been saying too much.  Gary Acker and I have occasional exchanges via email, but other than that there isn’t much interaction with the BLHS group.  I suppose Karen was right, “people just aren’t interested”.  I’ve had a few thoughts rolling around in my head and thought I’d make one more attempt to get some feedback; that is, other than Gary; even though I value Gary’s input and conversation.

I’ve often thought about Janet Eller’s remarks regarding religion a few years ago.  I’ve mentioned my offering some comments a few times, and think it’s about time.

As most of you know I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS), holding the Priesthood of High Priest, which was conferred upon me in Asuncion, Paraguay, by a good friend, who was born in Tremonton, Utah.  He and I both worked for the CIA, posted to Paraguay.  I’ve mentioned him before, David Calderwood.  David has written a very interesting book entitled Voices From the Dust, a very in-depth and detailed search into the records of the ancients of South America. David began collecting old manuscripts, mostly written by Jesuit Priests several hundred years ago.  Some of the manuscripts are one of a kind.  David even traveled to Seville, Spain, the largest repository of such manuscripts in the world, learning several of his are indeed one of a kind.  Some written in local native languages, which he has learned so he could translate them.  David served a mission to Uruguay back  in about 1957.  There is much about David I could share, but my main point isn’t to discuss David’s book or the fact he is a very spiritual man, an interesting, affable, wonderful person.  My lead in here is to discuss some of my personal thoughts/views about why we’re here, where we’re going and how it all works; that is, from a scientific and religious point of view.

It is not my intention to delve into strange occult type thinking, rather to stimulate some thinking and illicit comments.

I recall a Psychology professor once making the comment that “religion satisfies adults with the same need for a hero, a need for fantasy to cling to, much the same as children need Santa Clause, The Wizard of OZ, Cinderella, Super Man, etcetera..  I’ve never believed this idea, but it is an interesting thought leading me into a couple other areas not normally discussed.

Many of you are well traveled, having been exposed to different cultures and religions: however, I wonder how many have had the time, or inclination to delve into what makes people believe what they believe, how societies have evolved anthropologically.  I’m not a scholar, realizing many of you are perhaps more educated along these line than I.  I would relish seeing some feedback and/or input from those who have studied these things.

As an example, when we see these cute little ornaments of angles with wings, or similar customs which have evolved over thousands of years, it has caused me to question and try to analyze  these things.  It’s obvious to me that during the ancient times when it was improper for scribes to take notes while someone was talking, resulting at times in lengthy delays, even years after something was observed or a speech heard, before it was written down.  During the Biblical scribes recording visitations from above(?).  We see many examples in the Bible, Numbers, Job, Isaiah Jeremiah (several), Hosea, Micah, to name a few.  In those ancient times a scribe hearing of how the heavenly personages ascended from above, the only logical explanation is ‘they must have flown’, thus ‘wings’ were given, otherwise how could they have come from above?  Logically, to many of us, this is an example of the rather infantile reasoning.  We have never seen a depiction of God, Jesus or other angels of old sporting wings.  If we are created in the image of God and He didn’t have wings why would anyone?  There were no wings folks.

Now I’m going to post this in two installments, because it is lengthy.  In the LDS Church, we are told after leaving this moral existence, depending on our works and deeds, we will be assigned to one of three ‘Degrees of Glory’.  This takes me to the meat of my following comments – continued in installment two.

Parry Willard

To my friend Danny:

Thanks for opening your heart to share your experience and very personal feelings. I don't come to the BLHS site often, or for a while. Your last post grabbed me, but I feel like I missed part of the story.  Would you consider telling more of your near death experience, or share with me on email.  I also feel comfortable and peaceful about moving into the next life.  Having studied my family history a great deal, I'm anxious to meet my ancestors--(I've got a lot of questions).  Again thanks for your post.  Parry

Thanks Parry,  it's getting late now but will give some more thought to this, and would enjoy hearing about some of what you've learned of your family.

Thank you too Gary for your email -- always interesting to read your input.

What you said Parry about being anxious to meet your departed family.  In my near death experience, I wasn't told but had the strong feeling that the group of approximatley 20, men and women who came out of a side room, stood about 30 feet away looking at me and as I said 'murmering', obviously about me.  I had the sense they were all departed family members.  I had the feeling the woman who came near me,might have been a great or great-great grandmother, family in any event.  This is pure speculation, only a feeling I had.

I'm sure we have others of our classmates who could relate some intesting stories as well.

Has anyone heard or do you know if Todd Maltby bounced back from his stroke?  How is he doing?

Gary Acker

Not a word around here, not even Jerry Hill and he knows everybody. Of course Todd lives in SLC I hadn't seen him in at least 30 years until the last reunion. If I do I'll post it.

Steven Nielsen

All, Please do keep us posted on Todd! -- Here's an update on Kenny Frew and Bonnie Monson Frew; due to an accident Ken broke a couple of ribs and an X-ray of the area revealed a dark mass around one kidney, surgery was immediately ordered but to get at the kidney first of all physicians had to get through a herniated area. The diseased kidney was completely removed and the hernia also repaired. The ribs were just bruised. - Kenny and Bonnie recently lost a daughter and are now raising her beautiful little boy, a little blonde guy about 2 or 3 and cute as a bug and full of mischief. The trio had only recently moved back into their remodled home (which had been horribly damaged in a flood) and despite their recent troubles, quite frankly, you never saw such a blessed and happy little family and they're a joy to visit. Kenny is on the mend and I'll let you know any updates.

As Hutch reminds us, Laughter is the best medicine; here's a little humor, The story goes that Buggs Bunny opened his refridgerator to get a carrot and there's Elmer Fudd curled up inside. "What are you doing in my refridgerator? Buggs demanded. "Isn't this a Westinghouse?" answered Fudd.

Sorry I haven't posted in a long while, love you all and doin' my best to stay alive. Honestly I'm having a hard time getting used to retirement; home updates, garden, family, friends and writing... I have no idea how I ever had time to work!

Thank you so much for filling us in on Bonnie and Ken.I think a lot of you guys grew up down there at the Shupe addition, I know Pete Crompton did. Do you remember when Kenny used to race down at the fairgrounds in SLC? Please keep us posted on how their doing, I think that's what our forum is all about. Sounds like your staying busy on your new homestead, is it better than Huston or are you ready to back. Be safe buddy.

Tod Maltby

I am still alive & kickin'. The stroke really beat me up but I regained most of my faculties except speech. I still see a speech therapist on a regular basis but I still have some problems. I don't socialize much because people associate my slurred speech with other mental deficiencies. The stroke never affected me mentally, I just couldn't speak or write. Not being able to communicate is a BITCH!

Gary Acker

Damn Maltby its good to hear from you! I guess you picked up on the fact that we were concerned about you. Remember when we used to climb what we called the little Matterhorn in the canyon? Good to hear from you buddy sorry about the speech thing, I watched it with my dad and grandfather. Keep on keepen on.

Yes, Todd, it is great to see your response.  I've asked several times for an update, but as with most of the posts here I've received little to no response.

Hearing that your congnative abilities are intact is certainly good news.  I've had you in my prayers for some time now, and can see with the prayers of many, they've been answered - what a great relief to see you here.  Thanks Todd for taking the time to let us know.  Incidentially, if you would include a phone number or one of someone who can give us an update from time-to-time, that would be nice for us to know.

May the good Lord continue to bless you in your recovery.

Good evening classmates. Any of you still live on the Wasatch front, we had a bit of a breeze. I've been cleaning cutting trees at my house and have helped some of the neighbors. Power outages are just plain uncomfortable. If any of you folks have been affected by this wind but let us know. Regards, Gary

I know I had said I was not going to post any more, since it seems there isn't enough interest to respond; I couldn't resist this one:

"First Date

This is probably the funniest first date story ever, first date or not!!! We have all had bad dates but this takes the cake.

Jay Leno went into the audience to find the most embarrassing first date that a woman ever had. The winner described her worst first date experience.

There was absolutely no question as to why her tale took the prize!

She said it was midwinter...snowing and quite cold... and the guy had taken her skiing in the mountains outside Salt Lake City, Utah.

It was a day trip (no overnight). They were strangers, after all, and had never met before. The outing was fun but relatively uneventful until they were headed

home late that afternoon.

They were driving back down the mountain, when she gradually began to realize that she should not have had that extra latte !! They were about an hour away

from anywhere with a rest room and in the middle of nowhere! Her companion suggested she try to hold it, which she did for a while.

Unfortunately, because of the heavy snow and slow going, there came a point here she told him that he had better stop and let her go beside the road, or it

would be the front seat of his car.

They stopped and she quickly crawled out beside the car, yanked her pants down and started. In the deep snow she didn't have good footing, so she let her

butt rest against the rear fender to steady herself. Her companion stood on the side of the car watching for traffic and indeed was a real gentleman and refrained from peeking. All she could think about was the relief she felt despite the rather embarrassing

nature of the situation.

Upon finishing however, she soon became aware of another sensation. As she bent to pull up her pants, the young lady discovered her buttocks were firmly glued

against the car's fender. Thoughts of tongues frozen to poles immediately came to mind as she attempted to disengage her flesh from the icy metal. It was quickly apparent that she had a brand new problem, due to the extreme cold.

Horrified by her plight and yet aware of the humor of the moment, she answered her date's concerns about' what is taking so long' with a reply that indeed,

she was 'freezing her butt off' and in need of some assistance! He came around the car as she tried to cover herself with her sweater and then, as she looked imploringly into his eyes, he burst out laughing. She too, got the giggles and when they finally managed

to compose themselves, they assessed her dilemma. Obviously, as hysterical as the situation was, they also were faced with a real problem.

Both agreed it would take something hot to free her chilly cheeks from the grip of the icy metal! Thinking about what had gotten her into the predicament

in the first place, both quickly realized that there was only one way to get her free. So, as she looked the other way, her first time date proceeded to unzip his pants and pee her butt off the fender.

As the audience screamed in laughter, she took the Tonight Show prize hands down. Or perhaps that should be 'pants down'. And you thought your first date was

embarrassing. Jay Leno's comment..... 'This gives a whole new meaning to being pissed off.'

Oh and how did the first date turn out? He became her husband and was sitting next to her on the Leno show.

If you laughed at this pass it on.

Remember, if you haven't got a smile on your face and laughter in your heart, then you are just a old sour puss.

"Have a great day, unless you've made other plans".
