HAPPY EASTER. It's beautiful, cool, and raining in Ogden.  Hopefully, some of our classmates have a beautiful, warm, and sunny day for an outdoor easter egg hunt.

If anyone is trying to call me, I have a new number: 385-389-9148. I have a hard time with the phone because my hearing has gotten  so bad. best to text me or email: tod@utahan.org.

I lost my phone at my sister funeral earlier this month and it has quite an ordeal! I have to use a particular phone because it has to connect with my CGI (constant glucose monitor)

P.S. A friend in Bolivia -- an American and fellow Mason, sent this link -- I'm always amazed at the talent of some people --- this guy is very good.  Let me know if you have trouble opening it -- he paints street art which is excellent.

My buddy Mario in Bolivia provided a long list of humorous quips. -- here's one, I'm sharing to lighten the spirits:

"A plane was taking off from Kennedy Airport. After it reached a comfortable cruising altitude, the captain made an announcement over the intercom; 'Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. Welcome to Flight Number 293, nonstop from New York to Los Angeles. The weather ahead is good and, therefore, we should have a smooth and uneventful flight. Now sit back and relax.... OH, MY GOD!'

Silence followed, and after a few minutes, the captain came back on the intercom and said, 'Ladies and Gentlemen, I am so sorry if I scared you earlier. While I was talking to you, the flight attendant accidentally spilled a cup of hot coffee in my lap. You should see the front of my pants!'

A passenger in coach yelled, 'That's nothing. You should see the back of mine!' "

Some cute ones from Mario.

There once was a religious young woman who went to Confession.  Upon entering the confessional, she said, 'Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned.'

The priest said, 'Confess your sins and be forgiven.'

The young woman said,  'Last night my boyfriend made mad passionate love to me seven times.'

The priest thought long and hard and then said, 'Squeeze seven lemons into a glass and then drink the juice.'

The young woman asked,  'Will this cleanse me of my sins?'

The priest said, 'No, but it will wipe that smile off of your face.'
------------------------------
  Confession

An elderly man walks into a confessional.  The following conversation ensues:

Man:  'I am 92 years old, have a wonderful wife of 70 years, many children,  grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  Yesterday, I picked up two hitch-hiking college girls.  We went to a motel where I had sex with each of them three times.'

Priest:  'Are you sorry for your sins?'

Man:  'What sins?'

Priest:  'What kind of a Catholic are you?'

Man:  'I'm Jewish.'

Priest:  'Why are you telling me all this?'

Man:  'I'm 92 years old  . . .   I'm telling everybody!'
------------------------------ ------------------

(This one especially for Gary)!

   Pest  Control

A woman was having a passionate affair with an Irish inspector from a pest-control company.  One afternoon they were carrying on in the bedroom together when her husband arrived home unexpectedly.

'Quick,'  said the woman to the lover, 'into the closet!' and she pushed him in the closet, stark naked.

The husband, however, became suspicious  and after a search of the bedroom discovered the man in the closet.  'Who are you?' he asked him.

'I'm an inspector from Bugs-B-Gone,' said the exterminator.

'What are you doing in there?' the husband asked.

'I'm investigating a complaint about an infestation of moths,' the man replied.

'And where are your clothes?' asked the husband.

The man looked down at himself and said, 'Those little bastards! '

Marriage  Humor

Wife:  'What are you doing?'

wi
fe:  'Nothing . . . ?  You've been reading our marriage  certificate for an hour.'

Husband:  'I was looking for the expiry date.'
------------------------------ ----

Wife:  'Do you want dinner?'

Husband:  'Sure!  What are my choices?'

Wife:  'Yes  or no.'
-----------------------------

  Stress Reliever

Girl: 'When we get married, I want to share all your worries, troubles and lighten your burden.'

Boy:  'It's very kind of you,  darling, but I don't have any worries or troubles.'

Girl:  'Well.  that's because we aren't  married yet.'
------------------------------ ----

A newly married man asked his wife, 'Would you have married me if my father hadn't left me a fortune?'

'Honey,' the woman replied sweetly, 'I'd have married you, NO MATTER WHO LEFT YOU A  FORTUNE!'
------------------------------ -------

A wife asked her husband:  'What do you like most in me, my pretty face or my sexy body?'

He looked at her from head to toe and replied: 'I like your sense-of

 humor!'

------------------------------ ---

Husbands are husbands

A man was sitting reading his papers when his wife hit him round the head with a frying pan.

'What was that for?' the man asked.

The wife replied, 'That was for the piece of paper with the name Betty on it that I found in  your trouser pocket.'

The man then said 'When I was at the races last week, Betty was the name of the horse I bet on.'

The wife apologized and went on with the housework.

Three days later the man is watching TV when his wife bashes him on the head with an even bigger frying pan, knocking him unconscious.

Upon re-gaining consciousness the man asked why she had hit him again.

  Wife replied, 'Your horse phoned!'

Clara Profaizer (Taylor)

Hey Tod (with one 'd'), Thank you very much for providing me with your new telephone number.

For all classmates who may read this, the committee for the 80th birthday party to be held on 09-12-24 will be contacting about 20 classmates each in the next few weeks. We have a lot of telephone numbers but some are outdated or disconnected landlines. Then we'll try an email address if one is available. Then we'll try snail mail using addresses that we have but some of them are outdated.  When no information is available or valid, it gets real difficult; BUT we will do the best we can because we want to make sure all our classmates are aware of our 'celebration of life' birthday party.

Please share this with classmates you happen to talk with and if the haven't been contacted, get their information for me or have them contact me......

Thanks, Clare Profaizer Taylor 801-985-0431.

A wife's eulogy at her husband's funeral:

 "Norman needed a blood transfusion,

but his blood type was not on record,

so the doctors asked me if I knew what it was.
They urgently needed to know, to save Norman's life.
Tragically, I had never known his blood type,

so I only had time to sit and say goodbye.

I'll never forget how supportive my Norman was.

Even as he was fading away, he kept on whispering to me,

"Be positive, be positive!"

That was my Norman!  Always optimistic and thinking of others."

THIS IS FUN TO READ AND QUITE TRUE.  WE ARE PROBABLY THE LAST GENERATION THAT WILL REMEMBER WHAT A CLOTHESLINE WAS.

And in lots of places they are now illegal. It's the poem at the end that's the best!!!

Remembering Mom's Clothesline.

THE BASIC RULES FOR CLOTHESLINES:  (If you don't even know what clotheslines are, better skip this.)

1. You had to hang the socks by the toes, NOT the top.

2. You hung pants by the BOTTOM/cuffs, NOT the waistbands.

3. You had to WASH the clothesline(s) before hanging any clothes -

walk the entire length of each line with a damp cloth around the lines.

4. You had to hang the clothes in a certain order; and always hang "whites" with "whites," and hang them first.

5. You NEVER hung a shirt by the shoulders - always by the tail!  What would the neighbours think?

6. Wash day on a Monday! NEVER hang clothes on the weekend; or on Sunday, for Heaven's sake!

7. Hang the sheets and towels on the OUTSIDE linesso you could hide your "unmentionables"

in the middle (perverts & busybodiesY'know!)

8. It didn't matter if it was sub-zero weather. Clothes would "freeze-dry."

9. ALWAYS gather the clothes pins when taking down dry clothes! Pins left on the lines were "tacky"!

10. If you were efficient, you would line the clothes up so that each item did not need two clothes pins;  (Clothes Pins = Pegs in the UK)

but shared one of the two clothes pins with the next item.

11. Clothes off of the line before dinner time, neatly folded in the clothes basket, and  ready to be ironed.

IRONED??!! Well, that's a whole OTHER subject!

12. Long wooden pole (clothes pole) that was used to push the clothes up so that longer items (sheets/pants/etc.)

Didn't brush the ground and get dirty.

And now a POEM  A clothesline was a news forecast, to neighbours passing by.

There were no secrets you could keep, when clothes were hung to dry.

It also was a friendly link; for neighbours always knew,

If company had stopped on by, to spend a night or two.

For then you'd see the "fancy sheets" and towels upon the line.

You'd see the "company table cloths" with intricate designs.

The line announced a baby's birth, from folks who lived inside.

As brand new infant clothes were hung, do carefully with pride!

The ages of the children could; so readily be known by watching how the sizes changed.

You'd know how much they'd grown!

It also told when illness struck, as extra sheets were hung.

Then nightclothes and a bathrobe too, haphazardly were strung.

It also said: "On vacation now", when lines hung limp and bare.

It told: "We're back!" when full lines sagged, with not an inch to spare!

New folks in town were scorned upon, if wash was dingy and gray.

As neighbours carefully raised their brows, and looked the other way.

But clotheslines now are of the past, for dryers make work much less.

Now what goes on inside a home, is anybody's guess!

I really miss that way of life, it was a friendly sign.

When neighbours knew each other best. By what hung on the line.

I remember here in Ogden that the sheets were never white enough because of the smoke in the air from all the engines at the railroad. In Iowa they froze solid.

I recall we had a neighbor living behind us, with a very large Bing Cherry tree.  The young son of the neighbor was a snotty little sh.., and when the cherries were ripe, he would take a bite out of a cherry and throw them at my grandmother's, beaitiful white sheets.  He often made a hell-of-a mess out of those sheets.

Had I been older, I probably would have been in jail.

I remember living in Plain City you could't hang clothes out when the farmers ere plowing and disking the fieds or you have to rewash everything fron the dirt flying around . Thank goodness for dryers.

Your right Ferron. When we lived in Iowa the farmers on both cultivated their fields

Rest in peace, Evan Black.  May the good Lord take you unto his boosm.

Thanks Clara for letting me know.

Herewith is an email Clara sent to me, after we enjoyed a nice long chat:

"My name is Alana Black. I'm using the e-mail account right now of my
father Evan Black. He just passed away on 3/16/2024.

Your e-mail doesn't state the name of the high school. Is it Ben
Lomond High? That's where my Dad graduated from in 1962.

Here's a link to his obituary, which has a good recent picture and
some information about his life that classmates might be interested in.

https://www.leafcremation.com/obituaries/Evan-J-Black?obId=31102995#/obituaryInfo

I've also cut and pasted the text of the obituary below.

If you need more information, please contact me at my own email
address, alana152@gmail.com.

Thank you, and good luck with your reunion planning!

Best regards,

Alana Black

Evan J Black, of Jonesboro and Atlanta, Georgia, passed away
peacefully on March 16, 2024, age 79. Born on June 28, 1944, he was
the son of Joseph Black and Flora Collins Black.

Evan graduated from Ben Lomond High School in Ogden, Utah, where he
excelled in debate and wrestling. He attended the University of Utah
on a Naval R.O.T.C. scholarship, graduating in 1966 with a Bachelor of
Science in political science with a certificate in international
relations. Evan was commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Navy and
entered active duty, attending flight training and becoming a Naval
Aviator. In the Navy, he served as an instructor pilot and also flew
anti-submarine reconnaissance combat missions in the P-3 Orion. After
the Vietnam War, Evan worked as a test pilot for Hayes International.

In the 1970s, he began a career as an air traffic controller at
Atlanta Center in Hampton, settling in the Lake Spivey Community in
Clayton County. While working full-time as an air traffic controller
on a rotating shift schedule, Evan earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude,
from John Marshall Law School in 1981. When he retired from federal
service many years later, Evan opened his own law practice in Clayton
County. His practice focused on representing deprived and neglected
children in juvenile court proceedings as a contract attorney for the
County. He also facilitated the adoption of many children in state
custody into loving, healthy homes. He retired from practicing law at
age 75.

Evan was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves, a patron of the arts, and
a supporter of many charities, including Planned Parenthood, the
Prostate Cancer Foundation and the Wounded Warrior Project. While at
the FAA, he volunteered as the NATCA chapter president and union
steward. He later served on the Board of the Lake Spivey Civic
Association and presided as a pro tempore judge of the Clayton County
Juvenile Court. He was a member of VFW Post 6330 in Jonesboro.

Evan loved playing cards, particularly bridge and poker, and was a
member of many long-running games. He enjoyed fishing and taking
friends out on his boat on Lake Spivey. He was a gifted cook, with a
lively and irreverent sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife of
thirty-five years, Sylvia Price Black.

He is survived by his sisters Elaine Black Burke and Karen Black
Wolfe; his brother Bradley Black; his daughter Alana; his
grandchildren Irene, Alexander, Gareth, and Fiona; and his devoted
longtime companion Donna Burchfield.

An interment of ashes will take place at a later date at the Barrancas
National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida."

I was certainly saddened to see this.  It might be good to send condolencs to Alana.

Dan

This is what I sent Alana -- Evan's daughter:

"Alana,

Clara Profaizer Taylor, called and gave me the news of your father's passing.  I was graduated from Ben Lomond High School in Ogden, Utah in 1962, with your father.  I always remember him as one of the most respected and liked in our class.  Your posting the obituary was very much appreciated.  Evan certainly had an interesting and successful life.  I pray the good Lord reserves a place for him at the table.

It would be nice to hear more about you and your family, if you care to share with us.

My name is Dan Hutchinson (they used to call me Danny, until leaving Utah after being graduated).  I joined the Navy as well. Then went on to work for the CIA for 26 years, Living a total of 36 years in foreign countries.  I was looking forward to sharing stories with your Dad, perhaps we'll have another chance.  Enough about me, please accept my sincere condolences.

Warm Regards
Dan "

Hi Dan,
Thanks for your kind note.
It sounds like you already read the obituary, so you know the information that was in there.
My mom and Dad met while he was serving in the Navy. She was a civilian computer programmer for the department of the Navy at one point. I am their only child.
Like my Dad, I attended college on an ROTC scholarship and was commissioned in the Air Force. After an educational delay to attend law school, I served 5 years on active duty as a judge advocate during the Gulf War era. I've been practicing law 30 years now, the last 14 as a federal prosecutor in Atlanta. I intentionally left my last name and my children's last names out of the obituary because of the nature of my work. I do not have social media other than LinkedIn, and seek to avoid having details of family life online.
I have 4 kids. Irene is a creative professional working in the board game industry, Alex is a mechanical engineer, and Gareth is an EMT and part time fencing coach. Fiona is still in high school.
Thanks for reaching out! I hope you have a joyful class reunion!
Best,
Alana Black
(404) 225-2600"

Then my response:

"Thank you for this Alana.  I'm pleased to see the effects of an obviously good upbringing.; noting the accomplishments you've made and the influence it has had on your children.
May the good Lord bless you and your family.
I fully understand the sensitivity to posting personal information.  We are certainly living in troubled times.
Warm Regards
Dan Hutchinson"
