Well Connie, I hope that you're NOT the only one who's looking forward to the 80th Birthday Party. It's really going to be a fun event.

Thank you for putting Carol Sorenson Plowman''s name in the temple. Her husband is no longer in a coma and is now on a road to recovery. We can all just pray for the best now. She is really wanting to be able to come to the Birthday Party 09-12-24 and has made a sizable donation to the party fund. I certainly hope that she will be able to get here.

Happy to hear her husband is improving.  Hope she will be able to come.  I keep in touch with Sharlotte.  Thank you for your note.

Ode to Louise

Many Years ago; I was a 2nd Grade student at Mound Fort Elementary. There was a teacher there (not my teacher, I was in the other 2nd Grade class) named Mrs. Shirley. All the kids thought she was some sort of Ogress. She would hang around the lunchroom and yell at the kids to eat their vegetables, don’t waste food, etc. I remember one instance in particular where she was making some kids eat the rind on their watermelon.

Do any of you remember her?

When I was 8 years old, I started skiing. My uncle; William (Bill) Rhodes; was my lifelong friend and Mentor was a ski instructor and ski patrolman at Snow Basin. One afternoon we went into the lodge to take our boots off and have a hot drink, some walked up behind me and began speaking to Bill’s wife Verna. I was startled because the voice sounded familiar to me. I turned around and looked; Lo & Behold it was Mrs. Shirley! Verna introduced me and suddenly in that setting I was no longer afraid of her. Everyone knew her as “Tex” and she was a regular fixture at Snow Basin. She was a “PowderHound” and was always one of the first on the scene after a snow storm.

I glad I got to know her and ski with her; It certainly reinforced the adage “Don’t judge too Quickly”

Greetings, Classmates.  I have so many things to post and/or comment on, but since there is such poor response to this site and the posts made over the past nine years, I've finally become discouraged to the point of giving up trying to get people to participate here.

Other than Gary Acker and Ferron Wimmer, with an ocassional comment from others, I just feel like for me to continue is a waste of time.

I'll stay in touch with Gary and Ferron via email and wish the rest of you health and happiness for the future.  Stay well and have a great time at the forthcoming party.  I salute those of you who have worked to put it together.

I'm beginning to seriously think about moving back to Bolivia.  I'm not going to rush it; I still want to stay here hoping to see Donald Trump Inagurated once again, then hoping to see the housing market pick up, thus getting a better price for my house.  This administration we have now has be more than a dissapointment.

All the best to you folks.

Dan Hutchinson

I posted this on my profile page, and see from the note Clara sent, I'll post a couple more, or rather send to Dave or Dennis.  This is a current photo of me.

Looking at this I noticed a ceramic rooster on the table to my right.  This is a custom in Paraguay, to give some one a rooster which has a large hole in the rear-end, to roll up some paper money, place it in the hole, and face the hole/money toward your door.  This is a wish of the giver of the rooster, for abundance/wealth to flow or be attracted to the home (through the front door).

I have these customary superstitions from around the world, all over the house -- I'm sill poor -- LOL

Hey Dan, I just posted the 2 photos to my iPad and will send these 2 off to Dennis right now. HOWEVER, you can send a couple more either to me or Dennis at stssts2022@yahoo.com. Then you will be able to see them in our slideshow at the 80th Birthday Party on 09-12-2024.

AND, to everyone else who just happens to be seeing this, be sure to send in YOUR FAVORITE PHOTOS. Whether you are going to be able to attend our event - LIKE DAN IS - or not, we want your photos.

 l.    Hey Dan thats pretty od to me some of our traditions are just as odd . like putting a horse shoe over the door . I would like to hear more . your so debanair . Why did you have coat and tie on,just returning from church ? You look Great

Daniel Hutchinson

Thanks, Ferron.  I was just about ready to go to church.

The most bazar customs I've ever run into were in Mali, West Africa.  One example is when a young maiden reaches marrying age, anywhere from 12 to 15, The young lady's body is completely covered with a white chaulk like substance.  Totally naked, she sets out to meet her one and only.  Supposedly no one can see her except for her intended.

The most bazar, is for a young man to obtain his manhood he must take the head of another man.  The Toreg tribe are the most violent in this regard.  I only saw one headless corps in the two years I was there.

Thankfully most of the people in the Bamako (capital city) area are of the Dogon tribe, a much more peaceful and honest people.

Gary Acker

Good Heaven's Dan ! I'd say that those are some odd customs! You have to take a man's head before you get married!? I'm not so interested in getting married! I'm going to be in enough trouble already. Thanks again for your information on your adventures.

08/13/24 11:10 AM #1638

Daniel Hutchinson

No, Gary, two different examples.  the girl in whitewash is looking for her betroved.

The young man needing to take a head is the custom for becoming a man.

Both are young, actually we'd consider them children.  There surely are some strange customs in the world.

Hi Guys.  Reading your comments are appreciated, And reading my post regarding the two youg people  the more correct term for both of them would be "rite of passage" -- in both cases it's a change in  their lives.

Ferron, I'm beginning to do some more writing.  I had one fellow associated with, the literary community in Ogden, say he wanted to read my memoris.  I appreciate the interest.

Did I tell you guys about my Mexican friend who had his mother-in-law come to live with them?   He told her: "Mi casa tu casa" (my house is your house).  ...   so she sold it!

08/14/24 09:21 PM #1642

Gary Acker

Hey Dan have you put your novel aside? I for one think that is an honor for someone to want to hear and write about duty and adventurers I would love to read it. Ohhh, before I go for awhile I'm sorry that you lost your home. Just can't trust anyone.

08/14/24 09:52 PM #1643

Daniel Hutchinson

That was my Mexican friend's mother-in-law that sold his house --- LOL

As for my writing -- I'm not ready to put it all together just yet.  When I do, you will be one of the first to get a copy.

08/15/24 03:22 PM #1644

Ferron Wimmer

don't forget my copy either . Your sence of humor and all your friends continues to warm my heart . Keep it up .

I was pretty sure that you weren't going to have to leave your home! Severely tongue in cheek. Yes if you write more I'd love to see your manuscript!
