One Mario sent me before this past weekend,

"How the english language can be severely warped by a few twisted teasers

It’s my first week working at the bicycle factory and they already made me a spokesperson.

My laptop caught pneumonia, apparently because I left Windows open.

I thought swimming with Dolphins was expensive until I went swimming with sharks. It cost me an arm and a leg.

This last one was strung out in a long vertical line.  It wouldn't paste like that.

Thank you Ferron, i'm relieved to hear you are Ok.  I'm sorry to hear of the family difficulties and hope it all works out satisfactorily.

I think most of us have family experiences which are not pleasant to deal with; nonetheless, thank you for your response.

I just received a nice email from Ruth Young Adams, telling me she is doing fine.  She too had some difficult days with medical issues with her son, but he's doing much better, which is good to hear,

For the rest of you, a few words letting us know how you are would be nice to see.

Subject: : Darwin Awards...

1. When his 38 caliber revolver failed to fire at his intended victim during a hold-up in Long Beach, California would-be robber James Elliot did something that can only inspire wonder. He peered down the barrel and tried the trigger again. This time it worked.

And now, the HONOURABLE MENTIONS:

2. The chef at a hotel in Switzerland lost a finger in a meat cutting machine and after a little shopping around, submitted a claim to his insurance company. The company expecting negligence sent out one of its men to have a look for himself. He tried the machine and he also lost a finger. The chef's claim was approved.

3. A man who shoveled snow for an hour to clear a space for his car during a blizzard in Chicago returned with his vehicle to find a woman had taken the space. Understandably, he shot her.

4. After stopping for drinks at an illegal bar, a Zimbabwean bus driver found that the 20 mental patients he was supposed to be transporting from Harare to Bulawayo had escaped.
Not wanting to admit his incompetence, the driver went to a nearby bus stop and offered everyone waiting there a free ride. He then delivered the passengers to the mental hospital, telling the staff that the patients were very excitable and prone to bizarre fantasies.. The deception wasn't discovered for 3 days.

5. An American teenager was in the hospital recovering from serious head wounds received from an oncoming train. When asked how he received the injuries, the lad told police that he was simply trying to see how close he could get his head to a moving train before he was hit.

6. A man walked into a Louisiana Circle-K, put a $20 bill on the counter, and asked for change. When the clerk opened the cash drawer, the man pulled a gun and asked for all the cash in the register, which the clerk promptly provided. The man took the cash from the clerk and fled, leaving the $20 bill on the counter. The total amount of cash he got from the drawer... $15. [If someone points a gun at you and gives you money, is it a crime committed?]

7. Seems an Arkansas guy wanted some beer pretty badly.. He decided that he'd just throw a cinder block through a liquor store window, grab some booze, and run. So he lifted the cinder block and heaved it over his head at the window. The cinder block bounced back and hit the would-be thief on the head, knocking him unconscious. The liquor store window was made of Plexiglas. The whole event was caught on videotape..

8. As a female shopper exited a New York convenience store, a man grabbed her purse and ran. The clerk called 911 immediately, and the woman was able to give them a detailed description of the snatcher. Within minutes, the police apprehended the snatcher. They put him in the car and drove back to the store. The thief was then taken out of the car and told to stand there for a positive ID. To which he replied, "Yes, officer, that's her. That's the lady I stole the purse from.”

9. The Ann Arbor News crime column reported that a man walked into a Burger King in Ypsilanti, Michigan, at 5 a.m., flashed a gun, and demanded cash. The clerk turned him down because he said he couldn't open the cash register without a food order. When the man ordered onion rings, the clerk said they weren't available for breakfast... The man, frustrated, walked away. [*A 5-STAR STUPIDITY AWARD WINNER]

10. When a man attempted to siphon gasoline from a motor home parked on a Seattle street by sucking on a hose, he got much more than he bargained for.. Police arrived at the scene to find a very sick man curled up next to a motor home near spilled sewage. A police spokesman said that the man admitted to trying to steal gasoline, but he plugged his siphon hose into the motor home's sewage tank by mistake. The owner of the vehicle declined to press charges saying that it was the best laugh he'd ever had.

Thank you Clara.  I just took a break after basting the turkey.

We wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving as well.

I posted a Happy Thanksgiving message yesterday but for some reason it didn't post.

Ferron, I hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful with your daughter in Tucson?

I have two connections to Tucson -- I was conceived in Tucson, when my biological father was stationed there in the Army air corp.  I never actually even met him until I was 16, when he visited Ogden from Kansas City, Mo. where he remarried and lived having another family -- I have a half sister and two half brothers with him.

My second connection is a dear cousin, who managed several super markets, including a Walmart in Tucson.  I need to drive up there one of these days for a visit.

Thanks for the info Dan  We had a great time . Y daughter is a lot of fun . Not married , no kids , and 4 cats . She lives in a small condo complex [ 4 units ] right in town. She is with Rathion ,a project manager. She does so well and am happy for her . She has been all over the east coast with them . Her carrer has been really interesting .

How is your better half doing , [ I hope well ]. We sure missed you at the party .

I don't write very well so I'll sighn off for now .

Thanks so much Dan

Thanks Ferron, very interesting.  These tid-bits of family information  makes this a great place to connect.

My wife just had the operation to take some of the droopy eye lid skin removed, so her eyes are black and blue right now, but her eyes sure look better and bigger-  a good move,  Other than that she's doing pretty well -- just like the rest of us getting old(er).

I very much regret not being able to attend the party.  It would have been fun, and happy so many were able to enjoy themselves.

You may have been sorry if I'd have been there, because just like my writing, I talk the same way -- all the time.  I think part of that is having lived under cover for so many year, never being able to say much -- now I'm making up for it -- LOL

Your writing is just fine.  Again thank you.

You all may have noticed that Gabriela Obid-Frias has checked in with us from Santiago, Chile.  If you go to her profile page you can see some entries,  I suggested to her that comments here on the Forum page might be viewed by more of the classmates, and know many would love to hear from her.  I note where Gary Acker has made a comment in her profile.

Gabi,  If you see this, I know many here would enjoy reading something of your life; family, life's experiences etcetera.

For the rest of you, it would be nice to welcome Gabriela to this site,

I was just going back and reviewing comments and profile entries.  There sure are a lot of interesting people amongst our classmates.

One of my recent comments, I mentioned being 'under cover'.  Having lived that way, to me it's just one of life's normal experiences.  I realize it's not normal for most.  For instance for my 26 year career I lived with a Russian psydonym.  That was a safety factor, keeping all of our written material and files using the psydonym, thus if some bad guys would take you captive (like some of my friends and colleagues in Iran in1979).  The association with the Agency would be protected by having everything in written form under a psydonym.  Obviously I can't say too much - the forgoing is purely informational.

I had no idea that you were in this part of your career. That's why I am so interested in your novel! I could feel the character in your words. Thanks for your work that you did. Very impressive to me!

Thanks Gary -- but I have to say I don't speak Russian -- LOL

You might recall seeing the Iranian rebels who seized our Embassy in Tehran in 1979, leading some of the hostages down the front steps of the Emassy; the shorter balding guy who's prominent when they replay on TV once in awhile. It's the balding guy with a big wide blindfold on.  His name is Jerry.  I won't mention his last name for privacy sake.  Jerry held the same position in the Embassy that I held, in several of my overseas tours when in Embassies.

I had to retire under cover, but asked the Agency to lift my cover, because my resume was not what any prospctive employer would think very impressive.  I changed cover a few times, mostly as a State Department employee, fully integrated, pay grade et al.  When resigning and going with another cover, then back to State Dept., I was rehired at a lower pay grade than before I left a couple of years before.  You can see that doesn't look too good on a resume.

It took the Agency about a year (in retirement) to investigate and make the determination that anything I might have been involved with was still sensitive.  They determined my involvement with sensitive issues was old enough that it would be Okay for my cover to be lifted.  If they had'nt lifted my cover, obviously I couldn't say these things.  I'm still careful not to reveal any sensitive/classified information.

Dan you had the most interesting carrer. Is your book  finished if so where can I get a copy ? I really like hearing  of all your experiences . I hope you and the rest of our class has a wonderful Holiday.

Thank you again, Ferron.  After my son died, I kinda went into a funk and writers block.  I am about ready to get back and finish it.  I have a few chapters, which I sent to Gary, some time ago.  If you like I'll send that to you, it'll give you an idea of my style -- the book is a special ops fiction.  It's pretty rough in draft.  I need to follow Steve's advice and "edit, edit, and edit' then wrap it up.

When and if I can finish it, you will certainly get a copy.

I too want to wish you a very Merry Christmas.

You all know of my Jewish friend, Mario in Bolivia.  I sent the following to him and his brother Wolf,  I thought some of you might enjoy seeing it?

"My friends -- I wish you a very happy Hanukkah.

I thought you'd like seeing this 'gentile' learning a little about the origin of Hanukkah."

"According to the story in the Torah, Jewish people in Jerusalem fought for three years against the Syrians, who were led by Antiochus IV. Then, around 165 BCE, the Maccabees, led by Judas Maccabaeus, liberated Judea, and Judas ordered that the Temple be restored and cleansed. When the Temple was rededicated, however, it had plenty of lamps but not enough oil.

After liberation, according to the story in the Talmud, there was only a jar with enough oil to light the Temple’s lamps for one day. A miracle permitted the oil to burn for eight days until new consecrated oil was brought in, thus the eight days of Hanukkah."
