Joyce Weiman (Amato)

What an amazing weekend! Thank you to a fabulous organizing committee for all your hard work! A special thank you to Bella for singing her brains out all night to keep us entertained! Everything was perfect from beginning to end. As I am driving home to New York, I feel so sad that I won't be seeing most of my classmates of '63 again. I would like to keep this space open so that we can keep in touch from time  to time. I miss you all already! What a great experience. Thanks again!

Thanks to all who made this wonderful  "memory for a lifetime" a reality. It truly was a magnificent occasion. The energy in the room was amazing. The organizing committee should feel a deep sense of satisfaction for a job very well done.

Wishing all of us the best that life has to offer, and may many of us stay connected with each other.

It was a complete joy working with the entire organizing committee.......a labour of love.

The feedback from our classmates has been so appreciated and heartwarming.

To see the interaction among the grads, the renewal of friendships and genuine camaraderie, after a half a century, reinforced that our efforts were so worthwhile.

I am so sorry that I had to miss the Reunion. The organizers obviously worked so hard and it sounds like it was a ball !

I spent the weekend with 700 high school student leaders in my role as Provincial Advisor to the Nova Scotia Secondary School Students' Association. My wife and I are planning to get to Montreal in the Fall to visit. In the meantime if anyone is visiting our beautiful city of Halifax, please call us at 902-479-0857. I would love to see old friends.

Hugs

It truly was a memorable weekend. Thank you to all the organizers who put in such tremendous effort to make the weekend a success. I really enjoyed reconnecting with some of my oldest friends who I had not seen in many years. It was like we never parted. The challenge now is to keep these rejuvenated connections alive. I for one intend to give it my best effort.

Thank you,

Allan Sheff

The  reunion weekend may have come & gone, but the new memories that we've all made will last forever.!

I am so grateful & thoroughly delighted that this 50th party was everything ( and so much more)  than I could have ever dreamed possible.!

To my co-chair Bella (Freedman) Kotler,  to  treasurer, Eric Rodier, to Isar Klaiman, Brana Bienstock,, Abigail Hirsch, Laura Strauss, Ellie Cabinsky (Stein), Kathy (Bailey) Kahan, and to all  the other  dedicated & tireless  committee members , a simple " thank  you" doesn't really seem sufficient.  Your dedication.... hard work all these months....  and true team effort are responsible for the outstanding success of this reunion weekend.

Thank you ! Thank you! Thank you!

Our gratitude to Morty Benedik for giving his time & talent to keeping  the memory  of this weekend alive in photographs, and to Abigail Hirsch for putting together what will certainly be a wonderful visual memory.

To Charna Young... thanks for all of your guidance & support, and to the Absolutes who helped to make our reunion spirited &  special.

However, when all is said & done, thank you to all of you... the Grads of '63... who came from near & far to be part of this fantastic event. You made this the best reunion ever!!   (if I must say so myself)

For those of you who were unable to attend, you were truly missed.

Keep well... stay happy.... & please stay in touch.! It's been great connecting with all of the "old" friends from those carefree & innocent (?) days of OHS.

If anyone wants to post a personal email address here, it is a  good way to ensure that contact can continue even after  the web sight is no longer availible. ( November 2013)

My address is : <judy@shaicovitch.com>

Have a wonderful summer.

YAY OUTREMONT HIGH.... CLASS OF 1963  !!!!!

I remain... so very  happy to have seen you all again. Until the next time?

Never for a moment did I hesitate about going to our 50th reunion.                  I had figured that our reunion would be fun, special, and meaningful.                      Never, though, did I anticipate that the reunion would be so uber fun, uber special, and uber meaningful!!                                       Many warm thanks to all of you who spent countless hours making it happen!                  I am also so pleased that so many of us were there.                 I am prouder than ever of our Outremont High heritage.           For the most part, we were pretty 'good' boys and girls.............and we still are!                        Let's stay in touch, and, again, BIG, BIG thanks to all you worked so hard, and all who attended!

Have been enjoying looking at the pictures but I have to confess, I still picture the girls in their tunics which is as I remember them so clearly.  If there is a next time, we shd all dress in tunics and the guys in white shirts and grey or dark pants - Teddy, you can still wear a colorful jacket as the dress code never stopped you from doing that.

Love, Ginny

Olga Stathopoulos (Laurent)

I enjoyed our class reunion 1963-2013.  50 years of history and life. There was a definite joie de vie this past weekend and Bella's musical entertainment was very engaging because of memory lane songs and good dancing music.  I was glad to meet people that made me feel nostalgic. The atmosphere was warm and everybody was friendly and pleasant.  There was a camaraderie feeling and an encouragement to appreciate what we had and to look forward to more good times.  As I made "new" friends I will feel free to have some conversation as time brings new opportunities.

I congratulate the committee for their hard and successful work.  You made our evening memorable and very relaxing to take it in.  Let it not be the last chapter of our history. Olga

From the bottom of my heart I want to thank the organizers for putting together such a fabulous and heart-warming reunion!!!  Words can't express how wonderful it was to see dear friends again and relive memories from days gone by.  Everything was great - the food, the music, the conversations, the tunics, Outremont High, and the hugs and kisses.  I felt like I was in a twilight zone from which I did not wish to wake up.  Bella, I'm so glad you are in such a great group...loved the music!!

I was very touched by the reunion and all the connections which were made. Some people reconnected after having lost touch for years – an unexpected joy. For those women who had attended the 1989 and 1996 reunions of our year, this was an affirmation of the friendships and connections which had been established over the years. It amazes me that a number of the friendships in the room were more than 50 years old. I feel so lucky to be one of those women.

Above all there was a joy and desire to share, to remember, to support each others. It was inspiring to hear of those who had fought and overcome serious illnesses and other trials and tribulations and were having a good time. We were pretty good on the dance floor and Bella and her group kept us rocking.  Thanks also to Elaine Gordon Vachon for her performance.

I also enjoyed just learning about things I just was not aware of when I was at school – bits and pieces of history about the school, the teachers and Montreal ( since I now reside in TO).  For example, I didn't know that some students were bussed in to OHS at the time (Is that true?). I thought we all walked those long distances to school or took the streetcar!

I want to thank Rubin Goldblum for helping me remember that it was not just 50 years high school reunion but a 55+ year reunion for many of us who went to the same grade schools! (Rubin – I found my report cards (no I am not a hoarder) – I did have Ms. Schreiber in grade 4!). The reunion made me realize the photographic gaps in our school lives – I have no pictures of grade school before grade 7.

The organizing committee was terrific and did a wonderful job of selecting the venue, arranging for the food and the brunch at OHS.  As a distant committee member, I did not have to do as much as those committee members who lived in Montreal – but from the emails and telephone calls I know they worked long hours and the results were wonderful. Thank you all for giving us a weekend to remember.

I was glad to see that Vicki  Silver Zak actually found three of her painting and one of her sister’s in the group of paintings we got from Helen Mackey.  It was just amazing to find this so many years later!  I hope over the next year to get some of those unclaimed paintings on a website where, perhaps, others will find their art work of long ago.

Many of us said we wished we had more time to talk and connect. Just as the women in Florida had their mini reunions and now the men in Halifax, I hope we will continue to keep meeting, talking, sharing and enjoying each other in the years to come.

Some reflections from  co-chairs, Judy & Bella.

In 1963, when each of us walked onto the stage of OHS to receive our high school  diploma, none of us were considering how we would be looking back at that time so many years later.

Not until now... that is.. because this reunion has brought it all back... the depth of our pride in being part of Outremont High School in the sixties....the degree in which we were all motivated, and influenced by that one very special teacher... and that wonderful feeling of  shared history, reconnection,  and friendship which has surfaced again- 50 years later.

Both Bella & I are very proud to have been part of this very spirited and poignant  reunion. For one glorious weekend, we were all  transported back to the "good old days" of high school, and that experience was more than special....it was fabulous!!!!!

This would never have been possible without the support & hard work of the entire  Reunion committee. Their dedication... organiziion ... persistance ...  and  determination..  were  the driving force behind its success.

The feedback from all of you has been incredible!! We only wish that we could have "found" more graduates to have been part of this once-in-a lifetime occasion.

Let's try and keep the channels of communication open with our " newly found" old friends, and remember to put your reflections, stories... and pictures on the websight so that we can all share each others momentos.

Stay healthy.... stay happy.... and please, stay in touch.

Most sincerely,

Bella (Freedman) Kotler & Judy (Neiman) Shaicovitch
