                                       80TH BIRTHDAY PARTY

Just a couple of items:

Received a message from Carolyn Davis Cox wondering if anyone would be interested in doing a ZOOM call ???  I've never learned how to do this, but if anyone wants to bring a laptop and do a ZOOM call, contact Carolyn through this site (go to Classmate Profiles and find Carolyn) .  Thanks

Steve Millward wondered if anyone played the guitar?  The site has electricity if anyone has an electric guitar or a keyboard and would want to bring it.  Steve thought it would be fun to jam, to have some music etc.

My musical talent is zilch, but I know we have a lot of classmates with beautiful voices.  Maybe, if someone would lead us, we could all sing 'Happy Birthday To ME' .  If interested get in touch with Steve Millward 208-406-1544.  Thanks  ( I think Steven Streeper plays the banjo, but hasn't signed up to attend.  Maybe this would get him to attend?)

OBITUARY FOR JUDY RUTH HARTMAN SULLIVAN

Judy H. Sullivan, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend transitioned peacefully surrounded by family and caregivers in Boise, ID on Saturday June 17, 2023 of Alzheimers.  Judy was born in Niagara Falls, NY on April 18, 1943, to Margaret E. and Arthur "Art" E. Hartman and grew up in Pocatello, ID, with her two brothers, John "Jack" (Madeline) and Lee (Gayle).  She attended school at Whittier Elementary, Alameda Jr. High, and Pocatello High School.  She was an active member of Job's Daughters and the high school drill team.  It was at Poky High that Judy met the love of her life, Dennis L. Sullivan.  Their life-long commitment spanned 65 years to include two children, two states, two sons-in-law, four grandchildren, and many dear friends.

Judy and Dennis were married July 31, 1960 and welcomed their first daughter, Robin Jo, on March 14, 1961.  Their second daughter, Becky Lynn, was born January 8, 1967.  Once the girls were school-age, Judy began her career in education at Whittier Elementary, first as a lunch lady, then as a teacher's aide, and finally as school secretary.

In 1980, Judy and Dennis took the opportunity to move to Sterling, IL, where Judy continued her career as a secretary, first at Clistic School for disabled children and then at Self-Help Enterprises.  In 1990 Judy and Dennis returned to Idaho, settlng up residence in Boise.  Judy continued to work with children, first at Hillside Jr. High, then Le Boise Jr. High and finally at White Pine Elementary where she stayed until her retirement in 2006.  Judy is remembered for her devotion to children, her dependability her humor, and her empathy.

The little family Judy and Dennis created grew to include Michael Vincent Face when Robin and Vinni married on August 2, 1986.  In 1990, they welcomed their first grandchild, Nico.  Granddaughter Kylie soon followed in 1992.  Becky married Benjamin E. Ford in 1998, and two more grandchildren were welcomed into the family - Ian in 2001 and Joseph in 2005.  Judy adored her grandchildren and celebrated when Kylie married Ryan Ricks in 2019.  Judy and Dennis are also blessed with nieces and nephews Chad Hartman (Bella), Kate Bacon (Stephen), Mindy Bloom, David Hartman, Michadel Sullivan, and Stefany Zimmerman (Steve).  Judy is survived by her cousin, Linda Hoffman, and in-laws Steve and Judy Sullivan.

By 2012 , Judy was diagnosed with Alzheimers, but was able to continue living at home and participating in family milestones until the fall of 2021.  At that time, Judy moved to Edgewood Springs Memory Care facility in Boise where she quickly became a staff favorite.  She was lovingly cared for by the staff at Edgewood with daily visits by family until her transition in June 2023.

Judy had an amazing spirit which drew people to her, and she had many devoted friends throughout her life.  Gayle Leonard Hartman (Lee) was technically her sister-in-law, but truly was a sister and best friend since 1967.  And while we wish to acknowledge each of her friends by name, they are so numerous we are afraid to leave someone out.  Whether neighbor, colleague, book club member, retired lunch bunch, or dear friend, please know that Judy loved you and dearly missed you as the years passed.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library https://imaginationlibrary.com in memory of Judy's love of children and books, to Hospice Foundation of America https://hospicefoundation.org in honor of All Care Hospice of Boise which made Judy's final two years comfortable, or the Alzheimers Association https://www.alz.org/ to help end this cruel disease which took Judy too soon.

*Judy's middle name was Ruth, but she referred to herself as Judy H. in honor of her family name Hartman.  (Relyea Funeral Home of Boise)

RIP Judy

(Thanks to Kerry Johnson for advising me of Pete's passing)

Dennis "Pete" Townsend passed away peacefully at home with family in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, July 4, 2023.  The grand finale fireworks were surely in some way a regard to him.  Pete was born in Pocatello, Idaho, July 27, 1943, to Lucille and Tom Townsend, who predeceased him.

Pete is survived by his wife of 34 years, Judy Chapin Bundy; his children: son, Ross and wife, Elizabeth Townsend of Ireland; daughter, Amy and husband, Chris Nathan of Nashville, TN; stepchildren: son, Robin Bundy, and grandsons, Sander Bundy, and Flynn Bundy of Coeur d' Alene; and daughter Erin Bundy and husband  Rick Lucke of Coeur d' Alene; brother, Jon and wife Suzanne Townsend of Portland, OR; and sister, Susan Townsend of Marysville, California.

Pete attended Pocatello High School in Pocatello, Idaho, class of 1961; college at Idaho State University and graduate school at the University of Washington, where he earned a master's degree in Counseling in Education.  He worked a full career helping students as a counselor at University High School in Spokane, Washington, until his retirement, and then worked several more years advising students as the Professional Technical Coordinator at North Idaho College in Coeur d' Alene.  He loved education, was always a supporter of public schools, loved to challenge others to think critically and fact check, and enjoyed helping students find the right studies, programs and careers for each of them as unique individuals.

Pete loved the outdoors and sports, such as skiing, kayaking, basketball, riding his electric bike, and he announced GSL football and basketball games for many years in Spokane, and drew many comments and smiles, when every year he would paint his bald head with a logo for tournaments.  He loved to travel and have adventures, and no destination was too close or too far.  Pete especially loved family get-togethers, visiting and having a beer with friends.  He enjoyed discussing a myriad of topics of the world, politics, sports, and to hear about the lives of friends and family.  He often said "Life is about the people."

We will miss his clever sense of humor and quick wit, how he never took himself too seriously, his kind way of listening and considering everyone's views and his ability to recognize and complement each person's strengths, as he genuinely liked people and found each person interesting.

Pete requested a small family gathering, so there will be no formal service held.  The family requests any remembrance be given to Idaho State University in Pocatello and/or Hospice of North Idaho, Schneidmiller House, Coeur d' Alene.

Yates Funeral Home is entrusted with final arrangements.  Please visit Pete's online memorial and sign his guestbook at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.

RIP Pete

50 PLUS CLASS REUNION

Pat Vigliaturo, with the 50 Plus Class Reunion Committee, has challenged our class to see if we can get at least 100 classmates to sign up on their web page (please do this whether you plan to attend reunion or not).  She is from the Class of 1963, and that class has 100 classmates who have signed up.  Their data base is the same as ours, so you should not have a problem signing up.

If you do plan to attend this reunion, you can register on this website by selecting the menu option on the top left.  Joining the website is not the same as registering for the reunion.

Reunion is Saturday, September 9 at The Red Lion in Pocatello.

Go to:   https://www.pokyhigh50.com/

Select "Join Here", find your name on the list that appears and click on it.  The rest is all self explanatory.

"If you plan to attend the Reunion, you can register on this website by selecting the menu option on the top left.  Joining the website is dnot the same as registering for the reunion.  You can complete your registration and pay either by credit card or by check, your preference, on the website.  We will not be sending you a paper registration form by mail so please register on line.

If you know you can't attend the reunion, we would appreciate it if you would select the reunion information and pay the $5.00 membership fee.  It helps ensure we are able to continue this group in the future.

We hope you can attend the reunion, but even if you can't, please join the website.  Pat Vigliaturo"

ODE TO US

There was an old schoolhouse in Poky

Where life lessons learned, yeh, no jokey

We've now reached our Eighties,

And skipped pushing up daisies

Let's dance til the dawn, nah, that's hokey!
