OBITUARY FOR ROD CARLSON

Rod Carlson, 81, calmly passed from us on Dec. 24 2024.  After a 2 week hospital stay, he returned to Gooding for hospice care succumbing to liver failure in a month.

Born in Pocatello, Idaho, Feb. 22, 1943 to Earl and Isabel Carlson; he added strength and energy as the third of five children.  Their time at the family cabin and with reatives near Carey were often referred to by Rod.  Early on alpine skiing became a major part of his life even earning him a separate ski picture in the high school yearbook.

After graduation from Pocatello High School in 1961, he skied Sun Valley working for Union Pacific at the Continental.  This gave him a great introduction to famous celebrities!  Returning after that winter Rod spent the next few decades working in the family business at Mr. C's, teaching skiing at Skyline (Pebble Creek) Scott's Ski Shop, seling to mines, farming and raising his three children.  A cherished highlight was family ski team racing at the national level and succeeding.  River rafting (Grand Canyon) and of course skiing.

His sence of humor, charm, wry wit, warmth and intensity will be sorely missed.  Rod was preceeded in death by his dear daughter Lesa and two older brothers, Joe and Ray.  He is survived by his wife, Martha Olson sons Tim (Suzi) and Brad (Tammie), sisters LesLee (Dennis) and Teresa (Randy), as well a five grandchildren two great and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

OBITUARY FOR JOSEPH "Joe" A. WYANT

Joseph A. "Joe" Wyant, a man whose heart was as big as his smile, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2025, in Gainsville, Georgia, wrapped in the love of his devoted family.  Born on December 28, 1943, in small town Pocatello, Idaho, "Jody" (as he was known then), lived 81 vibrant years, pouring his boundless energy into his family, his community, and a life rich with purpose and joy.

Joe's journey took flight after graduating from Pocatello High School in 1961,  when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, a path that led him to the Naval Air Station in Marietta, Georgia.  It was there, beneath the shadow of what's now the Big Chicken, that fate smiled upon him: he met Gladdys Pannell, the woman who would become his soulmate and the love of his life.  After four years of honorable service with the Marine Corps, Joe and Gladys were married on October 16, 1965, and began their beautiful adventure together, settling into their first home in Smyrna, Georgia.  While working tirelessly on C. 130 military transport planes at Lockheed Martin, Joe also earned his associate's degree from Kennesaw College followed by study at Georgia State University - a testiment to his quiet dedtermination and thirst for growth.

In 1972, Joe, Gladys and their spirited three year-old daughter, Heather, put down roots in Gainsville, Georgia, where Joe embarked on a stellar career in sales starting with Whitehead Paper Company.  Joe and Gladys welcomed their son Jason in August of 1975.  As the packaging world evolved, Joe's keen instincts led him to Gilbert Plastics Corp. during the dawn of the plastics revolution.  With his infectious charisma, sharp expertise, and a knack for inspiring trust, he became a standout figure in consumer packaging -- a true gentleman of the industry.  In 1993, he was elected President of the Southeast Aerosol Technical Association (SATA), later earning its Founder's Award in 2005.  After a long tenure with Berry Plastics and other firms as a manufacturer's representative, Joe retired in 2012, leaving a legacy of integrity and relationships.

A serial entrepreneur, Joe created, marketed and sold the first security mail tube products for document shipping for the United States Postal Service, funding his childrens college educations with the proceeds  He launched LOSOREA, an aedrosol recycling service promoting on-site sustainability for manufacturers, and PALEO Collectibles, small gallery-quality dinosaur fossil replicas born from his love of prehistoric wonders.  He also authored  and published Anammesis: The Further Adventures of Struth Digger, a childrens mystery blending small town charm with his storytelling flair.

Joe's love for Gainsville glowed in everything he did.  He was an early pillar of the Kiwanis civic club, Key Club sponsor at Gainsville High School, the founding president of the Lanier Symphony Orchestra, now the Gainsville Symphony Orchestra, and a faithful lay reader, Sunday School teacher and chalice bearer at Grace Episcopal Church, where his steady voice brought comfort to many.  He championed his wife's passion at The Arts Council, earning the "Friend of the Arts" title for 1998-1999 with his generous philanthropic spirit.  In politics, Joe's fervor shone as he managed campaigns and rallied voters for the local Republican National Committee (RNC).  At the Chattahoochee Country Club he chaired the Marina Committee and he enjoyed fellowship with the Alders Gate Sunday School at Gainsville FUMC.  His heart also beat for causes like Tunnel to Towers Foundation, Yellowstone National Park, and Ducks Unlimited, reflecting his deep love for service patriotism, and the wild beauty he so treasured.

But nothing lit up Joe's world like his family.  For nearly 60 years he was Gladys's rock, her partner in every adventure, and her biggest cheerleader.  As a father, he poured his pride and tenderness into his children, guiding them with wisdom and unwavering love.  And as "Poppy" Joe was pure magic to his grandchildren.  Whether reeling in fish on Lake Lanier, carving snowy trails on ski trips, or delighting them with "Poppy Burgers," and rides on Macy's Christmas "Pink Pig," his laughter and big bear hugs created memories that will shine forever.

Joe lived with gusto, savoring every moment of his passions: always chasing the perfect golf swing, the thrill of slicing through powder on skis, the peace of fly fishing out west on father/son trips, the adventure of traveling and cruising around the world, the camaraderie of duck hunting, the ups and downs of being a Falcons fan, the pride of becoming a Master Gardner, and the simple joy of boating.  His pride and joy was his wooden Lyman boat, Finest King, which he restored with a craftsman's care, tracking down original parts nationwide until it gleamed as Lake Lanier's crown jewel - a reflection of the love he put into everything he touched.

Joe was proceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Margaret Wyant; his brother, John Wyant, his sister, Colleen Wyant; and brother-in-law Al Pannell.

Joe leaves behind his adored wife, Gladys, his children, Heather Wyant Heydet (Tommy), of Alpharetta and Jason Wyant (Jennifer) of Marietta, his sister Trudy Simpson (James) of Pocatello, ID, his four precious grandchildren - Jackie Heydet, Elise Heydet, Jackson Wyant, and Jillian Wyant, sister and brother in law Kathryn & Bill Wooten of Carterssville, sister-in-law Judy Pannell of Gainsville and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.  His quick wit, gentle humor, and the warmth of his embrace will linger in every room he ever entered, a gift to all who knew him.  Joe Wyant didn't just live a full life - he lived a beautiful one, and his love will echo through his family and friends forever.

A Celebration of Life will be planned for family and close friends in early summer.

RIP "JODY'

*Joe passed away, the result of numerous strokes

Richard Joseph Trussel, beloved husband, father, grandfather brother and friend passed away peacefully at his home in Pocatello Idaho, on Monday March 10, 2025, following an extended illness.  He was 81 years old.

Richard was born in Montpelier, Idaho, in 1943 and moved to Pocatello in the ninth grade.  It was there that he met his lifelong best friend, Randy Guidinger.  He graduated from Pocatello High School in 1961 and soon began working for Idaho State University installing seats in the Mini Dome (now the ICCU Dome)  While working in maintenance at ISU he took night classes to become a welder.  Over the course of 37 years, he dedicated his career to ISU as a machinist and welder until his retirement in 2008.

In 1959, Richard met the love of his life, Kay Hulet.  After three years of going steady they married in 1962 and spent 62 wonderful years together.  Their love and commitment built a strong and loving family, raising three children: Lisa Allgood (Damon) of Magna, Utah; Jay Trussel (Tonique) of Pocatello, Idaho; and Rikki Trussel of Pocatello, Idaho.  His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Nicholas Trussel of Pocatello, Bryce Allgood (Shital Jumbad) of Salt Lake City, Brooklyn Lowry (Zach) of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Kaylee Proctor of Pocatello, Idaho, Aidan Trussel of Pocatello, Wren Tussel of Pocatello, El Trussel of Pocatello, and Dylan Trussel of Pocatello.  He also considered Gabby Abernathy an honorary granddaughter.  Richard is also survived by his sister Gwen Gilbert of Pocatello, Idaho.

Richard was a man of many talents and passions.  He had an innate ability to fix anything, always willing to lend a hand to friends and family.  A true motorcycle enthusiast he rode Harley-Davidsons his entire life considering a plain Harey t-shirt the height of formal attire.  He was a proud member of the A.B.A.T.E., motorycle club.

Beyond his love for motorcycles, Richard was an exceptional pool player, known as one of the best in Pocatello.  He played on seven different pool teams throughout the years, frequently traveing across the West to compete.  His skills even took him to multiple international tournaments in Las Vegas.  His love for the game led him to collect pool cues and later start a business repairing and re-tipping them.  During his time at ISU, he spent his lunch breaks playing pool at the ISU Game Center, a tradition that lasted throughout his career.

To honor Richard's life, his family invites friends and loved ones to a Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, at the ISU Game Center, 921 S 8th Ave. Pocatello, ID.  Food will be provided and attendees are encouraged to share stories, visit with the family and play a game of pool in Richard's honor.

SHERRIE KAY SEIBERT GOFF OBITUARY

Sherrie Kay Goff, age 81, escaped this mortal realm on March 16, 2005.

Born June 29, 1943 in Pocatello Idaho, she attended Roosevelt Elementary Alameda Junior High and Pocatello High School.  She is predeceased by her parents Wayne Julian Seibert and Hazel June Green Seibert as well as younger brother Randy Lynn Seibert.  Sherrie is survived by her husband Stiofain Gale Goff, her brother Michael Wayne Seibert (Kathy), and her nieces and nephews.

Sherrie continued her education in Santa Monica, California, and worked for several years as a data control analysist and technical writer for a large corporation in Los Angeles.  She met her husband Steve in Santa Monica and they enjoyed several vacation adventures in Mexico and elsewhere.  Sherrie and Steve moved to Jackson Hole after retirement, then closed their gift shop and moved back to Pocatello.

Sherrie loved books and was an avid reader.  For relaxation and enjoyment she nearly aways had some delectable historical novel at chairside or bedside.  Sherrie held a long abiding love for ancient history, especially anything Roman, even wrote five historical novels herself winning several awards for her writing.  All of the wonderful stories to be found in history moved Goff to try writing fiction herself, and her first project was an ambitious set of books subtitled Seven Kings of Rome novels.

Many of you may have known her as a lover of cats, or a political junkie and lifelong Democrat.  Sherrie has finished the final chapter in her book of life.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Corneison Funeral Home, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello, Idaho.  Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.corneilsonfh.com 208-232-0542.

RIP Sherrie
