I never knew Ray very well in high school. I got to know him when he started coming to the class luncheons. We developed a friendship along with his wife Joyce and my wife Toni. He told me he worked for gold mining companies and he and Joyce traveled many places in the world where gold was mined. I asked him if he ever heard of the gold mining shows on Discovery channel. He said yes and he and Joyce watched them faithfully each week. I told him that Toni and I also watched them faithfully and enjoyed them very much. Our mutual enjoyment of the gold shows deepen our friendship and relationship. He and Joyce came to our church services twice at Gate City Christian Church and he really seemed to enjoy it. Our relationship lessened as Ray got so ill that he was unable to attend the luncheons and could not talk on the phone anymore. I spoke with Joyce on the phone several times and offered my help but she said there was nothing I could do and Ray was receiving the medical attention he needed.
I will miss Ray even though our friendship was short it was of a good quality and close. May he rest in peace in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen
