Sorry about Marvin. We played on the Franklin Junior High football team together. The last time I saw him years ago, he was in rough shape after having had a piece of heavy machinery fall on him. I so sorry he has passed.
Marvin John Westergard, 73, of Centralia, Wash., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016, at his home in Centralia, Wash. He was born Feb. 9, 1943, in Pocatello, Idaho, the son of William Westergard and Blanche Wetzel Westergard. Marvin grew up and attended school in Pocatello, Idaho.
In his early years, he was a smoke jumper/firefighter out of McCall, Idaho. He then operated a Richfield service station in Pocatello, when he met and married his wife of 47 years, Kathy Holloway, May 31, 1969. They moved to Chehalis in August 1969, where she had a job teaching and he was a mechanic for LeDuc's Chevron as well as other stations in the area until 1979, when a tire exploded and damaged both his knees. He made a career change and went to work at the Department of Licensing in Olympia, when he retired after 23 years as the manager of the call center for vehicles.
Marvin was an avid sportsman. He liked nothing better than to go fishing or hunting with his children and grandchildren. Marvin and the boys spent many hours fishing the local rivers as well as hunting in the area. As the boys would say, “Some of our best memories are with dad on the river.”
He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; sons, Shane, Darren (Charissa), Troy and Trevor Westergard; daughter, Tami Cooper; grandchildren, Brandon and twins, Carissa and Camille Cooper, Jeff, Justin, Alanna, Isabella and twins, Zahara and Lilly Anna Westergard; one great-granddaughter, Kaedyn Westergard; brother, Lamar Westergard (Ruby); and sister-in-law, Sara Westergard of Boise, Idaho.
You are invited to a celebration of Marv's life at the Chehalis United Methodist Church, Friday, Dec. 9, 2016, at 2 p.m. A luncheon will follow the service.
