Ronald "Earl" Davis

August 4, 1948 - November 3, 2006

Raleigh (News & Observer) - Ronald Earl Davis, 58, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 3, 2006.  He was born to Jesse Benjamin and Mildred Davis on August 4, 1948 and was a life-long resident of Raleigh.

A beloved husband, friend, father, step-father and brother, Earl will be greatly missed.  As one who never met a stranger, he enjoyed telling a good story.  He understood that life was for living and offered a helping hand to many who took the challege to make the most of it.  A frequent supporter of causes for the support and enrichment of youth, he preferred to go about this work silently and behind the scenes. 

Earl will be missed especially by those who shared his enthusiasm for golf, fishing, racquetball, taking chances and Wednesday "meetings" at Raleigh Country Club.  He had been a dedicated member of the North Raleigh Optimist Club since 1983.  Earl understood that living was in the journey, day by day, well lived.  He accepted the challenge to embrace life and it embraced him back.

He is survived by his wife: Tara H. Davis; by his son: Mark Edward Davis, of Raleigh; by his daughters: Charisty Michelle Davis, of Fisco, NC and Kyrie Leigh Pennington, of the home; by his mother: Mildred W. Davis, of Raleigh; by his brother: Harold Davis and wife Joyce, of Winston-Salem; his sisters: Susan Hamlet and husband John and Debra Stanley, all of Raleigh; by his dear friend Jimmy Bridges, of Raleigh; his special cousin Jerry Wilder and wife Wanda, of Myrtle Beach; and several nieces, nephews, other family and numerous friends.

Earl was preceded in death by his father: Ben Davis.

Family will receive friends on Sunday afteroon form 5-7 at Mitchell Funeral Home (7209 Glenwood Avenue)

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 6th at 2 p.m. at the Chruch of the Nativity.  Intermnet will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park, with members of the North Raleigh Optimist Club serving as pallbearers.
