Dorothy Page Montague
January 12, 1948 - February 24, 2025
Dottie died February 24, 2025, at age 77 of Alzheimer's disease. She is survived by her sister Betty Montague Barbour (Glenn) of Raleigh, NC, brother-in-law Richard C. Easingwood, Sr. of Fayetteville, NC, and cousin and best friend Beth Stevens Davis of Garner, NC, 8 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sister Lillian Montague Easingwood (Richard) of Fayetteville, NC, and several nieces and nephews.
Dottie attended Appalachian State University for her Bachelor's Degree and East Carolina University for her Master’s Degree. She began her teaching career in Johnston County Schools (Smithfield), NC, where she worked appropriately 8 years and was awarded the Johnston County Teacher of the Year award during that time.
While living in Smithfield she was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church where she was chair of the Women’s Society of Christian Service, sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. During that time she was formerly married to the late William Arnold Sellers.
Dottie then went to work with the Saudi Arabian-American Oil Company (ARAMCO) in Saudi Arabia for approximately 8 years teaching English speaking students on the compound. While there Dottie traveled the world visiting more than 20 countries. She only returned to the US because it was just before the first Gulf War. Upon her return to Raleigh, NC, she finished out her 38 year teaching career at Fuquay Middle School.
While living in Raleigh Dottie attended Benson Memorial United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and played in the chimes and bells choir. Her Witherspoon rose garden was one of her prized past times, delivering them to friends and family. The last two years of her life she lived at Sunrise of Raleigh.
As a last bit of Dottie trivia, her grandfather Ralph S. Stevens, MD of Smithfield taught medical classes in Raleigh at Shaw University and Saint Augustine’s University in the early 1900’s. Dr. Stevens also delivered film star Ava Gardner on Christmas Eve 1922 in Grabtown, NC, just outside of Smithfield. Also, Dottie’s grandmother Eula Hood Stevens studied music for two years at The Juilliard School in New York City. As you can see, Dottie inherited her love of teaching and music.
Services for Dottie were held on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Benson Memorial United Methodist Church, 4706 Creedmoor Road, Raleigh.
