Left Rapid City in March 78' for Gillette, WY. Major culture shock. Had a hard time dealing with the fact that I wasn't a Cobbler anymore. Still a Cobbler at heart, though.
Graduated from Campbell County High School in 1980. Played some baseball at University of Wyoming. Baseball went well, grades didn't, so I ended up coming home and started life in the real world. I've done a lot of things: worked in a power plant, oilfield, construction (framer), finally ended up becoming an electrician. After about 4 years as an electrician, I joined the family electrical distribution business. Spent 17 years selling electrical parts. Sold the business to Border States Electric, in Nov. '04. Managed to keep my self busy for a couple of years, and then decided I would be better off getting back to what I knew. So I'm back selling electrical parts for another company.
Got married in 1983 to Rena Hughes. She had a daughter named Shanie (5 yrs). In 1986 we had a daughter, Kallie. Shanie just got married, in Jamaica, in April '09. Kallie is scheduled to get married in Feb. '10, somewhere in the Carribean. That's gonna cost me.
I've spent about 17 years coaching baseball and girl's fastpitch. Spent many a summer traveling the tournament circuit every weekend, from Neb., Colo., Mont., SD., and WY. Sounds like a lot of you have done the same, especially some of you guys I grew up playing baseball with at Harney. Last time I coached was in '06, the Legion JV team. We went 33-19, not too bad. I've taken a break from coaching for a while so I could get back into the camping, hunting, and fishing again.
I want to say thanks for letting me join the website. It's been great to see what everyone has been up to over the last 30 yrs.
I would also like to give out a special thanks from my family and I to all the vets in the Class of '79. Your service is appreciated.
A few things that I remember about Central is getting to move into the brand new school. That was a pretty big deal.
I also remember something Coach Lundie said to me right before I left for WY. The mascot in Gillette is a Camel, so he asked me "what do they give out for a letter over there, a hump?" That has always stuck with me.
