Obituary for Charles Forrest Little

Born Nov 3rd, 1949 in San Mateo, CA to Robert LaMarr Little and Charlotte LaVerne Scott.

He grew up in Redwood City and had fond memories of playing Little League and racing quarter midgets with his father. He shared stories of the fun he had with his neighborhood friends.

In 1967 he graduated from Sequoia High School and went on to earn a BA in Geology from San Jose State University.

It was love at first sight when he met Gayle Arterburn and they married in 1973 in Portola Valley. Charlie and Gayle made their residence in San Jose where he was a devoted husband and father.

He enjoyed playing golf and card games with his friends and teaching the games to his daughters.

He worked as a graphic artist for Lockheed Martin for 30 years allowing him to combine his artistic skills with his scientific mind.

He fought a long battle with multiple myeloma which progressed to secondary plasma cell leukemia, yet he remained exceedingly strong, sharp, kind and never lost his sense of humor that everyone enjoyed.

He passed away May 11, 2024 at home with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife Gayle Little, daughter Stephanie Little, daughter Danielle (Forest) Quinlan and grandsons Hunter Quinlan and Ryder Quinlan who will forever remember and miss him.

Although Charles attended Sequoia the same years as I, our "paths" never crossed during those 4-years. I would have loved discussing geology with him. My prayers for healing hearts go out to his family, loved ones, friends and more.

I met Charlie (as well as Jim Macko) in first grade at Henry Ford.  Charlie was the envy of most of us kids as he'd occasionally take his Quarter Midget (that looked like a mini-car version of an Indy 500 car) out on the Henry Ford school site many times ... racing it around the campus as the rest of us would drool with envy.

The 3 of us and a few others (like Steve Dowell and Dick Sharon and anyone else that showed up) would play baseball as often as possible.  Great times.

We all went to Sequoia due to the school boundary restructuring in 1963 but I lost track of him after graduation until our 10th Reunion.  The guy I remembered as a little Charlie Little had become a TALL Charlie Little.  I think he had grown to 6'4" or more.  So his last name had become more than a bit of a misnomer.  It was fun to get what we now call a selfie version of the 3 of us (Charlie, Jim, and me) with my SLR long before SmartPhones and selfies were invented.  Check it out on this site.

What I most remember about Charlie was his big laugh and engaging smile ... and the memory of someone who always was fun to be around, never ever got mad, and always had a positive attitude to go along with that big smile and deep laugh.

He was a great friend for 69 years.  I wish it had lasted longer ....
