Patti Jackson (Weeks)

Hi everyone! Sorry that I haven't talked to you in a while. I check this site every single day, but there didn't seem to be alot to respond to, & I didn't really have anything to say....but now,
Okay, I had this idea for a memorabilia board, which I mentioned earlier, & I have pulled out a bunch of pep rally ribbons, a couple of newspaper articles, buttons, name cards...a bunch of stuff that I can't believe I still have!
Anyway, Steven cut this big piece of heavy-duty cardboard that folds, it's been batted & covered in gold cloth. It's free-standing, because it folds, there are 4 panels, 43x30 each, like a medium bulletin board. Now, I crammed all my stuff on one of the panels, but the rest of you have to fill the other three! That is, if you're interested...I know Ron thought it was a good idea. It really does look cool! And it will look great with everyone's stuff on it! What do you think?

Hi again....I'm soooo excited! I have posted a picture under my profile with my panel of memories, so you can get an idea of what I have in mind....what do you think? Any more ideas?...Bring yearbooks...all your memories! I'm sure there will be a pom-pom or two there! But, we have been thinking about this occasion since the last reunion, & I can't wait to get some feedback! Rah!Rah! Hornets!

Jimmy Grand National !--Have talked to Pat a few times. He is good to go and sent money to Donna with conditions! He said he needs a basketball key laid out so he is in his shooting zone and comfortable. Since he and Doug Willis were the best pure shooters we had, I told him no problem! Then both of those boys can invision themselves draining those 3 pointers!!! Anything else you need from us just let us know!!
With that being done we do have a real problem. It is Ron. I read his message to you and having been in many, many battles and wars with him, it concerns all of us who witnessed him go side line to sideline just to plant his hat on someones ear hole or chest. Lord knows he was a warrior! The teddy bear, marshmellow person writing that stuff must be a phantom of Paw Foot! I will have Steve Mc call a meeting of the old committee to get input from some friends for possible treatment and cures. WIll let you know the decisions to help him!

Patti Jackson (Weeks)

Hey Jack!
Let Ron be a teddy bear if he wants...I'm sure he'll be glad to hurt anyone that wants him to! The "committee", who & whatever that was & is (I knew it existed, but is it like the FreeMasons of RBHS?) However, you should not try to brainwash him back to whatever!

And Ron....you can never lose your mocker...it's there if you choose to use it....it usually takes a bit more of a push than it did 40 yrs ago (because of the mellowing effect) for you to attack! But, when you feel the urge, it will not abandon you! It is there, it is there!

Patti Jackson (Weeks)

Hey Donna,
You wanted me to talk, & I certainly have no problem doing that...never did!
Now, why are we the only two girls (I don't mean that literally), doing this?
Where are the rest of you? I'm not leaving you out, Donna Samples...you're participating!
This is for everyone! Let's have fun with it!

Speaking of that.. we are having a meeting at the PGA Marriott next Thursday May 7th at 6.. we hope to have a boardroom so we can go over some last minute things and make phone calls. We need to get an accurate count of those planning to attend Friday night. We also need to know who is coming Thursday..day/evening so we can plan accordingly. So if you haven't paid.. please e mail me that you are coming and paying at the door. If you plan to attend Thursday..please notify us by e mail.. many already have and thanks...If meetings are not your thing.. that's ok. If you would like to help with anything going on.. please e mail me or call. Bring high school memorbilia anytime on Friday to put on Patti's boards.. go to her profile and see the wonderful stuff she has displayed.. She has 3 more panals for others to decorate. You can take your stuff back after the reunion Fri night. We have most decorations, name tags and registration covered.. We just need more people to attend.. Please don't put off calling your best friend from high school and making sure they are planning to come to one of the reunion activities. I know reunions are not for everyone.. but it would be nice to be remembered even if they don't come. Looking forward to a really fun filled weekend in June.. See you then..

Hey guys - I'm working out the details for my trip down there. I'm planning on leaving Thursday morning and getting there in time for the shindig in Jupiter.

I'm actually going to be in town this weekend since I got word that my dad died and the funeral is Monday. Maybe I could touch base with a couple of you guys in PBG while I'm there? My cell phone is 973-715-0886.

Chip,

Really sorry to hear about your Dad. Death is a part of life as they say in the islands,... and it is so true as we are very blessed with our time here.

Can't make it down this weekend, and I'm sure you ain't driving.... but if you were/are stop in Kissimmee for some country style pork ribs & cold beer.... OK?!

Best wishes Chip to you & family,

Doll

I'm sorry too, Chip..Ron is right..maybe that's why we're wanting to celebrate this reunion...we're physically finite, & can't quite comprehend the end...we're not ready, despite what our bodies & brains are telling us. Energy goes everywhere....so your dad is all around us & will celebrate with us!

Sorry guys,
I didn't mean to get philosophical on you, but it's the John Meehan in me..

Chip,

My deepest sympathy as well. I lost my Dad a couple of years ago and although it was not unexpected it was a sad and difficult time.

Life is finite and there are no promises of tomorrow. When Sue Council passed away I was crushed even though I had not seen her in a couple of years. Then when I saw how many of our classmates were no longer with us I was truly depressed. We don't know what tomorrow holds but we do remember the past and what good and bad times we had together. That's why this reunion will be great. We have endured. Let's all get together, have fun and raise a glass to those we remember.

John,
If only the good die young, I should be around for the 50th...and, I was giving you the best of compliments, because those few times that we met after graduation, our conversations gave me things to think about...& then you made that comment....tsk...tsk! Shame on you!

Thanks to everyone for their notes, posts and phone calls. I had not been close to my dad for several years, but it was still a shock. It was good, however, to be with family. I hardly recognize Florida anymore. I grew up on Prosperity Farms Road and played as a boy in a cow pasture that is now Palm Beach Gardens. I think it's a hoot that the dump where we used to take our garbage every Saturday is now a PGA Golf Course. Fascinating.

It's funny you mentioned Prosperity Farms Road.. I lived at the end near Donald Ross Road.. When my parents past away I wrote in the obituary that they were Pioneers of Prosperity Farms Road.. Grandparents owned the land since the 1920's. I loved living there but it was tough getting anyone to pick me up for a date out in the boondocks. I remember everyone from my bus ride to Howell Watkins, because I was the first one on and last one off. PS- Sorry about your loss..
Looking forward to a Prosperity Farms Reunion in June..

Donna
Prosperity Farms looms large in my memories. I loved your home there and your Mom and Dad and of course Danda. I remember when some guys tried to raid your slumber party and your dad hauled out his shotgun and shot off a tree limb trying to scare them off. To this day I'm surprised you and I never ended up in the pond coming in from a late night out on the town.

I am so lost now when I drive down Prosperity. It has changed so much that I have no idea where your house was.
Thank goodness I will always have the memories of the best cinnamon toast in town, brandied pears and peaches and lots of fun with the crazy, wonderful Day family!!!!

I didn't remember anything being the same ten years ago, so I know I'll freak out again this time! When we moved to PBG, dad used to go frog-gigging in the canals, & we had delicious frog legs for dinner the next day! It's certainly not like that anymore....

Steven & I had a bomshell dropped on us a couple of weeks ago, his dad & wife (Roger & Glenys), who are living in Australia & have never been to the US, are flying over for 6 wks on May 22nd. They'll be coming to the reunion & they're great fun!
I told Steven that if I had met his dad first..well...Glenys is great, too!
Anyway, I need help again if anyone has tips..
LA to Vegas--air tour of Grand Canyon..Denver..Tenn...to reunion...Disneyworld...there's supposed to be a space launch on June 13th (does anyone know anyone that can VIP us)...New Orleans French Quarter...then, AZ! Sounds like a great road trip, doesn't it?
Hopefully, it'll be paid for in time for the next reunion! I'm grateful for any suggestions...This is starting to get stressful, especially since I got summoned to jury duty during all of this! Thanks!

Gail Carroll (Coe)

Patti,
If you are going through Colorado, let me know. I have been there quite a bit and had property there. I have a great route to take on the way from Pagasa to Boulder...it is absolutely stunning! Take care, gail carroll-coe.

05/09/09 03:17 PM #156

Patti Jackson (Weeks)

Thanks Gail,
I think from Vegas, I-15 to I-70, which is quite a bit north. We have friends in Westminster (Denver suburb) who we will visit for a day or two. We lived in Loveland for over a year, & I loved it! The rockies are spectacular to wake up to & look at all day!
The one thing that I have noticed is that the wind blows harder anywhere west of the Mississippi than it does in the east. In AZ, the weather is so great most of the time that all you have to complain about is the wind!

Hey Donna & Jim,
What went on at the meeting? Don't keep us in suspense...what's the skinny?

Happy Mother's Day for all the mothers out there!

William "Chip" Madsen

Patti,
I also remember frog-gigging in the canals. Always went for the Leopard Frogs - best meat. We also cut down young cabbage palms for swamp cabbage or "Heart of the Palm." My mother was a afficianado of Ewell Gibbons' book, "Stalking the Wild Asparagus". You wouldn't believe what we used to eat, from cattail roots, fresh brim filets dunked in a cornmeal batter and deep-fried. We didn't have much money, but we ate well.

Patti Jackson (Weeks)

Chip,
You're mother sounds like someone I would like to eat dinner with...if she can teach me what she knows & lets me help!
I really do want to eat the weeds in my yard, like dandelion leaves, but I'm a bit by bit person & don't know where to start!
I've got recipes for cactus "stuff", & don't know where to begin...I'm an organic wannabe!
Where's the mescal?
